I thought it was a GS myth that 116 messagings will tell you where a person is when they're 'out of range'.

It's random, yes?

I'm not about to argue with Bhambi, but I thought I'd ask in case I"m wrong.

I always wondered if the little description actually related to anywhere. I heard someone the other day say it did but I dunno, maybe il go test it.

It is related to location. Dwarven volcano one is Teras etc. However, the spell was not updated for EN, I do not think. It used to give a rough approximation of the location/area. The addition of the nations may have broken this of course.

Last I remember, the pictures you got were random. They have absolutely nothing to do with the person's actual location. Seems like somebody tested that, but I do not remember who anymore. ::sigh::

That's what I thought, but people argue, because the messaging seems to indicate something else.

WE tested it last night, but of course, people argued, so... whatever.

As I said. Broken.

When that first started I thought it did relate to something pertinent but I've come to realize it 'lies' to you. It'd be nice if that got fixed because I see zero point to it giving a false indication.

We got the same messaging in Plat, where with the portals it would be very easy to check. It sure was random there. There was no way to attribute any images to locations, it just didnt work out.

It's always (as long as I've been here)been random, even before EN was introduced. There's also always been someone that insists that the descriptions are accurate.

The only way that you can still use it somewhat when folks are in other towns, is if they happen to be hunting in one of the hunting areas that are unlocatable. Even if they are in another town, you'll see something along the lines of "Your mind opens outwards towards Xxxxx and then nothing...

Some examples of those types of hunting areas would be the Eye, the Rift, the Tower, OTF, etc...

Adredrin, we don't get images in Icemule.

I'm currently in TSC in the landing. I just located Oran, who is in Icemule.

>prep 116
You gesture while calling upon the lesser spirits to aid you with the Locate Person spell...
Your spell is ready.
>cast oran
You gesture into the air.
Awareness expands as your mind reaches out, questing for Oran. Images flash past your senses...

A maze of forest trails leading towards a tall, rusty gate.
A gigantic peak rising above the clouds as if reaching towards the gods themselves.
Shambling bodies struggling up from the dirt as they converge on a pair of warriors standing back to back, blades drawn in defense.

Slowly the images fade as the magic begins to unravel.
Oran must be beyond the reach of your spell.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

And again....

Emerald green forest broken by a thread of sparkling water.
A wide meadow filled with ruby-colored wildflowers.
Silver fur flashing in the sun as a huge creature shambles across a pale blue glacier.

Slowly the images fade as the magic begins to unravel.
Oran must be beyond the reach of your spell.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

A small, filthy village filled with small, filthy creatures.
Light reflecting off a gem-like lake with a small island in the center. Along the shore of the lake is a settlement of some sort.
A ruddy glow rising from the cone of a volcanic crater, several clouds of deep red hover around the outside of the cone.

Slowly the images fade as the magic begins to unravel.
Oran must be beyond the reach of your spell.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

3 out of 3 locates says Maimara is right.

I repeat, the EN has nothing to do with it. It's not really "broken", as the spell has always worked this way.

Years ago (before Solhaven and EN was around) I tested it and I came to the conclusion it was random. I figured that out after I located the same person over and over, and got every message the locate system offered.

I specifically remember testing this because I too thought if I located someone and got the 'volcano' message the person must be on teras. Well once I realized I got that message when the target was in Icemule, hence my reasons to test it at that time.

It used to be related. It got broken with the release of Teras Isle and was never fixed.

Well, if that's the case.....there was only icemule and the landing right? So if you couldn't locate someone...heh it would be easy to narrow it down as to where they were.
