[Gyldemar Road]
Thick rushes rise from the dank water, choking the area and providing excellent cover for anything small enough to fit underneath them. The rushes, combined with the water cover and unsure footing, keep the larger predators out of the area. Muskrat dens appear frequently along the edges of what might still be called a 'road,' and often one of the small, bare-tailed mammals can be seen scurrying for the safety of its home. You also see the Tsin disk, the translucent Chazym disk, a sturdy thanot chest, a brown wasp, a brown wasp, a brown wasp, a brown wasp, a brown wasp, a brown wasp, a brown wasp, a brown wasp, a brown wasp, a brown wasp, a plain wooden box, a simple monir coffer, an iron-bound modwir trunk, a scratched modwir trunk, an engraved modwir strongbox, an iron-bound tanik coffer, a dented gold trunk, a rotting modwir strongbox, a scratched brass trunk, an enruned haon trunk, a badly damaged maoral coffer, a corroded mithril strongbox, an enruned gold trunk, a plain gold trunk, an enruned thanot strongbox, a scratched modwir strongbox, a simple tanik strongbox, a badly damaged silver trunk, a plain modwir trunk, a corroded steel trunk, a scratched steel box, a simple thanot trunk, a dented gold coffer, a weathered thanot box, a badly damaged gold coffer, a battered iron box, a sturdy mithril strongbox, a rotting monir box, an engraved thanot box, a battered gold chest, a dented brass chest, a corroded mithril coffer, an engraved gold strongbox, a scratched fel coffer, a scratched maoral chest, an engraved wooden coffer, a badly damaged thanot box, an enruned monir trunk, a scratched thanot coffer, an acid-pitted gold box, a scratched maoral coffer, a sturdy tanik chest, a badly damaged monir coffer, an enruned brass box, an engraved thanot strongbox, a battered brass trunk, an engraved monir coffer, a rotting haon trunk, an engraved thanot box, an enruned mithril coffer, a sturdy thanot coffer, an iron-bound thanot trunk, an acid-pitted mithril box, an acid-pitted steel coffer, a sturdy mithril box, an engraved tanik trunk, an iron-bound maoral strongbox, a plain haon chest, a scratched steel chest, an enruned silver trunk, an engraved silver trunk, a sturdy silver strongbox, a sturdy gold chest, a weathered modwir chest, a weathered haon coffer, a simple modwir trunk, a dented gold box, a rotting modwir trunk, a weathered modwir trunk, an engraved thanot chest, a simple haon box, an enruned tanik coffer, a corroded steel chest, an enruned gold trunk, an enruned modwir strongbox, a weathered wooden trunk, a badly damaged steel box, an engraved modwir coffer, a scratched maoral strongbox, a badly damaged modwir box, a badly damaged thanot strongbox, an enruned tanik chest, a simple thanot trunk, an enruned silver trunk and a bunch of other stuff.

[Gyldemar Road]
Something has died just off the road. It is far enough out in the swamp that moving off the road to investigate would be foolhardy at best, but close enough that the flies and odor are very much apparent. This, combined with the oppressive humidity, mist, sucking mud and monotonous vegetation suggest that there are probably far more interesting places one could occupy. The road, as best as can be ascertained, continues to forge northwest and east.
Obvious paths: east, northwest
>
[Gyldemar Road, Sentinels]
The roadway rises slightly above the swamp. From the appearances, someone has purposely built a small hillock here atop which two massive granite sentinels stand, silent and unmoving. No method of circumventing the sentinels presents itself. If one wishes to continue along the road in an easterly direction, one must pass between the sentinels. Westward the road slides into the swamp and fights to stay above the sucking mud. You also see a large faenor-chased basket.

Flanking the inn's doorposts and hanging above each glaesine-paned window, grinning gargoyles stand in stony defense of the lair within. The part I don't understand is why would anyone risk inevitable confrontation and having to look over your shoulder for the rest of your life over such a small amount of money... I make 4 or 5 of those size piles a day and have lost thousands of of boxes in the past to GM bullshit or game crashes.. Why would anyone think that destroying 100 boxes would matter at all? How stupid do you have to be to make an enemy that hunts nonstop in the only hunting area available to you.. Hope it was worth it, cause i'll be sure to make you regret it.

Okay. While it was fucked up, if I left that many boxes laying around, I'd expect someone to take them, or atleast try to.

And no, I'm not saying anything to the effect of, "Well Tsin has all this coin, what the fuck does it matter to him? He deserved it."

I'm not. But I'm not going to even count and there had to be what...60 boxes laying out there? You're begging for someone to screw with you. Why not fill up in disks, containers, etc and then open what you have, and then head back out? Because it encumbers you? Boo fucking hoo...perhaps things have changed but I recall it being frowned apon to camp your ass in one room and somehow scoop up all the loot one done. Then again I've been wrong before.

