From the Official Boards:
I think the storyline leading up to its opening has begun...at least in Plat. Not 100 percent positive, but there are some NPC's looking for a certain fiery gem that legend says is in/under/around a temple on Teras Isle. The NPC's are currently shacked up at the Helm. This was yesterday.

You know, it is tempting to take Evarin there and use the excuse of, "I am looking to gain power for blah blah", but I think that would be turning around and doing a lot of the behavior I dislike in storyline chasing. If it doesn't intimately involve some aspect of your character or happen right on top of you, sometimes you just have to let things go.

Right now in Prime:
[Dragonspine and Krodera]
The street widens into a circular plaza several hundred feet across. Dwarves and giantmen lounge on stone benches by a massive granite fountain in the center. The burbling of the waters, the low mumblings of the dwarves and the booming laughter of the giants somehow blend together into a vibrant harmony. You also see the Envim disk, a small white-collared lemur, a sleek white cat that is sitting, a wild chokecherry, a raffle table with some stuff on it, a wooden table with some stuff on it, a red granite statue, a wrought iron sign and a lava tube.
Also here: Drival, Xanith, Envim, Yarx, Great Lady Sorchia
Obvious paths: north, east, south, west
You stupidly ask, "Whar' new crap?"
Xanith says, "No new crap."

I dislike Teras due to the lack of privacy and the mostly crappy town messaging. The hunting grounds are nice, though.

Pity the ONE FUCKING STORYLINE Aaysia can comfortably get involved in she can't be a part of.
Will wait for it to blow over and go when it's relatively quiet again.
Sometimes I really miss that Isle, but like Icemule and River's Rest I'll go, spend about 20 mins there and think about going home.

Teras isn't a bad place. Of course if you hunt in the eye everything can catch you on fire. Recently though there have been a lot of new faces from the landing. Some of the residents figure that the new faces will suffer painful and horrible deaths and go back to the mainland with their tails between their legs.
The party we had last night was great! Really didn't need those arms and legs. During the last round of Terasian Craps the saving number was 4 and of course Zhelas roles two twos and gets his last limb blown off. Congrats to Abysso who won.
Looking forward to the new hunting ground to open up. Illistrim will probably quiet down for a spell and Zhelas will take a vacation to the nations.

That will be the absolute best part of the new hunting grounds. Empty Old Ta'Faendryl.
Unless of course we get the Thanatoph Bowels procedure where everyone goes to look, realises it's next to utterly impossible and they all come running back to OTF, which would really piss me off.

What's irking me is the people showing up on Teras who are a new face, and sancting the room with the statue FOR NO REASON.
The person running back while on fire can't get put out because of said asshat SANCTING the room.
Cally asked someone the other night why he sancted for no apparent reason. He commented that it's so he didn't have a spell failure.

He was a fellow empath. People had to be dragged from the room so they could get doused with water, because of these people sancting.
What do you consider a new face?
Umm, lol. Just that? A new face. Even citizens who came last night for the citizen-only party were a new face. They don't spend their time on Teras, they spend it elsewhere in the lands. It's people who don't frequent there. There's a lot of new faces hanging out there now, waiting for the new area to open.
If anyone refers to my character as a new face just becouse I haven't been there for more than a year, they're likely to be shot.

If it gets bad, Cally will have to move. I'm sure older empaths will be headed to Teras too, and Cally won't have a chance to heal anyone. She can't even fog to people, and some current resident healers tend to ambush bodies as it is.. cause they CAN fog (when said body is within the town walls, mind you).

Most if not all of the people coming to teras for the new hunting ground has at one point of their GS lives hunted and lived in teras. The only reason they don't stay is that they have nothing else to hunt there. What would be the point of staying in teras? Especially if they have to take the boat to get out everytime they need to do something elsewhere? I left teras when my character was in her 70th train 3 years ago. Was I supposed to wait 3 years of doing nothing there just for the sake of not being branded a new face?
Gothique for example has not been around for ages ( at least I think so ) and she is not a new face. Aaysia and a bunch of other people also. Maybe they are a new face to you but not for alot of people.
This sancting of the statue is an occurrence that has been happening for years. It's not just because of the "New faces" coming in there.

No falling asleep (leaving your character unattended) in a public place.
If you are a young empath, follow the advice of those already established on the isle.
That's funny. Do it our way or it'll be unpleasant!
As I said earlier in the thread, I don't particularly like the place.

I only spent probably 18-20 months on Teras back in GS3. I suppose I'm a new face too. Not that I would go there for this anyway. Funny how folks get possessive of their location.
Same thing happened to me in Riverrest a few years back. I *did* spend my formative years there (probably 3 real years time) when the amulet worked. Yet when I got to the town I was told I wasn't welcome because I wasn't a Riverrester. Funny how those things work.

No falling asleep in a public place.. that's laughable, as most people do this.
Thank goodness for having the Rest and at least getting some sort of private time since there aren't tables.
I don't know fuck-all about the place having only been there a few months. But in that time, I don't recall seeing people sancting the statue. It's not something that's needed to be done, and like I said, is a hinderance when someone comes back on fire and needs to be put out. THAT happens all too often.

