Who's planning on getting one?
I know I am. This system looks like it will be a blast with the unique controller and new approach to playing games. If you'd asked me a year ago, I probably would have said it seemed a bit gimmicky, but after finally succumbing and buying a Nintendo DS, I really think Nintendo has their head in the game when it comes to innovation and something that's actually new. The PS3 and Xbox 360 is just the same typical evolution of more graphics and more space. The Wii is in a class of its own, I think. I've always felt that games were always about how fun the game was... I couldn't care less about graphics (or, at least, not after 5 minutes of playing a pretty game.)
They just announced the price point and release date. November 19th for $250, and it comes with a controller (possibly two, unconfirmed, extra controllers will cost only $20) and the packin title Wii Sports. This means the Wii costs exactly half of what the barebones PS3 will cost; almost 1/3'rd of what the full package PS3 costs.
The other consideration is that Sony is only going to be able to ship 400,000 systems to North America for launch, which means Ebay's gonna be packed with them. The Wii will have 4 million units by years end.
A good place to get info on all the Wii games is http://wii.ign.com. They've been posting a lot of good gameplay movies recently. I believe that most people will end up buying an Xbox 360 and a Wii for the price of one PS3. I know that's what my plan is, once I can scrounge up the cash.
I've already requested one for Christmas. My girlfriend better comply, or else.
The controller really is innovative and I must admit it's one of the factors that motivates me to check out this system, plus the new brand of technologically enchanced Super Mario games.
I'm definitely getting one.

It's Nintendo's next-gen system. But instead of the typical console controller, it uses a controller that looks like a television remote control. Point at something with the remote, and it'll point at that in the game. So, for first-person shooters, point at something and shoot. It also can tell how you're moving the remote. So, if you're playing a golf game or a football game, you can make a swinging/passing motion with the controller, and the game will know how hard to throw the pass. If you're playing a game with swords (lightstabers), swing the remote a certain way, and you'll swing a lightsaber in the game the same way.
Some really really cool stuff.
And the console also works with a standard controller (what Nintendo calls "classic" controller.) D-Pad, analog stick, buttons, and so on. And I believe all Gamecube controllers are compatible with the system. So it's not like developers can't make games for the system that doesn't use the remote at all.
Plus, the console also comes with free online service (wireless), and something called the virtual console, where you can download a slew of classic games (Mario, Zelda, Duck Hunt, Metroid, Sonic, Bonk, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, and so on and so forth) for what Nintendo says will be $5 to $10 per game. It'll also have a built in Opera web browser.

Even Scott wants one and that's a very, very good thing.

Nintendo has always been the most fun system. It might not have the best graphics or whatever, but the games are the best. Not too many of my friends got GameCubes, but the cube was always a hit at parties (There is no party like a mario party... and you can play it as a drinking game too!)
My roommate at college's girlfriend still hates "Windwaker" because every time she would come into the room, one of us were playing it, and she couldn't watch tv.
I expect Wii to have just as much innovation and fun games. And the new Zelda:Twilight Princess looks absolutely amazing, worth the cost of the console itself. http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732877p1.html

Preorders opened up today at GameStop and EBGames retail stores.
Call me a geek or a nerd, but I woke up at 7 AM to go wait in front of the store until it opened at 10. I'm glad I did, because when I got there, there were already 8 people waiting on line, and the store only ended up having a scheduled shipment of 12 Wii's.
Also preordered Zelda, Red Steel, and ExiteTruck.
Looking forward to 11/19.

I'm under the impression Wii will not be under the tight shipping constraits as the PS3 or the XBox360 (was). Nintendo forsee'd shipping 4 million units this year, whereas the PS3 is predicting 400k units (in the US) this year (down from the original 2mil prediction), due to blu-ray and cell shortages.

I tend to believe so. Nintendo won't risk the Xbox fiasco where the systems didn't start appearing on store shelves regularly until the March following it's release. I think Nintendo's planned shipments are larger and spaced closer together than PS3 as well.
Working against you is the fact that the buzz on this system has been great, as well as it's lower cost.
This opinion is based on a purely scientific hunch.

