I imagine a few of you might be interested in this, you can make some pretty cool looking (fantasy) artwork with this software, and they're giving it away for free (current version is 5.5 so I think they're trying to hook you so you
upgrade, or get you to buy plugins).

I'll have to send this link to my little brother. He used Bryce in his graphic art class in high school and he can make rediculous 3D images in a matter of a few minutes. He's currently doing artwork for my mom's company.

I used Bryce 1.0 and then 2.0 about 10 years ago. Very neat program. In fact, if anyone remembers, Simu had an art contest to look for staff artists for H&X, and I was one of the winners. I'm not sure if they ever ended up using any of my pictures, but they can all be viewed at http://tartell.tripod.com.
Many of the pictures are very primitive, but back then they were pretty impressive. And yes, I know the website is horrid, but I haven't bothered updating it since I created it in 97.

I really like those pics. Real nice work! I think it's pretty impressive to be able to have done that back then.

Bryce has been losing ground to programs like Poser, Lightwave, and Maya for years, this could be an attempt to get people to go back to what used to be a hot product, and if they did the right things with the program it could be a definite possibility.

Anyone else trying this out? I get it DL'd, go through the web page to register, then try to use the seriel id, and Bryce says the seriel id is invalid. (yes, I am simply copying and pasting)
Ideas? Suggestions?

I was able to register it just fine. The first time it opened, it brought up a page with a short serial number. It has the option to go to the webpage, which I did, where I registered an account and then activated it. It then brought me right to a page with another serial number on it that was super long and super convoluted, and entirely different from the initial serial number. I copied and pasted that into the box, and it started working. It then prompted me to download another package that had a bunch of presets in it.
I'm kind of disappointed, though. Bryce 5.0 seems to be identical to the last Bryce I used over 5 years ago, which was Bryce 3-D. Some things here and there are different, but nearly everything else is the same.

I think this is a neat program, now if I can only learn how to use it.

Bryce has really good rendering, but from what I recall it's really hard to make anything beyond basic shapes.