You, the player labeled them "new faces". I don't know whether your character did or not.
You were generalizing the people coming there because of one person sancting the statue when it has been happening way before you even decided to hunt there. I asked you what you would consider a new face, and I responded.
You realize not everybody can sanct. So you have the Bards, Clerics, Empaths. Even blaming them is a generalization. Why not blame the person who sancted and not all the "new faces"?
why is everyone getting their panties in a bunch
Just quit with the generalization all together.

That's rather interesting.
What I see in this thread, are people who are saying that since they were there way back when, that they know all about Teras; it's THEIR island. And how dare someone call them out for SANCTing in an area that they haven't been at in a while.
Sure, it may have been kosher for that to happen back then. But for someone to sit there and sanct in an area for their own benefit only (so they don't get a spell failure) is ridiculous. They can move to another room and not hinder clerics and empaths there trying to help others.
There were some there who have been on Teras for a good long time complaining of this. So since I'm new to there, I can't complain?
Umm, right.

I used to share in that exclusive mentality back when I was on River's Rest. However, keeping that type of viewpoint doesn't do anyone any good. Communities need new blood to keep them interesting, and you never know which one of this "fresh faces" are going to actually be worth interacting with.
Yes, you will have an influx of assholes when a bunch of new people come into an area you normally inhabit. All one can do is first attempt ICly, then OOCly to curb the behavior if it is disruptive. Just bitching about the fact they are there does little, IG or out.
Jolena
10-02-2006, 12:26 PM
Actually, my comment had zip to do with sancting or not. As to people claiming its THEIR island, aren't you basically claiming it as yours as well when you make comments about how the 'new faces' are responsible for the sancting? I mean, that's pretty terratorial in my opinion. My comment has to do with this mentality you have that being in a place for x amount of time gives you priviledges that being there less amount of time does not. And, I'm sorry to tell you this, but that's just how you acted in this thread as well as the other regarding Icemule.

If they're on fire from the lava tube just roll them, you don't need to douse for that. If they searched a skayl, then you have to drag them out the room I suppose. The sancting thing I don't really give a damn about  It can be annoying dependant on why it's used.

Le sigh. Yeah, it's gonna get worse.
I can't speak for all the "older empaths" but since I play one of the empaths that had to move due to the fact that I couldn't learn from anything except people with wounds.. I wont be sitting around waiting for people to heal.. the younger empaths are more than welcome to heal as usual. Back in the old days, we didn't "ambush bodies" though if we brought them in it is standard practice that we can heal them if we wish, however if I see a young empath in the room I will normally give them the option of having the honors.
As for us old citizen's being "new faces", that was not by our chosing, we didn't want to leave, we had to because there was nothing left to hunt for so long. We've asked for a long time for them to open something for us to hunt so we wouldn't have to leave our home, and it's just now that it's happening. Believe me, we loved Teras as much as all you NEW people do.

It's hard to take the people who chose character advancement over character "citizenship" too seriously. It'd be one thing if you (in general) came back and at least visited an appreciable amount of time in Teras, but going 3 years (for instance) without coming "home" is a bit of a stretch.

Aaysia always went back from time to time when she was homesick. Before I suspended my account though she only went back for craps (and to tend to her shop) since life in EN was great for her before I stopped playing. She was less homesick because of Jemiquist so she stuck more to where she was happiest.
Teras is always going to be home for Aaysia, whether she's treated as a new face or not from the current influx of people who has grown to love her home as much as she did.

I'm curious though how it would change teras all together. IMO Illistim is still easily accessible than teras. How many capped players are really around these days? I think the influx of people coming to teras is simply because of the event coming up and would soon leave after. We all have different schedules when were online too.

I've never been to Teras as Chica but I'll be going when the new hunting ground opens so I can explore it. I'll generally be ignoring folks who have a problem with new faces, I play to have fun and exploring a new area is fun.
People always get possessive of the place they frequent most, I used to be the same with Icemule. You soon realise though, that attitude gets you no where in the long run. I'm sure there will be all this OMG RETARDS ARE INVADING OUR TOWN JUST TO HUNT, you'd get that regardless of town. However, ignore it and people will get tired. To get semi back on topic, there has been storyline progression in Prime as well. First, a few visitors (Sarise, Klirk, or something) came around supposedly looking for some temple and some gem. Then a fire mage, Mavalgnus, came by and led everyone to a new room where he found the elemental "residue" of said gem. Supposedly, it's the gem from that Teras storyline like 3 years ago where the elementals wanted to take over, but eventually some water drop and flame came to the rescue by working together. Mavalgnus is currently researching the gem and plans to be back soon. He was on briefly last night to drink and just kinda hang out with a few that found him.
The area is supposed to be 92-105, NOT the 130+ hunting grounds that Stay thinks it is. There are like 3 tiers of creatures for a total of 10 new creatures; I think that's what Mestys said anyways. I'd look for it to open before the end of the week, but who am I to make a prediction (I picked Texas over OSU).
As for "new faces" or what-not, who really cares? People want to come hunt some new area; people want to explore, etc. Wah wah wah.