Having a blast with this thing. If you're thinking of buying one, I highly recommend it.
I know a lot of people thought it was going to end up gimmicky, but that's what they thought about the DS as well, and look at how that's turned out. The Wii remote just works; once you start playing it, everything sort of clicks.
Zelda controls amazingly, and is a jaw dropping game so far, and I'm only up to the first dungeon. Rayman is extremely bizarre, but incredibly fun. Red Steel took me about an hour to get used to, but once I did, I was popping off head shots left and right. I haven't delved into Excite Truck too deeply, but the control on that seemed a bit loose. Wii Sports is basically just a tech demo... not much in the way of deep gameplay, but I'm sure it would make an excellent party game. Bowling is my favorite so far.
But, in all, I'm digging this console. The graphics are decent. Not 360 and PS3 quality, sure. I'd say it's between Xbox and Xbox 360 quality. But I've never been too concerned about graphics, as long as the game was fun.

Anyone have some game reviews since you've gotten your Wii?
Weighing the cost vs the games vs the specs I may go XBox now.
I was a long time Nintendo fan until the Cube. I switched over to PS2 for all the reasons listed above.
Of course, I’m still catching up on PS2 games at the moment before I make an actual purchase... but right now XBox seems to have it more in gear than the others.

I got a Wii, and I must say Wii Sports/tennis/bowling are the most incredible games there are, for a console that is (nothing comes close to WoW).
I am going to have to hold out on making the claim that a Wii is the best of the next-gen systems until a wide range of games are available for it. As it is, except for Zelda and Wii Sports, all the other games are standard or on the weak side.
But this will all change soon with the release of Mario Kart/Galaxies and many other titles being released in the near future.

I'm not much for reviews, but briefly.
Zelda is Zelda. Outstanding all around.
Red Steel is a little wonky. It takes a good while to get used to the controls, and even then it can be difficult to control. It's mostly turning that's the problem, but the level and enemy design is such that you don't really need to do a whole lot of turning. In any case, when it comes to first person shooters on the Wii, I don't think the control setup for Red Steel is ideal. Aside from that, the game's pretty fun.
Excite Truck is an excellent arcade racer. It also takes a while to get used to the controls, since the steering is very sensitive, but once you've got it, you can turn a lot more accurately than you'd be able to do with an analog stick.
Wii Sports and Rayman are essentially party games and gateway games. They show off what's possible with the controller, and it's easy to get into. Great games to show to someone who's never played video games before.
As for the XBox 360, I've been considering picking one up, but there's literally zero good games out for it, except for maybe Gears of War and Dead Rising, and that's with a full year head start over the other systems. I kind of expected that they'd have more killer apps out by now, but they don't. And Halo 3 won't be a system seller for me, as the Halo series is absurdly overrated.

For the Wii Sports games, he wouldn't have much thumb trouble, since the game doesn't really use the A button. If he has bad arthritis in his wrist, elbow, or shoulder, though, then he may have problems. Compared to other systems, though, the Wii would probably be the easiest for him to play with minimal pain. Not much in the way of button mashing.
As for CoD, I dunno, I didn't pick it up, but it's apparently slightly better control-wise than Red Steel. The problem with the shooters on the Wii is that the way you turn is by moving the controller (and your aiming reticle) to the outside edges of the screen. This means your gun is also going in that direction. I still don't know why they don't make Wii FPS like PC FPS, where the aiming reticule is fixed in the center of the screen.

Still salty over the meijers thing.
Refused to give it to my buddy who was at meijers as I was driving there, so they (meijer's employee) could sell it to their own buddy who showed up 2 minutes before I did.
I found out the Circuit City my roomie works at is selling some more on Sunday, so I told him to hide one for me. I've already decided on getting Zelda. I was wondering what other games got good reviews? I kinda wanted to get Red Steel, but I've heard mixed things about it. If you like sports games, you can't really go wrong with Madden. The Wii version supposedly trounces the PS3 and 360 version, even without online play and inferior graphics, because of the control scheme. On the other hand, you might want to wait for Madden 08, as that'll definitely have online play, and the controls would probably be even further refined.
I'd say give Red Steel a rent to see how you like it. It does take a while to get used to the controls, and they definitely could have been done better, but I enjoy the game. Rayman is mindless fun, easily beatable, but it's a party game. ExciteTruck is also mindless fun.
I was thinking of picking up Trauma Center, but I already have that for the DS, and it's essentially the same game, just with a different control scheme. Elebits looks interesting. Wario Ware also looks like it'll be pretty good. Dragon Ball Z is getting surprisingly good reviews, believe it or not. I might pick that up when it hits the $20 bin, but if you're a fan of the series, you might wanna give it a shot.

