This isnt a complaint. I changed my options to hide avatars, but I thought Id put this out there for discussion.

My workplace is well.. uptight east coast. Here, you couldnt have a swimsuit issue calendar from sports illustrated up in your cube. It would be offensive - you know the drill. It kind of sucks, but thats what it is.

So anyway, has anyone else had to go this route? Ive been scrolling past two particular avatars for a while and Im not mentioning which because I really dont want an argument with the posters - theyre not violating any rule I know of because no nudity is showing. But its definitely too much for my workplace. Now today I ran into a third one and decided I better turn off these things before I catch trouble.

Thoughts?

I think you did the intelligent thing.

Thoughts? You did the right thing for you and otherwise everything should remain the same.

I wouldn't mind selective avatar blocking personally. I'm in the same boat as far as being at work but I don't like to block avatars (so much easier to know who's talking). I just try to scroll so it's off screen.

Oh and it's pretty easy to figure out which avatars you're talking about :D

(and no I'm not looking to get these person's avatars changed, don't need to kiddie it up here)

If you have a strict work enviornment and don't disable all images then your pretty much playing with fire anyway. You never know when someone will pull a Stanley Burrell and spam the boards with 1/2 naked women with needles in their arms.

I wound up having to turn off the avatars because while reading the boards at work and someone walked in when a particular racy one was on my screen and I had to do a lot of back talking to get out of what I was looking at.

I normally like having them on because I like to be able to see who is posting by the avatar being up, but when it's NSFW, I just deal with having to keep them off.

Good idea.

Yeah, I realize it isnt hard to figure out, but I didnt want them to feel called out. Like you, I dont want to kiddie it up or tell them to change.

I had that same thing happen. Luckily it was a friend and he was more excited by it than offended.

You know, good point. I better disable those too. I may actually have to go and cut the sigs out too.

My wife actually gave me shit over nintendo girl.. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU LOOKING AT. hahahhahaha I had to prove to her it was a message board and not a pr0n site.

If I was at work I'd simply turn off avatars/images.. my responsibility.

With stanley unbanned it might be a good idea. You might also see a random word such as CUNT in the signature too. Don't want that to happen now do we.

That's why the option is available, Landrion. It sounds like it's best for you to turn avatars (and, possibly, signatures) off while at work. I don't know if the possibility of selectively blocking avatars/signatures is available for these boards. I don't think it is, but I'll check. :)

Oh, and Stanley is certainly not alone!

Odd, I can't think of another poster who spammed pictures in violation of ToS in multiple threads, like Stanley. I'd say he's pretty much alone on that level of douchebaggery. But I can't see behind the scenes so who knows.

Anyway, it was an example as to why it's a good idea to turn off your images via your web browser if you have a strict work place and frequent message boards.

I dont *think* that curse words are going to get me in trouble. If so Id really better stop fuckin coming here altogether. Which would be a shame, I like the PC and I like cursing.

They got me in trouble.. but it was their poor selective judgement of some cunt rather than just the words themself. Get used to walking on eggshells if you like visiting these boards.

I turn my avatar option off when I"m on the computer in the home office. Otherwise I leave em on.

Edited to add:

Yea, my wife saw Stray's avatar one evening and thought I was looking up kiddie pron. I quickly showed her that I dont bend that way.

I get weird looks for reading the PC at school, but I think it's just because these fucking keeners can't understand not doing work constantly. ;)

Heh, I SHOULD disable them at work, but I don't. I try and speed-read at work because I don't think they'd appreciate me being on forum boards in the FIRST place, regardless of the images.

But yeah, husband DOES give me weird looks and his response was "DAMN" to Stay's avatar. I believe its SHM with the Bush one that says, "STFU or I'll BOMB you" that laughed his ass off on when I showed him.

Personally, I don't mind either way. Its interesting to see what people pick. I'm not complaining but the only thing I've encountered was my 6 year old asking why I was looking at a naked girl being strangled by a Nintendo and why said girl would be playing Nintendo naked. Uh, um. Erm. Hmm.

StrayRogue's avatar was/is redundant.

The sex in that which is SNES has, does and will always exist.

Although I personally appreciated that particular implementation big words of the aforementioned subject.