But Hadya hardly ever interacts on Teras. Only thing I seriously dislike is rogues picking in the same room as the empaths and well everyone else. I really don't know what it is about Teras, and River's Rest for that matter, that has this "our" town feeling behind it. Solhaven and Icemule has their "rules" and such, but not like those two.
I remember being practically ostracized when I first went to Teras because I hadn't introduced myself to all the empaths and have them school me with healing before I actually healed anyone.
I remember the deader was at the statue waiting for a heal before the cleric could do anything. The empath that brought her was dead too. The CORPSE asked me to heal them, because of the empathic demise, so I did. Pft. That was the worst day as an empath ever, and would have been worse, had that person not stood up for me.
Rubytears nearly had ME in tears. No town is worth that kind of elitism.

I actually didn't have those problems when I went to Teras but I think the way she acted (Speaking in Guildspeak "Good morning/evening/afternoon everybody"and nodding before healing) were already the accepting method on Teras. Eh, I don't think I'm not sensitive. I think some empaths are too territorial with their patients as though there will never be another one and would rather kill another empath than to admit they can't handle it. And I was always polite as an empath. I nodded, spoke, helped out and never vultured. Ah well.
My empath eventually made Teras her home and bought a house there and everything. I just never understood the "omg you're new" schtick. There is always someone new and no one has ever been the resident guru to have that kind of authority over others.

She just publicly ridiculed and humiliated my empath without knowing the full situation, without knowing who I was to begin. The warrior I healed pulled us aside to make it quiet, but she was hellbent on making my empath life on Teras difficult. Of course, this was 37 years ago now, back in GemStone -LIV, which as we all know didn't hold a candle to Gemstone -LII, but it had its moments. I remember when Aethir implemented combat, that was a fun day until we remembered we didn't have hands implemented yet so we couldn't fight.
As for healing in general, I'm happy to report that TSC (for instance) is predominantly free from sucky healers. Most non-Landing towns are crappy, true, but that's always been the case.

Soulpieced and I sancted a few times. Someone made a stink about it, so relocated to the tower. It's not that big a deal.
With regard to the new faces crap...please. I hunted there before a lot of you started playing. I don't throw that around though, because nobody owns an area. Unless I'm being specifically disruptive, I don't give two shits that you've spent the last ten months on Teras building a character story.
What I found funny was when I rang the gong the first time and Regyy told me (over PSINET) never to do that again or he would light me up. That led to me and a few other people deciding that Regyy is a tool and we would do the exact opposite of what he demanded.

My home is in Ta'Vaalor, I spent quite a bit of time there, but after the Repel Undead changes (to Smite/Bane), I was forced to move across the lake. Ta'Vaalor is still my home even though I never, ever seem to go there...my pelican at my cottage must be wild by now.
But I've experienced the same thing in regards to Teras and RR. I tend to think my priest is relatively well respected, but people in these places (esp RR, IMO) tend to be very suspicious. This is more with unknown characters than anyone else (I had a few people in each place who knew of me, and were willing to give it a go, with my priest), but it's still a "Shun first, possibly accept later" kind of attitude.

Honestly, after the whole 'You don't mess with someone who's been in Icemule for x amount of time' bit in another thread, it doesn't surprise me that Leetahkin seems to have this type of mentality here in the Teras thread either.

Umm, right.
Man, the whole mentality here makes me want to take a char there, and run my sanct script with his group closed. How retarded! I have some chars that sanct where they rest. Why? Because they want to, because they are not going to be a mark to a thief, because they don't know the area, and so they are protecting themselves.
Get Over It!

:yeahthat: Aaysia's territorial about teras yes, but as long as the person doesn't prove to be an asshat she's fine with new people coming to the town. In fact, she welcomes it. Everyone had to be new some time.

Ugh, he shouldn't have told you that over psinet. Aaysia killed Gigantuous for ringing the gong, though. Was thoroughly frustrating for her, but I was laughing my ass off at Gig's antics. I wish I kept the log :(. It took at least 25 minutes of trying to reason with him and giving him reasons why he SHOULDN'T ring the damn thing. She's probably killed like.. 4 people total. Violence against other adventurers is a last resort for her, she only does it when she deems it absolutely necessary.

I've only ever spent about four days in Teras which I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed (especially my repeated stupidity over searching skayls one to many times) and have often thought of going back for a second visit. I'm not very clued up on the town though so what's with the gong, what does it do and why does it warrant death?
Aaysia
10-03-2006, 08:57 AM
The gong is used to warn the town when some threat to teras occurs (i.e. invasion). It's used so that people can gear themselves up and get ready to protect the isle. Ringing the gong for 'fun' is frowned upon since it's a false alarm. One of Gig's excuses that day (and my favorite) was that he couldn't afford a real instrument so he was going to practice and become a gong player. He had others but they were lame compared to that one.