Sony sidelines PS3 mastermind Kutaragi
Analysts said that Mr Hirai’s promotion to a global role at SCE could mark a critical shift in management thinking, with Sony changing its emphasis so that the current generation of games console will be its last as a hardware manufacturer.
“The appointment of Hirai could be the start of a shift from hardware to software,” said Yuta Sakurai, an analyst at Nomura. “I cannot now imagine a PlayStation4.”
Mr Sakurai said that Mr Hirai’s new global portfolio puts a predominantly software-focused manager in charge of the company, adding that SCE’s future would be shaped by Mr Hirai’s relationship with Phil Harrison, the president of SCE’s worldwide studios.
Analysts argue that while Mr Kutaragi, a brilliant engineer, was the right man to run SCE as a hardware powerhouse, Sony may now see better opportunities as a pure maker of games.
I dunno...I have a hard time believing Sony will leave the field of hardware development to it's competitors any time soon. I'd hate to see this happen though only because, while the Wii system is interesting, I do like to plop myself in an armchair at the end of a long day and pop in a game that requires minimal movement on my part. I don't want to stand in the middle of my living room waving my controller around like I am swatting flies.

I think as more games are developed for the Wii, you'll likely be seeing less of this. For instance, with the new Zelda game, you don't need to be standing up and waving your arm around. I play it sitting on a couch with my arms to either side of me. To attack I just flick my wrist, and for parts where I need to aim at the screen (shooting a bow and arrow, for example), that's easy enough. It's actually more comfortable than a standard gamepad.

Just beat Zelda.
Incredible game with a lot of really neat dungeons. The only bad thing is that the game as a whole was a bit too easy. A lot of the puzzles were way too obvious; I only got stumped twice. Using the Wiimote makes some things too easy, like shooting a bow or using the clawshot. The bosses, while very fun, were a bit too easy, as well.
Other than that, though, the game is pretty epic. Maybe not as deep as Ocarina of Time, but still a lot of fun.

Twilight Princess isn't really geared towards small kids, as there's definitely some dark, twisted scenes in there. Well, I inherited the Wii yesterday. My exhusband purchased it to go with his huge, fancy new tv for when the kids visit him. There was an unfortunate slip of hand which managed to send the controller bouncing which led to destruction of the tv and the glass topped table next to it.
So, of course, I've been playing it for a ridiculous amount of time now. Zelda is addictive although it seems easier than some of the past ones. I think the novelty of the controller style sort of overrides some of the game quality - not that they are bad, just you don't notice issues as much because its Wii and you have one YES. There is much better control than I had expected and I keep thinking about how fun this or that would have been with this controller.
If you have kids, its very kid-friendly. I would make sure the play area is clear if kids or drunks are playing, just because with the whole video game coma going they are so focused on what they are doing that they don't necessarily notice what's going on around them.

Nintendo Wii will be getting a Final Fantasy exclusive. (http://randomnewz.blogspot.com/2006/12/nintendo-wii-will-be-getting-final.html)
Recently Square-Enix has announced the latest installment of Dragon Quest on the DS and it seems like they are giving Nintendo a tremendous amount of support contrary to last gen. But there is even a bigger game that Square will be releasing on Nintendo's home console the Wii, Final Fantasy. From a Square rep. we have recieved a tip that a Final Fantasy is being developed as I type this out. It won't be a sequal to the latest FF's but rather it will be similar to the DS's FF3 and can be said to be a port/remake. This is great news to all Wii owners!

They plan to release a new episode of the cult favorite "Leisure Suit Larry" that will use the Wii controller's unique features to create a compelling new use of the device.
Larry has been featured in multiple episodes of the game as a forty-something, balding man trying to seduce young and attractive women. While the popularity of the franchise has varied over the years the graphics have always improved. The game definitely earns its "M" rating.
In the new release, "Leisure Suit Larry: Upstanding Citizen," the Wiimote will be placed into a strap-on harness for a whole new angle on the game. Now you won't only have to get the women to agree to a little bump-and-tickle, you will also have to please them enough that they don't lose interest.
With the Wiimote strapped firmly on your hips, you must thrust and gyrate in a "pleasing" manner. For the sexually inept, your conquest just may fail and she will fall asleep, turn the TV on or just get up and leave. Those that you satisfy will earn you libido points and help you as you go along. But enough bad reviews and the girls will be laughing and pointing at you as you walk by.
Beta testers for the new release have had nothing but positive reviews so far. "Other than my mom wondering why the sofa cushions are such a mess, there is no downside to this game," said one enthusiastic player.
Another said, "No wonder I can't keep a girlfriend. I had no idea that was how it was supposed to work."
One thing is certain; this is just the beginning to new creative uses for the Wii and its controllers.

