Some colleagues and I did a study of the Death's Sting Quest. It's a lot larger and more complex than people realize.

Farn and the crew've been working on this for ages. heh. Stayed up til the wee hours of the morning messing with gnolls a few times. Good job putting everything together!

Yeah, nice info, even if the first paragraph is one of the worst written things I've ever read.

LOL, jerk. I was writing it after two straight days of studying.

Well done. Do you have a rough estimate on how long it would take a person to make the residue from start to finish? I assume the main timesink is waiting for the dragon to show up in the graveyard. Does he come automatically when you make wisps?

Hahah, nice hasty rewrite.

It took us a couple of hours, but I imagine the time could be greatly condensed. If you have a stockpile of crystals saved up, for example, you don't need to wait for the gnolls to make their way up the path. (They move at typical NPC speed, bleah!)

If you are a halfling or dwarf with sufficient climbing and perception ability, my answer would be that you could probably handle the parts I listed in under a half hour.

As I stated in the study, I'm not sure that this process actually makes the residue, and what conditions dictate the amount made. I really would appreciate any other contributions to help figure out that last portion. I'm a mite burnt out.

Can it be done from the EN? I'd have to stock up on Death's Sting potions for a level, heh.

How do you collect the residue?

I tried with an empty LK flask and it didn't work.

You cannot collect the residue if it has not collected at the bottom of the mound. I listed the different look description of the mound for when there is residue available.

As for EN, I did this entire piece in Wehnimer's. I don't know if there's an EN equivalent, or--again--if this entire complex process is actually what makes the residue.

There's 5 rows of trees?

And 3rd row seemed to do something in Solhaven?

Maybe it's 1) Wehnimer's, 2) Teras, 3) Solhaven, 4) River's Rest, 5) Ta'Illistim?

Anyone know if there's mounds any other places? If those are the only five with mounds, then it seems safe to say. Does anyone know if the mounds are in different places? To tell the truth, I didn't realize there were multiple mounds in a place - I've only ever seen the one on Sylvarraend road in Ta'I.

I only saw the final LOOK description for the mound.

Can you actually show some input commands so that people can help build on your research (which looks like it's mostly inference the way you've documented it in that link, although I haven't had time to explore the rest of that site.)

Thanks.

Yeah, I'll be adding some input commands soon. Regarding the inference bit... I tried to verify everything that I wrote there, and I didn't always write what didn't work. (For example, there was no reaction with the spire when the bin was under-filled, the dragon didn't teleport when he was underfed, etc.)

I'm sure that I could narrow down the exact numerical amounts required for everything... but I wanted this document to be a set of broad strokes that wouldn't take all the fun out of this experience.

Put some updates up on the document, with respects to Maliku's player. I think we've put the final nail in the coffin of this quest, even with regard to how acorns dictate residue creation. (I'm of the unverified opinion that it's a "more the merrier" approach.)

I'd like to apologize again to StrayRogue for the writing quality. We don't all have the vaunted skills required to write for Dungeons and Dragons magazine.

I hope you don't mind, but I couldn't stand to read the red font on that background, so I stripped the colors/background and saved it in my server folder.

It will be removed upon request, etc.

Take it down. Now.

No, just kidding. You're welcome to it, man! Just keep in mind that I'll be updating. (In fact, I rolled one out earlier.)

And yeah, I know the red formatting is gross, but I'm no web designer, as the rest of mularos.com quickly reveals.

What a load of wank! How come Rhett got all the credit for the randomness of the wasp?! I was there too?!

In the dark claret cape you see a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a faded green runestone, a faded green runestone, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a piece of dry residue, a chipped glass vial, a small crystal flask, an aquamarine wand, and a gruesome skull.

The contrast of black font on a white background is just as bad for (my) eyes.