Agreed, I dont mind new people, never did unless they were being stupid, but then even some of the locals did that sometimes lol.
The gong ringing is a bit annoying.. but I think I have a bit more of a laid back feeling towards it. It's supposed to be an alarm, if bored annoying people just ring it for the sake of being annoying, it's irritating, however I dont think I'd ever kill anyone over it lol.

Teras is isolated and folks do get possessive of an area. Some come there to hunt, come back after a year or so absence, and to get away from the Landing and or the Nations. Whatever their reason, it doesn't matter to me but when they start acting like "asshats" yeah that is the gripe. But hell afterwhile everyone fits in....

Because they want to, because they are not going to be a mark to a thief, because they don't know the area, and so they are protecting themselves.Given that there are plenty of other ways to prevent stealing that don't endanger other people, you're being disrespectful of your fellow human beings, which by definition you shouldn't be doing.

Okay I have to ask. Is the healer still on Teras that sits at the statue and carries on with "Would theeest likest meest to healest thee Me Lordliest Lord, kind Sirest?"
And Rubytears wasn't so bad. We used to have the best group of healers on Teras years ago. Everyone got along. It was actually fun to sit and heal. The only one that caused issues was, I want to say her name was Raindropp or something like that. She would ask people at the gate or statue, "Ahem. Who are you and why are you healing at MY gate. Why don't you take your sorry little self and go back to the Landing where you belong?" She went to Plat as soon as it opened up and became the know all of that which gave us a break finally.

I think I know who you mean. Rhaindrop I think it was. Yes, she was just as bad and very territorial. I think it was her that got upset with me the day that Yop (I think that was the warrior's name) started asking me for heals, and he was usually particular about who healed him. Heh. Empaths are funny.

(Having to do with a Teras NPC)
Well, sort of. Myself, Edaarin, Maliku, and Zenogais found him in the bar. We sat and talked (getting drunk, of course) with him for about 45 minutes. I have the entire log but really, he was just being a normal character. Not much information regarding the quest was given up -- he was just hanging out with the 'boys', attempting to be more like me in every way. He got incredibly drunk and started laughing at random things like my robed figure -- which decided to lose its illusion (which he laughed at as well), which landed me up in jail (which he REALLY laughed at). That's about it.
He hasn't been on since, and neither has Sarise, the other NPC.

Basically...
Tonight, Mavalgnus and Sarise got together with us. A former piece of the gem was brought together with the new "residue" that Mavalgnus found last week. The bard Sarise got the two and attempted to divulge information from them via a loresong-ish procedure. To make a long story short, she fucked up and released a shit ton of fire creatures because of the gems' power. HOWEVER... she DID get a vision of a spire or towers from the gems (likely the new hunting area). They're supposed to come back tomorrow night for more shennanigans.

The last two posts are big factors in my decision to not get involved, like with every storyline.
Still good to see these updates though. Cheers Rhett.

Supposedly, it's the gem from that Teras storyline like 3 years ago where the elementals wanted to take over, but eventually some water drop and flame came to the rescue by working together.
Good luck finding that gem...it was destroyed at the end of the storyline. I'm sure a lot of people still have shards of it.
I don't recall the description off hand, but the shards are all scripted to reflect what they are.