If you read some of the older "articles" on that site you'd be pretty certain it wasn't real. I can see one day that this kind of game would be common though. Then this guy will be hailed as the HG Wells of his time. You watch.

Nintendo just released a free Opera-based web browser for the Wii. It'ms technically in beta, and it's a bit unwieldy in a few places, but it works well enough. In fact, this entire post was written from my Wii.

Got a bunch of Best Buy gift cards for the holidays, so I picked up Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2, Elebits, and Trauma Center.
Trauma Center is better than I thought, considering I've already played it on the DS. The controls on the Wii are much better, simply for the new way tools are selected as well as the increased accuracy. The story chapters (where anime-inspired characters simply swap text back and forth) are snooze-worthy, though.
DBZ is a whole lot of fun. It takes a while to get used to the controls, but once you get the hang of it, they're far superior to the regular gamepad. Whereas pulling off a super-move (such as a kamehameha) on a gamepad might require a few button presses, with the Wii controllers I just press B+Z, pull the remote back, and thrust it forward. Really intuitive. The graphics also have a really nice cel-shaded look to make it appear very similar to the show, and there's a crapload of characters to select from. It basically goes through every single story/movie of DBZ and GT.
Elebits I'm still undecided on. It's kind of a slow-paced first person shooter where you use a gravity gun to zap up all these tiny electric creatures. As you zap more up, the gun gets more powerful, and you can interact with pretty much anything. You can move around tables and desks and radios and pots, and as the gun gets more powerful, cars and whole houses. The problem is that the little creatures are sometimes hard to see, and once you start moving a bunch of things around, it can become difficult moving around in the debris. The time limit each level has can get annoying, too.

Well, the whole point of the levels in Elebits is to collect a certain amount of electricity. Doing certain things will release a whole bunch of critters, such as putting a DVD in a player, turning on a light, putting a pot in the coffee maker, and so on. The trick is to get all that done before the time's up. It's a whole lot like Katamari Damacy, where you had to roll up a certain amount of stuff before the time ran out. The more stuff you rolled up, the larger it got, and the bigger stuff you could grab.
It's also possible to unlock something called Eternal Mode for each level, which lets you take your time.

Picked up Metroid Prime 3 today. The control is amazing, much better than the first few Wii FPS outings (Red Steel, Far Cry, Call of Duty). It makes a dual-analog controller feel like an antique when it comes to an FPS. It takes a while to get used to the control, but once I did, I think I ended up being more accurate than I would with a mouse and keyboard. The only area it lacks is in quick turns.
The graphics are also really impressive considering how underpowered the hardware is.

There's also a new game out for Wii that's getting great reviews called Zack & Wiki. Apparently it's got very cartoony graphics and seems to be a kiddy game, but it looks like a modern version of a point-and-click adventure game (ala Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, etc.) Except whenever you use a tool, you have to move the Wiimote in a specific way. Haven't gotten it yet, but I'll probably buy it once people start selling used copies.

RE4 is by far the best Wii game so far. I've picked up a handful, and haven't really been satisified with the system at all. Mario Party 8 is fun, but not by yourself at all.

Fire Emblem is a nice fun stradegy game that is nice and difficult.
So I picked this up... It was the only game Toys'R'Us had, and they do allow you to trade in unopened copies for equal value games... so I actually picked up three copies of this (I wanted to get Mario galaxy, Zelda & Lego SW... lego sw was on the GFs christmas list)
Anyway I decided not to wait and just opened one of the copies of fire emblem, haven't gotten very far: I only played for about two hours, but I have a few comments on it already.
It's not very forgiving... I went with the medium difficulty (highest unlocked setting) because I didn't think it would be challenging... but I've noticed I'll spend some turns doing my best to keep fragile characters out of combat, this is likely a strategy thing, but it's very difficult to ignore my instincts to attack someone, assuming they'll attack me back instead of walking all the way around, through the bottleneck I opened by moving forward to attack and they one-shot a weak character. Guess this is something I'll need to learn.
I dislike how I'm effectively always on a battlefield, I can't adjust equipment or items after battles... like I intentionally postponed winning so I could move my characters together to trade items to be ready for the next fight. So far it's very linear, and the cut scene storyline seems very trite... so far it lacks any substance, it feels like I'm watching any given anime show's story formula. cookie cutter "special girl", cookie cutter "unfathomably evil badguy", cookie cutter "badass hero" etc.
Again, it's early, and I really like the strategy and the fights, but something tells me I might just end up ignoring the story and skipping through it. I can't yet tell if I'm disappointed in the fact it doesn't use any of the Wiimote abilities, that I might as well use a regular D-Pad controller.