Yeah, because it's just SO horrible to see that when walking through the room.

It has nothing to do with the screen scroll (which is obnoxious enough, but tolerable).

It has a lot to do with seriously depleting the critters and the treasure in an area.

I do understand that is not uncommon. I still think it's fucking ridiculous.

Woops...

You leap from hiding to attack!
You swing an enormous ironwood mattock at Reltov!
AS: +675 vs DS: +450 with AvD: +36 + d100 roll: +31 = +292
... and hit for 116 points of damage!
Mighty swing separates head from shoulders.

* Reltov drops dead at your feet!

The silvery luminescence fades from around Reltov.
A shadow seems to detach itself from Reltov's body, swiftly dissipating into the air.
The glowing specks of energy surrounding Reltov suddenly shoot off in all directions, then quickly fade away.
The tingling sensation and sense of security leaves Reltov.
The very powerful look leaves Reltov.
The white light leaves Reltov.
The powerful look leaves Reltov.
The air calms down around Reltov.
Reltov loses some awareness.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around Reltov.
Reltov glances around, looking a bit less confident.
The dull golden nimbus fades from around Reltov.
The bright luminescence fades from around Reltov.
The light blue glow leaves Reltov.
The deep blue glow leaves Reltov.
The guiding force leaves you.
Roundtime: 6 sec.
Roundtime changed to 1 second.

In addition, anyone I see helping Reltov or Jamus whether it's rescues or assisting him with bounty tasks such as supplying gems will no longer get any help from myself or my friends.

Uhh, for all the shit people talk about Tsin, he and his folks tend to help anyone they come across behind the barrier whether stunned/prone/dead, including me on numerous occasions. So he's alright in my book, but then again, I don't know him all that well in game.

And as for depleting the treasure: hell, I usually walk out of OTF with 4 boxes, and that's a pretty poor hunt, IMO. Usually can get 6 easily. Tsin doesn't deplete the treasure in there at all, if I wanted, I could easily make silvers hand over fist ("if I wanted" means "if I could stay alive consistently"). Many (okay, not many, but some) people even leave their boxes in OTF because they don't want to be bothered by the encumberance.

It wasn't his anger of having his room poofed, I don't agree with someone bringing OOC into the game, so I understand his irritation. You are right, that was a stupid thing to say.. I obviously can't get mad at everyone who helps them, it was a heat of the moment response.. Everyone keeps saying over and over there is NOTHING I can do to retaliate, because I would get banned if I kill them.. Seeing as he doesn't have a room full of boxes to implode, hindering the assistance he would get from other people seemed like the only possible consequence I could enforce. Many people have agreed not to rescue him or help him anymore to try and prove a point, but I won't "blacklist" the people who are just trying to help others.

It's very hard to not take something in game.

Tsin has a nice and rich history of screwing people over. I really don't care if people have had nothing but good experiences with him ... the history is there. Very little of the events that happen in game are without influence from events that take place out of the game or via the grape vine in game.

Was it right that all of Tsin's farming was lost to an implosion? Strip away all the bullshit ... someone paid to do it for whatever reason, out of game influences, character/player history ... YOU FUCKING BET IT WAS.

Don't be a dumb ass and leave crap lying all over the ground. Take it to a table, pick in the field, use a cleric sanctuary ... whatever. Leaving it on the ground, especially for a product of a wet dream that got lucky with the aim, is asking for it.

I hate bandwagoning, and that is exactly what blacklisting is... getting people to jump on a bandwagon for a cause they particularly are not directly involved in.

With that said, I will continue to help those who ask me for help and have not screwed me in the past.

Just for matter of opinion, I dont necessarily think that the action of imploding the wasp was OOC; however, I do think the motivation behind it was. Reltov walked a fine line, which by interpretation a GM would not rule against. And as retribution, Tsin got his allowed kill. The matter should stop here until Reltov does something again, then the balance will need correcting.

As Tsin later corrected, the blacklisting comment was over the top and said out of anger. Although I imagine that his efforts will barely notice the loss considering what I see in the .5 seconds I spend walking through his camp, screen scroll or no.

My only issue with his camping there with the boxes is if it causes any resource drag on the game. OTF generates tons of treasure by nature of the risk of hunting there, so I dont see his actions depleting any treasure opportunity I might have while inside. Well, that and the inconveinence of running to a room full of odd creatures invading Tsin's camp, as sent by a GM, and getting smoked by some insane AS from 30+ attackers at once. :(

Nice bringing ooc to the game, and roleplaying the conflict.