Yeah... I know a few that have shards from that. A glimmer of what happened from that storyline is documented on Gothique's website. Look in the library under history and it's under the title 'terror on teras' - http://www.members.cox.net/afallofstardust/index.html
This is the loresong of a shard pasted directly from there
As you weave your melody, the fiery crimson shard's spire begins to pulse rapidly, flashing in a brilliant display of crimson color. You begin to match your song to the fiery flicker, and images begin to flash in your mind, each in synch to the pulsing of the fiery crimson shard in your hand. The tempo and volume of your song rise to a nearly hysterical pitch, then a loud *CRACKING* sound echoes in your mind, and you suddenly find yourself staring into what must be the very core of the world itself. Bubbling streams of magma spread out before you, twisting the air into a nauseating blur. Far off in the distance, the hazy form of a large crystal floats in mid-air, spinning slowly as tendrils of crimson energy burst from its surface to flow into the lava below, which roils and bubbles in response.
Without warning, a stream of crimson lava bursts up from beneath you, as if your eyes were not meant to gaze upon the scene they just witnessed.
Your vision is obscured, and you blink to find yourself once again in familiar surroundings.
Your song's magic wraps around the fiery crimson shard easily, but it seems to be trying to resist your attempts of unraveling the mystery around it. Regardless, your melody continues, matching the flickering luminescence of the shard.
Suddenly your vision is overwhelmed by a bright crimson glow. Just as it borders on the edge of blinding you, it begins to fade, revealing a scene which echoes with the indelible passage of time.
Great fires rage along the land, and the images flicker rapidly into different places and times. Only one thing remains constant - everything is set ablaze. Within the flames, what appear to be elementals writhe and dance within the crackling embrace of the raging infernos, their rasping voices screaming in vicious delight as they consume everything within sight.
The vision fades away, and a voice like hissing embers speaks in your mind, "I am the Fier'dracus, The Flame That Never Dies. Shattered I am for now, child of flesh, but dread the day when I am whole again, for you will burn for what you know."
With that, the voice fades away and you snap back into your surroundings.
You expertly weave the flows of mana around the fiery crimson shard, which begins to flicker in a familiar fashion. As your voice rises to a pitch where you think it might crack, you drop into a whispery melody like the soft hissing of dying embers.
Abruptly a scene unfolds before you of a great battlefield amongst the sea. Fires rage across an island of little more than igneous rock, and waves pound against the blackened wasteland. Creatures of the sea rise up from beneath the waves, and a living inferno of fire elementals and their kin wait for them. The sounds of war pound in your ears, and a cataclysmic battle between the elements rages before you. Suddenly your vision is dominated by the image of the Fier'dracus being tossed into the heart of a volcano by a large, lone lava golem. The hulking giant is soon nothing but a shell of rock as heavy rains pour down on it and extinguish its autonomous life.
The vision ends to the sound of waves crashing triumphantly upon the shore.
You begin to weave your song around the fiery crimson shard, the threads of essence connecting you to it glowing a bright crimson hue as your voice traverses through a range of melodic tones. Soon the hum of power from the fiery crimson shard fills your ears, and your surroundings begin to change as a vision takes over...
The Fier'dracus, whole again, slowly spins in front of you, and the scene pulls back to reveal a dark fiery-robed figure holding it high above its head. Wisps of crimson energy snake forth from the large gem to bathe the figure in power.
Abruptly, your surroundings change to that of a small mining colony upon a tropical island, the peak of a large volcano looming ominously in the distance. You stand amongst a crowd of people, each facing a watery figure that appears to be humanoid in shape. Though no sounds come from their mouths, it appears they're planning something.
You sing your final verse, and the fiery crimson shard surrenders its last memory, completely under the power of your melody.
Your vision shifts to that of an underground chamber filled with lava, the fiery scene dominated by the Fier'dracus, flickering as it hovers above a small ring of land within the middle of the lava. From a far embankment, a group of adventurers are gathered. Streams of magic burst from some of their hands, toward a wall of ice that collapses and forms a landbridge to the hovering gem. Soon after, a tiny wisp of flame rises up underneath the jewel, and appears to meld into it. The crystal pulses once and then goes dim. Immediately after, a large droplet of water flies through the air and completely covers the fiery relic's surface! Intense magical energies rage through the chamber as water and fire clash in a dramatic display, and without warning the Fier'dracus explodes into many fire-shrouded shards!
The vision ends, and the faintest impression of a deep rage rolls across your mind, emanating from the fiery crimson shard's depths.

You recite stupidly:
"Fier'Dracus"
[Golden Helm, Lobby]
The thick stone walls are hung with rich tapestries in velvet and silk. A variety of battle-worn weapons are also displayed, some so old you have never seen their like. An open guest registry book lies on the ornately-carved rosewood front desk, which faces the front doors. You also see a spotted hound that is lying down.
Obvious exits: east, out
Roundtime: 3 sec.
You attempt to blend with the surroundings and feel confident that no one has noticed your doing so.
The spotted hound opens his eyes and glances across the room with his head cocked to the side and one ear slightly raised.
A spotted hound sniffs and peers curiously into the shadows.
You stupidly say, "Fier'Dracus."
[Golden Helm, Long Corridor]
The hallway appears brighter and wider than you expect, due to the high vaulted ceiling. Three heavy wood wheels, heaped with candles of varying heights, are suspended from the ceiling by blackened iron chains. A complete suit of mithril armor stands guard beside the steps. You also see a wood and glaes door, some wooden steps and a curved arch.
Obvious exits: west
Roundtime: 3 sec.
[Ghorsa Isle, Plaza Southeast]
Stone benches flank a white marble fountain, and the pleasant burblings nearly drown out the sounds of the city. A stand of modwir trees is home to a flock of pigeons, cooing softly to one another. On the far eastern shore of the river, you see the bustling commercial center of Kharam-Dzu. You also see a doorman, a ring of figures, a shallow pool, a silk handfasting pavilion, a large moss covered gate and a small ivy-covered cottage.
Obvious paths: north, west, northwest
You recite:
"Fier'Dracus"
You sing horribly off-key:
"Fier'Dracus"
You say, "Fier'Dracus."
You stupidly say, "Fier'Dracus."
You stupidly exclaim, "BEETLE-JUICE, BEETLE-JUICE, BEETLE-JUIC!"

