Was going to check on a translucent spidersilk backpacks capacity and realized its on one of the accounts I turned off. So I cant get to it until monday. Can anyone chime in on what they used to weigh and hold, and what they are now if they changed... Whether any new ones were released with different stats.
I could have sworn the old ones weighed 6-8, and held 110-120. And the other color spidersilks weigh around the same, but held less. Like the darks held 90? and the others held 100. I seem to remember translucent being held in higher demand than the others for a higher capacity.
Am being told that they only held 100 lbs though. Somene tell me I am not crazy!
Also, didnt heavy backpacks weigh like 20 lbs back then? Whyd they screw things up and make them all 8 lbs? Seems to me spidersilk isn't worth crap now you get 8 lb backpacks holding 100 lbs for a few coins.
Also inspecting the display backpack in the shop I got 8 lbs. Bard song tells me 9 lbs.. 109 total. Why do the inspect and weigh verbs suck so much?
I recently sold a translucent backpack and have one on my empath. I'll pull some info from it for you. I'll have to wait and get you capacity next time I'm out in OTF and loaded up with boxes though.

Why do the inspect and weigh verbs suck so much? They don't. Every object (over two "pounds") has a certain integer weight. Weigh/inspect will return a value between round(110% * weight) and round(90%*weight). Therefore, weighing an item of 9 "pounds" can result in readings of 8, 9, or 10, with 9 being the most common.
>weigh back
You carefully examine the spidersilk backpack and determine that the weight is about 8 pounds.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
>
weigh back
You carefully examine the spidersilk backpack and determine that the weight is about 6 pounds.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
>You feel at full magical power again.
>
weigh back
You carefully examine the spidersilk backpack and determine that the weight is about 7 pounds.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
>inspect back
You carefully inspect your spidersilk backpack.
You estimate that a translucent spidersilk backpack can store a very large amount with enough space for any number of items.
You determine that you could wear the backpack on your back.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

Except the larger the item capacity, the larger the difference in what it actually weighs. I really dislike the usage of medium amount, large amount etc.. Its even less useful than the weigh verb.
I wish bardsong would tell you the capacity without having to fill it.
Ganalon lemme know when you get the actual lbs on that when full?

Except the larger the item capacity, the larger the difference in what it actually weighs. The absolute difference doesn't matter. If I get a weigh of 45 and a weigh of 55, I've determined the weight of the item exactly (50 pounds). It just makes the process slightly more time-consuming.
It seems to me the clever way to test storage limit is to add as follows:
full plate (75 pounds each) until you can't fit any more.
half plate (50 pounds each) until you can't fit any more.
brig or torso chain (25 pounds each) until you can't fit any more.
light leather (10 pounds each) until you can't fit any more.
javelins (5 pounds each) until you can't fit any more.
Less than 5k total, and you have the weight down to 5 pounds. You could even skip the full/half plate steps and just do kobold genocide.

I normally have enough gear on me to fill a 120 lb container. After that I use wands and then gems to get it completely full. But having to fill it at all is crazy.
>weigh back
You carefully examine the spidersilk backpack and determine that the weight is about 138 pounds.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
>lo in back
In the spidersilk backpack you see a rations kit, a reinforced shield, a falchion, some half plate, a falchion, a falchion and some half plate.

I was wrong. I re-activated my account last monday.. forgot all about the backpack.
I tested mine today. It weighs 7 lbs empth, and holds 125 lbs, being 132 lbs full.
I will assume this is a base spidersilk backpack, and has not been lightened or deepened. I would appreciate anyone letting me know if they find a translucent spidersilk backpack that holds less.

Heh. I remember when spidersilk backpacks would go for a mil, and a mil was ALOT of money.
I think I sold a translucent one in my shop for like 650k. Its been a few months though, so I could be wrong.

I dont recall ever paying more then 300-500k back in the first period I played.. 2000-2002 or so.
I've got one left, and its definately not selling considering its part of my OTF farming package.
