Teras Isle....Volcanic Slopes....and Steaming insta death.
That's pretty much my friggin complaint.
Is there any way to avoid this steam or any certain rooms or signs to know when its coming and when to avoid it?

The steam's got me the last two nights, insta death, I travel light, I am a ranger with constant mobiles and 602 up. I can't figure it out. Does getting resistance on armor help at all, cause that's my next step since I've decided to move in to Teras on a permanent basis.

It does. One of the resistences Resist nature offers is Steam resistance. Getting that from a skilled ranger will bring your steam related deaths down to zero in all but the most lopsided engagements.

Definately helps, I got a couple of mine done by Regyy with steam resistance and haven't been killed yet. Most damage I've gotten is 10-15 hps with one or two minors.
Can be expensive, but worth it if you're planning on spending a lot of time in the area. I think there are only 2 areas in the game that use steam type area affects.

Regyy is most definitely the BEST in Nature Resistance work (70.5% protection up to VHCP Brig). He is subsequently also the most expensive. There are a few others who offer a slightly lesser level of protection for I would assume much less silver (Odysia, Dimaire). If your armor isn't padded, they are likely the way to go. Unless, of course, you're a perfectionist who always has to have the best of everything.
Err, the areas I know of with steam based attacks are River's Rest: Oteska's haven, and those slopes on Teras. Isn't there also a place with columns of steam that can burn you, or is that the Soul Golem area on Teras?
Personally, I think Regyy's prices are just out of this world, but you can find someone to do near as good a job for cheaper.

That depends on the type of armor, Light leather - Brig, and the padding, Light - Very Heavy
The most expensive would have several million for VHCP Brig because it would take the most potions to complete.

I'll probably get my plate heavily padded against fire crits depending on how the new Teras area unfolds.
Learn how to effectively hunt the basalt flows and you won't have even have to worry about this crap.

Ranger padding only works up to brig.

What should I look for as far as pricing on just some 4x doubles, maybe 4x brig? nothing fancy just something to help me avoid the steam...and what's going to be the most important for me whilst I'm up on Teras, Fire or Steam resistance?

Well, if you stay there until Mages, they hit you with fire on EVERY death blow. It eats up resistance quickly. I usually take off my armor when I visit.

well I plan on staying here, indefinatly really, I love it up here. Uhm what do you mean on every death blow...wouldn't ya want to have it on in that case? I'm not a big fan of diein. But I'm also a bit confused what that means.

Every time you kill a Fire Mage, it shoots fire out of its eyes which hits you. The damage I would guess is level based.
If you are playing a ranger just have her put the resistance in her armor.