Scholars Seek Ancient Artifact
Researchers in the libraries of Tamzyr have found a link between the Fier'Dracus and a temple believed to have stood on Teras Island.
The Fier'Dracus, a gem of mysterious origin and ability, was supposedly destroyed. According to legend, loresingers handling shards of the gem have heard a voice declare, "I am the Fier'dracus, The Flame That Never Dies. Shattered I am for now, child of flesh, but dread the day when I am whole again, for you will burn for what you know."
Residents of Kharam Dzu have mixed opinions about the search for the Fier'Dracus. Local miners have warned against excavating the side of the already active volcanic slopes. Barkeepers have hailed the new arrivals, noting that research seems to be thirsty work and scholars are good tippers. Local mothers expressed concern that the Fier'Dracus might prove dangerous. They also declared that scholarship and research are not suitable activities for a family oriented community. "There is no telling what kind of questions children might ask once they are exposed to ideas," exclaimed one anxious mother.
Residents and researchers are conducting their debate in the Kharam Dzu Forums.

[Rolaren Street]
This quiet street is lined with tanik trees, their leaves rustling gently in the breeze. An elderly couple sits quietly on a bench, holding hands and smiling. Nattily-dressed dwarves wander in and out of one small shop. You also see a crackling fire and a dark stone gate.
Obvious paths: east, west
The fire sings a searing song of crackling, elemental power unleashed. In accompaniment, a vortex of hot smoke whirls off into the air with a deep-throated whoosh.

.
An intense bright green light explodes over the town of Kharam-Dzu. The light spreads over the sky, flashing slowly as it spreads. After a few moments, the light fades.
.
One of the crackling motes heads right for the Dwarven deputy!
The Dwarven deputy is unable to avoid the flickering mote!
... 265 points of damage!
Hideously bright electrical bolt sends right arm into another universe. Happy traveling.
The Dwarven deputy falls to the ground having breathed his last breath.

A young boy runs in yelling "Over here! I saw the deputy's body over here!"
A couple of tired looking monks hurry in appearing a bit winded. Upon finding the deputy's body, they exchange an odd glance, but the boy sees their resigned expressions and exclaims, "Please, oh please you must try and help this poor deputy!" The monks nod calmly to the boy, carefully pick up the body and carry it away.

Jenovadeath will have to share his 'fun' ;)

[Lunatic Asylum]
A single, flickering lantern provides a gloomy light that dances off the rusty iron cell-doors lining the dark stone walls. The air is warm, and uncomfortably moist in this cramped chamber. A fetid stink of rotting garbage, unwashed bodies and worse assaults you like a slap in the face. Rustlings, babblings, gibberings, groans and the occasional hysterical scream come from inside the darkened cells. You also see a dented iron strongbox, a dusty sign, a large wheel and a trapdoor.
Also here: Zeverai, a stunned Raemine who is sitting, the body of Jenovadeath who is lying down
Obvious exits: none

Here is a synopsis posted on the boards
----
Erkaya (erithian elementalist), Klirn (half-krolvin treasure hunting sailor), Mavalgnus (elven ?), Sarise (human loresinger)
.
Sarise is the leader, of sorts. Sarise came across a tome that mentioned a temple on Teras. Sarise consulted some associates, Mavalgnus and Erkaya being two of them. Klirn was hired as muscle.
.
This group feels that the Fier'dracus gem has information, through loresong, pertaining to the location and history of this temple.
I [Arianiss Winterfox] do not know much about the history of the Fier'dracus gem. It was involved in an attack on Teras a long time ago. It was an attack of a fire being that was eventually beaten back by a water being. The Fier'dracus gem houses some kind of evil fire being of its own. The gem shattered upon the ending of this quest. People involved in the quest were able to get the shards.
.
Sarise exudes the feeling of a hidden agenda. Whether malicious or treasure hunting, I don't know.
.
Malvagnus found an orb in lava that apparently can contain the energy of the shards, with little danger. The invasion the other night was a result of the fire creatures being drawn to the shards/orb.
.
This happened tonight...
Erkaya concentrates intently upon the fiery crimson orb in his hand, causing it to rise into the air on a wisp of viridian energy.
Erkaya continues to carefully scrutinize the fiery crimson orb, as the greenish energy resolves into a cooler hue, giving the sphere a pale blue aura.
The orb begins to rotate lazily in response to the elemental energy, its odd facets casting a strange ruddy glow about the area.
As the crimson orb begins to slow, it descends gently into Erkaya's hand, retaining a shimmering violet haze. Erkaya opens his eyes with a nod.
Erkaya offers Sarise a faceted fiery crimson orb enshrouded by a shimmering violet haze.
Erkaya says, "Elements must be contained by elements. And that is what I've done."
Sarise says, "Erkaya will be monitoring the song, and if anything happens, he'll strengthen the wards. We won't let the destruction of a few nights ago happen again."
Sarise begins to chant in a low register, directing her voice at the orb in her hands.
A thread of flickering gold leaps from the shard in Clintmire's hands to merge with the shimmering haze surrounding the crimson orb.
Sarise's voice slowly rises in pitch, entreating the orb in her hands with sweet melody.
A thread of flickering gold leaps from the shard in Scheree's hands to merge with the shimmering haze surrounding the crimson orb.
Sarise trills sweetly at her orb, her brow furrowed in concentration.
A thread of flickering gold leaps from the shard in Perigourd's hands to merge with the shimmering haze surrounding the crimson orb.
Sarise's voice smooths to a rhythmic contralto as she continues to sing.
An opalescent fog coalesces out of the air above the orb, fed by the threads of light connecting the orb to the crimson shards.
Colors flicker across the fog too quickly for comprehension.
The outline of several slender stone spires solidifies in the fog.
Sarise changes the tone of her wordless song ever so slightly.
The spires flicker from view, replaced by quick glimpses of towering pillars and vaulted stone archways.
Brilliant color blooms in the fog, a myriad of shades riding the sunlight streaming in from stained glass windows and dappling the carved wooden tables and chairs carefully ordered in a smaller stone room.
The images in the fog above the orb bleed into each other, morphing smoothly to show sweeping colonnades flanked by great metal pots and numerous figures of men and women sculpted in stone.
Sarise's song modulates into a minor key, gaining a faintly hollow tone.
A rounded stone shape forms in the fog, alight with a flickering ruddy glow.
Sarise's expression grows slowly blank, only her lips moving.
The fog darkens with a trickle of smoke and the ruddy glow grows brighter.
Scenes of destruction flicker in quick succession through the fog hovering above the orb. Colorful tapestries are consumed by hungry flames while pillars tumble. A vaulted window explodes outwards on the crest of dense billow of smoke and flame.
Sarise flinches.
Sweat springs to life on Sarise's brow, and a faint glimmer of red shows in the violet haze surrounding the orb.
Abruptly, flames lick outward from the orb, consuming the fog above it and flowing outward toward the crimson shards.
Sarise weakly says, "Oh... damn... don't let it..."
Erkaya says, "No... it will hold for a bit more. Soon, though."
Erkaya says, "You will have to cease."
Sarise bites off her last words, but the air continues to hum faintly about her, and flames lick ever closer to the shards.
The tatters of shimmering haze surrounding the crimson orb solidify with a SNAP more felt than heard. The flames extinguish themselves even as the threads of golden light wink out of existence.

