I actually thought Alterock was a decent guy. I used to have frequent conversations with him 4-5 years ago when I was playing back then... turns out I might be wrong. So, I was walking through Thrak's and see two marks that I have been able to take quite a few gems from in the past, so I decide I could always use a few more deeds. There's also somebody I don't recognize: Eiroc.

I lift the gems from my normal marks and grab three gems from Eiroc. After a fourth attempt, I couldn't grab again, meaning he saw me. I hid and sort of waited it out for a moment... nothing. "Safe," I assume. I head into the Park to see if anyone is casting or if there are any marks. There are none of the above. However, the following ensues:

Eiroc just arrived.
Eiroc just went north.

I immediately assume the worst and believe he's looking for me, so I hide. He doesn't search a single time, but then this happens:

Alterock just arrived.

>look alt
You see Alterock the Thief.
He appears to be a Faendryl Dark Elf.
He appears to be very young and average height. He has bright grey-green eyes and fair skin. He has raggedly cut, brown hair with lighter streaks.
He has a gold-traced deathstone ring in the upper ridge of his left ear, a placid cow tattoo on his chest, a tiny pink elephant tattoo on his wrist, a placid cow tattoo on his chest, a broken white skull tattoo on his chest, and a deep black deathstone spike in his lip.
He is in good shape.
He is holding a long-handled horseman's axe in his right hand.
He is wearing a gold ring, a crystal amulet, a well-tailored assassins cloak woven of fine black-as-night cotton gauze that appears to conceal the wearer in a shadow, a pair of black leather half-gloves tipped at the end of each finger with iron guards, some blackened veniom cufflinks, a strip-woven suede unity armband, a brass-bound kobold skin Adventurer's Guild badge, an ivy-etched silver wedding band, a dark leather locksmith's toolkit, a spike imbedded gem sack, a pair of badly mud-stained dark leather trousers with an albatross-shaped ivory buckle, some steel-toed black leather boots, and a soot-covered krodera shield.

Someone screams, "Murder by Alterock! Call the night watchman!"

>hide
You are a ghost! You must wait until someone resurrects you, or you decay. Either way, it won't be long now! (HELP for more details).

Alterock says, "Bitch."

The night watchman stops as a deputy trots in. They have a quiet conversation before both turn around, drawing their weapons.
With great ease, the night watchman grabs Alterock and shackles his wrists.
"Ah-ha! The boys at Helga's said I might find something interesting here," says the night watchman.
The night watchman then drags him off.

... is this normal, now? Or did I catch him on a bad day?

He's usually not that bad. But Eiroc IS his second character, I know it for a fact since I mastered Eiroc in CoL for him.

He's named after his car. Apparently an IROC is a type of car, or something? I dunno.

I suppose you could get action taken against him, but he's a decent fellow, usually. Live and let live, usually.

I don't know what an IROC is either, but I know it from the song by Wheatus -- 'Teenage Dirtbag'.

"He lives on my block, and he drives an Iroc".

What a fucking tool. Go get your older character and just start fucking up his life.

What does he think he is, a gangster? And how many attempts will it take him to actually be a GREATER pussy than he appears as in that log?

Yes.

And keep stealing from him, the deaths cost him more than they cost you.

Iroc is a type of Camero - or an edition whatever

I guess I was just surprised by it, is all.

Also, an IROC is a Camaro. The 80's were heavy into the IROC's. Now the only people I've seen driving IROC's are people with mullets and Metallica Reload t-shirts.

What a dick. I guess you could report him but stealing from him and killing him would be more fun

That was just plain stupid. Stealing is a crime, MA abuse should be too.

He should die once just for this disrespect.

The player of Alterock/Eiroc is the same person. Jon does have a Camaro and I believe he RP's Eiroc as Alterock's son. I'm pretty sure he RP's Alterock as a badass asshole. So I'm not surprised that he did that. Believe me, my older character is his daughter and he's just as much as an ass to her, lmao. Lots of tough love. Maybe he should've RPed the whole thing much better, prolly with a reason for him bringing in Alterock to kill you.

Even if characters are "related" in game, you cannot have relatives solve your conflicts for you. I've been gaming 10 years with Jon, and I know he knows this.

Can you not report him for MA'ing?

Nilandia
09-11-2006, 02:57 AM
You can report him for bringing a higher-level character in to fight a lower-level character's battles. You will need to get proof, though, before you'll get anything done about it.

MAing is not and never has been against GemStone policy.

Yeah, Jon only has one account. Eiroc and Alterock are on the same one.

I sort of felt that it would have been fine if he was able to play it off as RP, but he didn't. He just said that "he wasn't right" and called me a bitch.

I'd have probably been cool with it if he could have used some patience and waited a half hour to kill me with Alterock, too. I'd have never checked to see if Eiroc was still in game, and I'd have had no idea who he was retaliating on behalf of. RP'ing a thief means understanding that there are times you grab from the wrong person, and dealing with it.

This isn't that type of case, this is a case of just getting pissed off.

Yeeeeah.

'Suck it' and 'bitch' are not RPing a badass.. words like that indicate that someone is pissed off OOC and has a temper problem. The fact that he logged in an alt to deal with the issue reinforces that.

Sad. Keep stealing from him, then go to the courthouse and watch as the fines rack up for him.

Well done for that. Or hard lines.. whichever.

Hard lines? Is that like when boaters say "tight lines" to each other?

Hard lines? Is that like when boaters say "tight lines" to each other?

I took it as sort of meaning "that sucks," since "hard terms" means the same. I honestly thought about attacking back, but was honestly too stunned. If you missed it, I didn't even go defensive until after the second strike.

Oh well, I haven't seen either of them in the inn since. As soon as I do, though, it's back to the thieving I go!

That's not MAing. That's MA abuse or breaking policy, or simply both. A single account can break policy just as easily as multiple accounts can.

Alterock never did anything to Falgrin.. obviously because he knew Falgrin was a better thief and rogue. :)
