Thinking of rolling a rogue. I'm pretty unfamiliar with most of the GS4 changes, so I don't really have much idea on how to do assign my stats or what a good training plan would be. I'd like to train max lockpick and probably 2x disarm and perception but want to max out my ambushing skills and stuff too, and I have no idea if any of the new skills like dodging are worth bothering with, or how the new combat maneuvers work, etc.

If anyone feels like showing me a good stat/training plan, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

EDIT: Also when you do your character's training when creating, is that for levels 0 and 1 at the same time? Or can rogues 4x in edged weapons and stuff now?

Also, are guild skills still an absolute must for rogues?

armor 5/0
shield 4/0
weapon 2/1, 4/2
disarm 1/1, 2/2, 3/3
picking 1/1, 2/2, 3/3
CMs 4/4
dodge 2/1, 4/2
ambush 2/1, 4/2
PT 3/0
AS 0/7- as you can get it
MIU 0/8- as you can get it
MinE 401-404 @ 0/67 each- 1 spell every 4-5 trains
Climbing 1/0- single when you have extra up to 25 ranks
swimming 2/0- single when you have extra up to 25 ranks
Perception 0/1, 0/2
Hiding 1/1, 2/2

That's what it'll cost you, I can't see being able to get all of these in, at an early train. Rogues start coming together at 40'ish trains or so.

Just go swords until 60, after that it's up to you.

I've never actually needed them until I started hunting Stronghold/Bowels.

Stunmaneuvers are a real nice ace up you sleeve, provided you weren't mind jolted.

What race? I'd recommend getting Tsoran's sheet and then start plugging in some numbers that will either get you max TP's or max stats by cap. You can get a starting set by using the statcalc website.

Only 2x in weaponry.

Some are, some arent.

Sweep is very utilitarian, I use it a lot when I need to put something on the ground. Stunmanuevers help as mentioned, except when you're stunned over 8 rounds or with mind jolt. Gambits are cheap and easy ranks plus fun if you're jerking around in the park. Gambits are also helpful if you're an archer using a crossbow and want to stand/kneel while hidden. Cheapshots are handy if you're wanting to disable a pure using throatcut, also handy to use for forcing the target to offensive (swiftkick). Lockmastery if you plan on being a mastersmith versus just a locksmith (wedging, pick repair, trap measuring, etc).

It used to be that having a high number of ranks helped defend against manuevers used against you; however I think I heard somewhere that this might be tweaked or changed if it has not already.

My thoughts on the guild.....Cheapshots and Stunmans are a must....Sweep and Subdue are easy fillers when you have to diversify...Gambits are a waste of time. Lockmastery, if you're going after an uber picker, is a must if for no other reason than the 5 second RT after you master.

No, but they're a good way to get cmans without spending any points.

With the ambush push down, sweep/cheapshot are nowhere near as useful as they used to be. I still use kneebash occasionally on griffins, but it's hardly necessary.

Stunmaneuvers are key, and ridiculously easy to get now. When they made the changes, the last 48 ranks took less time than the first 15 did.

As for maneuvers, the ones you would probably benefit the most from are surge, mobility (for later) and shadow mastery. Everything else is pretty much at your discretion.

Dodging is crucial, because that's where the bulk of your DS is going to come from. You should at least double in it.