Mavalgnus came around early this evening. There was a long discussion which led up to the log below about his motives and past, but I've just cleaned up the part which details his first encounter with the Fier'Dracus in the Southron Wastes. I may try to do the rest later.
Missoni.
[Adventurers' Rest, Bar]
Gleaming mistwood stools are grouped against the long bar. The stools, and even sections of the bar itself, vary in height to accomodate everyone from Giantman to Halfling comfortably. You also see some swinging doors and a sturdy bar with some stuff on it.
You see Mavalgnus the Fire Mage.
He appears to be a Dark Elf.
He appears to be aged and of average height. He has narrowed ashen eyes and dusky skin. He has chin-length, slicked midnight black hair sheened with veins of scarlet. He has a single, ragged bright crimson welt branded across the side of his right temple.
He is in good shape.
He is holding a glass of port wine in his right hand.
He is wearing a gold-threaded deep crimson hood, a golden amulet imbedded with a single hexagonal ruby, a rippled velvet scarlet longcoat swept with fiery golden patterns across the angular lapels, a pair of crossed leather back-sheaths, a series of lustrous golden rings traced with fiery crimson sigils, a pair of hemmed scarlet velvet pants cuffed with pale gold threading, and a pair of shined black leather boots wrought with rippled patterns of eahnor.
Mavalgnus says, "I was... exploring the nexii that peppered the borders of the Wastes. There are fissures that lead down into the earth, where the world is crimson and a breath of air will destroy your body from the inside out in but a heartbeat..."
Mavalgnus says, "In retrospect, I rather liked it."
Mavalgnus looks thoughtful for a moment, then shrugs.
Mavalgnus says, "But that is where I encountered it. It... shaped this world of flame and magma, caused it to shift and flow, I could feel it from afar, and I sought it out, as I knew nothing of what I would eventually find."
Mavalgnus says, "Its influence stretched for miles. I thought that I would be among the first to gaze upon a new Great Elemental. I thought that I would be the first to catalogue it, to study its mysteries and learn its name."
Mavalgnus says, "It was perilous. I should have known, that what I encountered along the way was meant as a warning sign to turn back. The elementals of flame were... not normal. They were enraged at my presence."
Mavalgnus says, "Not the normal offenses which trigger them to chase out those not of their kind from places of elemental power... these were... rabid. Mindless."
Mavalgnus says, "They were raw."
Mavalgnus furrows his brow.
Mavalgnus says, "But I cut a pathway towards my goal, and I found it. I found the gem. It was..."
Mavalgnus says, "Not happy, to say the least."
Mavalgnus says, "But I managed to escape, and I knew that what I had found had been... extremely important to magical research."
Mavalgnus smirks, briefly.
Mavalgnus says, "Extremely important to my 'nation'."
Mavalgnus rolls his eyes.
Mavalgnus removes a glass of port wine from on a sturdy bar.
Mavalgnus takes a drink from his port wine.
Mavalgnus says, "My mother was no stranger to the elemental planes. She, too, was a mage of fire. Far more talented than I was, at that point in time."
Mavalgnus says, "I was so damned young."
Mavalgnus mutters quietly.
Mavalgnus says, "I took her there. Showed her what I had found. We made... plans. I would be hailed as the usher of a new age of elemental research."
Mavalgnus says, "Obviously, we told no one. Power tends to be snatched up quickly in the hierarchy of the Faendryl."
Mavalgnus says, "We worked tirelessly to devise a system of containment. Veil iron melded with krodera shaped in such a way that enchantments could be woven within the cracks of the nullified fields..."
Mavalgnus says, "It was beautiful, really. Absolutely flawless."
Mavalgnus takes a drink from his port wine.
Mavalgnus says, "But nothing is flawless."
Mavalgnus says, "Yes, yes. Judge if you must. But I doubt you've painted such a masterpiece. The most artistic thing you've probably done is puke on a barmaid's apron and say it looked like one of your dwarf-kings."