Mario galaxy, once you get past the kiddiness of it is a great game. Challenging as you get into the higher missions, and a lot of fun. I remember playing Fire Emblem, and the characters once dead cannot come back. I think this was the GC version. I was about three fight from the end boss, at the very end of an hour long battle, and some flying motherfucker went over EVERYTHING to kill a character I had at the ass end of the board.
I calmly got the game out of my machine, hucked it across the room, placed it snugly back into its case, and returned it.

Yea, jut like the older Fire Elblems, it is not forgiving at all. It makes for a tough game when it comes to defending the weak and keeping the trong on the field. Once you get done with the earlier chapters, you'll be fine with picking and choosing who goe and who stays.
And it was meant to be a Gamecube game, just made for the Wii. They just didn't wanna make a brand new GC game with the Wii out and make the same mistake people were doing with the N64.

Burnout is pretty fun, but it sucks not having nearly as good a crash mode as the others (the mode where you just explode and bounce down the street is stupid...) and I've found the openness of the game to actually be a drawback (find one really good spot for points and all of the "stunt" challenges are just races to that point).
Other than that I have no desire to have a 360 based on games (Halo was fun, but I like to play that with friends, and my neighborfriend has it so...) I just really wish the PS3 or Wii had such an open SDK to program for.

Lots of Brawl pictures, lots of spoilers, pretty much reveals the whole roster, although there's apparently one more hidden character. I modded my Wii, so I'll be playing the Japanese version in a few days. Also the opening movie in that YouTube link.
And the crappy games coming out for the Wii are just companies trying to cash in on its popularity. The system's only been out for slightly more than a year -- good games take longer than that to make.
The PS2 had nothing but shitty games for a really long time. The PS3 has hardly any games worth mentioning at all.

Lego star wars has been my favorite Wii game so far... and it's hardly Wii specific. Surfs Up, whilst incredibly kiddy game was a shitton of fun for a weekend (snowy weekend, spent the majority w/ my girlfriend unlocking everything in it).
No more heroes is out now and is next on my list... it looks good
Lego Batman, and Lego Indiana Jones are both in the works right now! I have no clue on which systems they are planning on releasing them on though.

Considering the success of Lego Star Wars, probably all the consoles.
And seriously, you should all download the Smash soundtrack.

It only bricks the console if you install an update from a game that's for a region different from your Wii. So, if I install an update from a Japanese game on my US Wii, it could potentially break it. And most of the updates on imported games won't even brick it. For example, the update that comes with Japanese Smash only adds a duplicate news and weather channel (in Japanese). Everything else remains the same.
And if you should come across a game that wants to force an update, you can use a program called BrickBlocker to remove it. And if you need to change the region of the game to your Wii's, there's a program called RegionFrii.
But yeah, very real risk of breaking the Wii by installing a modchip and aren't careful afterwards with imports and iso's.

I've been playing the Japanese version of Brawl the past few days. Excellent game. The new characters are well balanced, though there's still a few clones (Ganandorf, Falco, Wolf,) but they're at least more different than the clones in the previous games. The single player mode is all right, not great, but at least it's something. Took me about 6 hours to finish it, and most characters are unlocked through there.
Not a big fan of the new stages, way too many hazards. The stage builder fixes that, so you can recreate old stages (I've already done the castle from the N64 version), or make your own simple stages. The music is also excellent.

Brawl comes out on Monday, just in case anyone's wanting to grab it. Definitely a must-buy if you have a Wii. I can answer anything about the characters or the game in general if you want to know anything about it.

It's actually going to be available at retail tomorrow (Sunday). Best game that has ever or will ever come out on Wii.
If you don't pick this game up, you are a fool.

Haven't managed to get an internet game in yet.. but I'm amazed how much content there is in the game. There are SO many modes. And an awesome side scrolling adventure game "Subspace emissary"; where it's kind of like a streets of rage video game, and as you go you collect "stickers" which have different properties that let you up certain attributes, and you can only fit so many on your character (larger stickers are more powerful, different abilities like +10 arm damage, +7 slash resistance, 'always have power sword'). It's a very cool mode, takes about 10 hours leisurely, and then you can go back and try to 100% it.

