I've heard that one rank of FA equals one rank of survival in terms of skinning. But how about together? In other words, if one were level 50, would 25 ranks of survival and 25 of FA be the same as having 50 ranks of FA (or 50 in survival) when skinning? Also, what are the uses of survival beyond skinning? Thanks.

Yes; foraging, helping against certain "weather" checks, and starting a fire in t3h Pinefar somewhere.

Thanks for the quick answer, Lart.

Lat is always good to figure out those perplexing logical puzzles.

Also, I know that injuries on a creature can affect skin value. Does the location of the wound matter? For example, since kiramon yield mandibles, do wounds to a kiramon's head affect skin value more than back wounds?

I don't think wounds affect the price unless they're from specific places. Neck and head wounds lower mandible value, but I don't think a leg would.

I thought it was as SomeThief suggested. You hit the kiramon in the arm, your mandibles are lower quality.

Hit something that yields a skin, and torso shots reduce the value.....a crest or an eye? Head/neck and eye shots respectively.

Mandibles are jaws though, right?

That would depend on notocord formation.

If they do lower in value, it's not as big a difference as head or neck shots. Just anecdotal evidence from when I hunted them (a couple years ago, but I hunted them from like 30 - 40). With a head or neck wound they'd sell for I think 500 silver, killed by chest/back/torso wounds they'd go for up to 1.6k

What have you found to be the skins worth the most silver?

How many premenstrual women does it take to skrew in a lightbulb?

Myklins can range up pretty high. As can leopards.

Oh, maybe Latrin is right and mandibles are jaws (that makes sense now that I think of it), which is why head/neck shots lower value, Artha.

I hear there is a good spawn rate on Vaalorn Baby skins.

I was under the impression survival could help in some search checks, in place of perception. As far as hidden openings and such.

Furrier sales are what you are speaking of I assume. I know that seekers can get around 4k a pop. So far as market value I'd say ki-lin horns are up there just because they are so god damn rare. And did anyone answer as to the relationship between FA and survival? I am curious about this also. There are also places to make fires in the icemule highlands.

Lart basically said that FA and survival ranks stack: meaning that 10 ranks in each skill equals having 20 ranks in one for skinning purposes. And mandibles are jaws, which is why I thought head wounds would affect them. Same with something having a hide -- torso wounds would lower that. I haven't done any testing, but I figure it would work like that.

As far as I remember, that's how it works. Someone earlier made it sound like any wounds would reduce skin price, however I don't think that's the case.

No, it's location based.

You can still get a magnificent quality if you hit the skin location but it's going to be significantly lower in value than if you didn't.

I once found an 11k antler. I'd say mylks are probably your best best if you've got TONS of ambro leaf, slave healer, or heal yourself.

You don't really need to search them to skin them right? Or does the minor wound come from skinning them as well? I can't remember for the life of me.

From skinning.