Mavalgnus mutters quietly.
Mavalgnus says, "Anyway."
Mavalgnus says, "We ventured there, with a small group of my mother's apprentices."
Mavalgnus says, "It was a... struggle."
Mavalgnus says, "Many of them died."
Mavalgnus says, "But in the end, we successfully constructed the field of containment around the gem."
Mavalgnus says, "It was bound to me. I could feel its power. And it was..."
Mavalgnus twitches, briefly.
Mavalgnus says, "Overwhelming."
Mavalgnus says, "The gem screamed and surged against me, but all of its power was deflected by the nullified fields, or funnelled to me in a controlled fashion through the link."
Mavalgnus says, "It was mine. For the briefest of moments, it was mine."
Mavalgnus says, "We had succeeded."
Mavalgnus says, "In the heart of its seat of power, we had succeeded."
Mavalgnus furrows his brow.
Mavalgnus downs his glass of wine in one gulp and again shatters it against the wall, lowering his head down onto the bar and mumbling something to himself.
Mavalgnus says, "Father arrived."
Mavalgnus says, "A statesman to the core. Bound to the demonologists as their protector. His current employer had a penchant for fire magic, and had heard wind of my mother's and my doings."
Mavalgnus says, "It did not help that it was a particularly high-ranking official, either."
Mavalgnus says, "It was at this time that I noticed some of the barriers were beginning to weaken."
Mavalgnus says, "It's hard to describe... the gem was superimposing itself over my own conciousness... I could hear its whispers in the back of my head, but soon enough those whispers were in my voice..."
Mavalgnus says, "And just about when I started to notice that, my father's current employer set his summoned monstrosity upon my mother, amid cries of traitorous activity on our part..."
Mavalgnus removes a glass of port wine from on a sturdy bar.
Mavalgnus takes a drink from his port wine.
Mavalgnus says, "And I watched as my father, always on the side of the Nation..."
Mavalgnus furrows his brow.
Mavalgnus says, "Joined the monstrosity in the slaughter."
Mavalgnus says, "But I found myself engulfed in flame. And it felt wonderful. Absolutely wonderful."
Mavalgnus says, "I watched as my flesh peeled off in layers and my breath turned to ash and my eyes boiled in their sockets."
Mavalgnus says, "And I could feel the bonds weakening, but I didn't care. I wanted to be free. I wanted to be free. And I was. And so was the gem."
Mavalgnus says, "I remember it... I remember it freeing itself, and the whole chamber engulfed in flame, and my father's blood hot on the already charred tips of my fingers..."
Mavalgnus says, "The voice... as my body endured the torturous flames of hells no elf has gazed upon."
Mavalgnus says, "Saying that I had seen what should never have been seen by those not of the flame, that it was the Flame that Never Dies... that I would die here..."
Foxs whispers, "But as said as it is.. its still a story of revenege. Those having known pain can sense great pain in others. And that, this one has."
Mavalgnus takes a drink from his port wine.
Mavalgnus says, "I remember taking my father's sword from his dead hands and propelling myself out with a gust of wind..."
Mavalgnus says, "And then an explosion, an explosion that rocked the world, it seemed..."
Mavalgnus says, "And then darkness."
Mavalgnus says, "It was fortuitous that my mother had taken with her a small gathering of apprentices. As some of them had survived, and they were loyal to her."
Mavalgnus says, "How they were in better shape than I, I do not know."
Mavalgnus says, "But I was under their care for many years."
Mavalgnus takes a drink from his port wine.
Mavalgnus says, "Eventually, I resumed my studies, under the proddings of my mother's past associates. I had already been exiled by the state, as the official mentioned had made his intent known to confront me and her as a traitor, and with him and my immediate family dead, the blame for the incident was placed solely on me."
Mavalgnus says, "Thankfully, he did not know the true extent of what I and my mother had discovered. And did not document it."
Mavalgnus says, "Nor did he live to speak of what he saw."