You're not alone, SP. The Wii has by far the worst connection in my house. Half the time I have to re-enter my SSID throught the Wii menu. It was worse when I had the Linksys, but since the switch to the NETGEAR, I don't have as much issues.

I need reasons to buy a Wii, as I'm not a fan of the childish looking sports games, nor Super Smash Brothers. Anyone have any ideas? I generally like RPGs, be they strategyish, or hack and slash ala Fable. Sports games that don't look like Charles Schultz did the animations are a bonus.

Honestly, you won't really like a whole lot then. All the NextGen systems are a big disappointment for titles. If you like FPS, Xbox is the way to go. No system has any RPGs worth mentioning. Fire Emblem for the Wii is alright, nice and tough. But has no "Wii" features.

If anyone wants to buy fire emblem cheap, I've got an unopened copy that I just haven't gotten around to ebaying... I bought three when Toys'R'Us had the "buy two regular price, get one free" sale, and they told me I could just exchange them for other $50 games later... of course I waited till after the 90 days so I only got around to exchanging one of them (lego star wars kicks ass!)
The one I did open I wasn't that impressed with though... just didn't have time to get far enough into it.
I'm loving Brawl, Metroid was the shit, Mario Galaxies is a great revision of the N64 mario, Lego Starwars is badass... still haven't picked up zelda or no more heroes, but they're on my list.

Okami on the Wii comes out on Tuesday. If you've never played it for PS2, I highly highly recommend it. One of the best games of the previous generation.
I've been playing Mario Kart Wii the past few days. It's good, not too much different from the previous games. There's motorcycles in this one, which handle a lot better than the karts, but the mini-boosts are smaller. The rubber band AI is back, though, so if you're way out in front, expect to get hit by like, 5 blue shells in a row and end up in last. All the characters share the same karts and bikes, though, which kind of sucks.

Wii Fit tells 10-year-old she's fat The Daily Mail is condemning video games again--and this time it's Nintendo that bears the brunt of its vocal indignation. Although the Wii and DS have been generally insulated from the usual haranguing of videogames traditional in such sections of the British press for their popularity among the elderly, women, and on cruises, family friendly Wii Fit has managed to incur the wrath of the tabloid.
The reason is that an unnamed 10-year-old girl from South East England was told by the game, during its Body Mass Index test, that she was "fat." (Wii Fit actually puts users into a variety of categories, the two heaviest of which are "overweight" and "obese.")
The stepfather of the girl, who didn't want to be named for her sake, said, "She is a perfectly healthy, 4ft 9in tall 10-year-old who swims, dances, and weighs only six stone. She is solidly built but not fat. She was devastated to be called fat and we had to work hard to convince her she isn't."
The paper then enlisted the opinion of Tam Fry, a spokesperson for the National Obesity Forum, who called for a ban on kids playing the game, presumably meaning she wanted to see it brandishing an 18 age gate sticker. She said, "I am absolutely aghast that children are being told they are fat…A child's BMI can change every month and it is perfectly possible for a child to be stocky, yet still very fit. I would be very concerned if children were using this game and I believe it should carry a warning for parents."
However, Nintendo declined to entertain her suggestion, simply saying, "Wii Fit is still capable of measuring the BMI for people aged between two and 20 but the resulting figures may not be entirely accurate for younger age groups due to varying levels of development."
I almost posted this in the obesity = global warming thread.

....Thought I was the only one. Aside from OLD PS2 ports with crappy graphics that are being pushed at 40 bucks a pop and Nintendo's traditional Mario games this thing really doesn't have much to offer IMO. Hopefully the wiiware or whatever will offer something interesting.

My Mom likes the Wii she got for Mother's Day.
I think that's the thing with the Wii. Nintendo is really targeting the casual gamer audience. Almost all of the Wii games I'm interested in are cross platform, so the decision for me is between 360 and PS3 and I'm probably going with the PS3.

The Wii is most definatly for casual gaming. I love mine, it's perfect for what I use it for (parties, quick games, games my girlfriend /sister /mother /little cousins can play). I prefer my "hardcore" games on the computer. But damnit once GT5 comes out I'll fold and get a PS3 (bluray being a nice bonus... if you're thinking of getting a 360, wait, the bluray 360s are on the horizon).
I got one for my wife for Mother's Day. The only game we have that we can play over wifi is MarioKart (which is rather fun, I must say). I've already been informed by her that I'm getting Smash Bros. for Father's Day.
