I'm stuck in a hypothetical brain teaser.

Hasselback is my QB, and that's not gonna change barring injury. With the return of Smith, I picked up Delhomme from the waiver list. I have Chicago's D.

I'm stuck on who to start this week. Hasselback will be throwing passes all game to 4 receivers which is hard for any team to stop, but it'll be against the Bears. Delhomme is streaky, but he's going against a supposedly weak N.O. secondary and he's got the best WideReceiver in the game (as well as a nice 2nd stringer). I have a bad karma feeling of taking my Defense up against my normal offense.

Point per 50 pass yards, 5 bonus @ 275, 6 per TD. -2 turnovers.

WWYD?

Stay with Hasselbeck, Alexander will be out (unless god tells holmgren to let him play) Morris is an OK back, with good hands he'll get alot of dump offs instead of rushes.

Do you think Hasselback will score enough to keep up though? Unless he gets to 275+ dump off yards and first downs are pretty worthless.

2 TD Passes + 40 passing yards > 275 yards + 0 TDs.

Since I think that I'm awesome, I'll throw in my two cents.

The Saints do not have a weak secondary, at all. In fact, their defense ranks 2nd allowing 4.73 yards per pass. The Saints are 28-22 (.560) in road games since ’00, which is 5th-best in NFL. Then again, Chicago has done well against the pass, as well. Check what my numbers show for what the defenses allow:

(Team - Pass Comp/Att, Pass Yds, Pass TDs, Int)
Bears - 20/30, 184, 0, 0.7
Saints - 20/38, 178, 1.3, 1.0

Interpret that how you will, since only being at Week 4 doesn't provide very much data to play with.

Anyway... Delhomme hasn't had a 300-yard game in twelve games and hasn't thrown one touchdown in 108 attempts. That's not good. Also, in my league, he's had two games with less than 10 Fantasy Points so far this year. That's also not good. In six games against the Saints, he's only thrown five touchdowns. That is poor, as well.

And now for Hasselbeck vs. "Da Bears." Hasselbeck had his second career 5-touchdown game last week. That's good, he's hot right now. In his only game against the bears, he threw for 215 yards and a touchdown. That's not horrible. Hasselbeck has both Engram, who's on track for his 500th catch I think, and D-Jack. They're not horrible at catching balls in the game of pigskin.

The fact that the Bears have 10 sacks and 2 picks on the season doesn't go unnoticed, of course; but, the Saints have 12 sacks and 3 picks. Hasselbeck is better than Delhome, hands down. The Bears have played Green Bay, Detroit, and Minnesota, and held them to a total of 23 points. The Saints defense has allowed 44 points in total to Cleveland, Green Bay, and Atlanta. It's a tough decision, I'm sure. Especially with Alexander out.

I'd start Hasselbeck, pending any big changes to the secondary of Chicago like Ricky Manning assaulting somebody else.

Sorry if it's long, but I'm not short-winded. These are all, of course, just my opinions.

Maybe I'm being short sighted and giving him more 2004 credit than he deserves, and I agree with you 100%, but I still think I have to play the scrub.

The catch 22 is that for every point my Chicago D gets me (and I know it's going to get me points), its going to come at the expense of my quarterback, and vice versa. And Jake has his butt-buddy back, you know they're gonna hook up.

I just picked up that Delhomme bastard so I could play him on Seattle's bye week (also when Carolina goes up against Cleveland lol) and I didn't even think about my QB DEF matchup this week.

Shit.

Edit b/c: I am really looking for someone to overwhelm me with logic to get rid of this gut feeling.

There is no logic in the NFL. Go with your studs plain and simple.

Bottom line is.. in a situation like this you're to pull a "tayre" and play with your stud.

If Sean2 agrees with me it's probably the wrong answer, you'd agree if you saw his team.

Hasselback = 0 points.
Delhomme = 15 points.

I benched my stud (not to mentioned crushed my opponent). Just felt like bragging.

Yeah, I started Hasselback in favor of Steve McNair. Doh.
