I once saw an Edvard Munch exhibit as an undergrad. His work is so beautiful, haunting, I spent days in the exhibit that the curator thought I was an art student. When she found out I was a comp sci major, she was a bit surprised.

I have to say, the thought that this painting is back in the public domain almost made me tear up a bit. Maybe I'm getting emo in my old age.

"The Scream," Munch's most famous work, is an icon of existential angst showing a terrified figure against a blood-red sky. "Madonna" shows a bare-breasted woman with long black hair.

The juxtaposition there is awesome.

That's supposed to be the most chaste, pure, innocent woman the world has ever seen, and the mother of God. I love Munch.

Truly an imposing and masterful work of art. I love Munch's work. So much so I own The Scream painting as well as a 3-D sculptural version which is one of my favorite pieces of art to date.

Seriously, when a physical object this famous is stolen, how do thieves that are cunning enough to break through such barriers not anticipate the repercussions of zero profit coincided with much jail-time from the moment the culprits try to obtain a monetary reward?

This is the same crap that happened when the Star of India was stolen. Foresight, people! C'mon!
