Forged from steel and blackened to dull matte finish, the razor sharp blade comes to a needle-like point, perfect for puncturing and gutting. The hilt is wrapped in a soft black leather, molded to allow for exact positioning of the fingers when held. Centered on the blade, the crest of House Nalfein has been etched near the guard. A faint aura of holy light radiates from the knife.

I think gutting is simply just puncturing someone’s lower intestine. Not immediate death but a deadly wound over time as sepsis takes over.

No that would be puncturing....

Gutting would be ripping open someone's guts, kind of like evicerating but not as clean and not going from neck to nuts. When you gut a fish you don't stab it and hope everything comes out that little wound.