Paaaalease. Tsin wouldn't know roleplay if it bit him on the ass. Even when he "got his revenge" the fucking pussy is using another character to haste him (like he does anytime he gets into a conflict, MA's his ass off).

I thought it was funny. I've thought about logging in and just beating the everliving fuck out of all his characters repeatedly, but it's that whole OOC thing holding me back.

Caede
08-15-2006, 11:03 AM
I guess I'm not sure why people are getting upset about 'bringing OOC into the game' in this instance.

Was Reltov's imploding a wasp and 'accidentily' sucking up all the boxes as part of a wager on Psinet-OOC any more OOC than Tsin farming OTF day after day with his cadre of MA slaves for out-of-game gain? You act like Tsin is totally IC in his box-farming operation and this was a blatant drop from that, bringing OOC into the game. I'm not even saying anything is wrong with Tsin -- if I had his resources, I'm sure I'd be doing the same thing, and probably not being nearly as helpful to the others at the barrier.

Either way, Tsin got his revenge and this should be over. It's a friggin' game.

Here are my thoughts on this matter...

Reltov was talking about it on OOC before he did it...

Wasps are VERY rare...

The wasps were released very early, either the first or second box...

Reltov stated he didnt want to implode anyone, and would not have done it if not for the wasps...

How many people have stated that certain GM's already target Tsin?

think about it...

Was Reltov really guilty? or just a victim of opportunity...

Numbers

Honestly, if I had a character that was able to survive attacks from Tsin and his army of drones, I'd probably implode or take those boxes any chance I'd get.

Stuff on the ground is fair game. Always has been, always will be. Of course, there's the obvious niceness and respect you must show if you know who that stuff belongs to. And while I do respect Tsin's ability to make lots of silvers (regardless of the cheating and OOC methods he uses), I hardly respect him as a person. And frankly, the sheer arrogance and cockiness of thinking that he owns that room and that anybody daring to take or destroy a box from that room is absolutely absurd. If the GM's have actually gone out of their way to remove those boxes in the past, you should know better by now.

Get a table like everybody else, and you'll never have this problem again.

Considering the GMs do stuff to poof rooms of boxes such as this, I don't think it's bad at all that a player would do it as well.. especially given that anything on the ground is fair game, and for that matter, even things in your inventory that aren't properly guarded are fair game. To be perfectly fair, Tsin makes his living off these text boxes literally. He spends all day farming boxes and selling the loot. What is it? 500k an hour so 12 hours a day 6 mil x 15 bucks. Thats 90 $ a day. That comes to $32850 a year and then you couple that with WoW (which you're running in the background or on another computer). Then you're pushing 60k a year. Thats a lot of money. So when you implode a room full of boxes, to Tsin it's like you putting your hand into his pockets and taking out a fist full of cash. Of course to the normal 99% of us, it's just text based nonesense.

First off, I think that the extra attention that Tsin gets off of scenarios like this help him in the long run WAY more than it hurts him.

Yes he farms boxes, yes he uses multiple characters to do so, yes he employs others to help him in this endeavor. Big Deal.

Was it stupid of him to have the reaction he did to the implosion? Sure, even he admitted that he over reacted to it.

Was it really a suprise to anyone familiar with Tsin? Not really.

Is he violating game mechanics? No.

He could lay low at a table with this operation, use the helpful feature of CLEAN TABLE to get rid of the empty boxes, and not suffer the indulgences of those who seek him out for his actions, and not suffer the odd things that the GM's throw his way.

But then he would not get the play he does, which in marketing circles, means if people arent thinking about you, then they arent buying from you.

Yeah, I'm sure he's making a lucrative living... I'd actually be surprised if he's made any profit. He's not that bright, and he's spent tons of cash buying items/silver/characters.

For a lousy $32k a year he'd have to work 12 hours, 24/7/365, and on top of that sell 6mil a day at $15 a mil.

We’ve gone over the feasibility of making a living playing GS and its just not plausible.

There isn't as much money in WoW, unless you're a dedicated Chinese farmer or a cheat.
Yep. And you can't really run it in the background because there's no natural rest time like their is in GS. You could maybe use something like Glide, but I'm pretty sure you can't do other stuff while it's running because it takes over the mouse and keyboard.

The self employment tax alone on $50,000 a year PROFIT is $7,650. That doesn't even factor in the income tax. Which if you had no other source of income and lived in California would be 50,000 less standard deduction of $5,000 for 2005 less $3,200 for the exemption (which being a full-time student and under 24 your parents probably claim) and 1/2 of your SE tax or $3,825 leaves you with around $42,000 to $38,000 of taxable income. Apply the single rates to that and you are looking at $6,665 of tax plus the SE tax. So your federal tax bill for that $50,000 a year profit is roughly $14,315. That does not even factor in probably another $2,000 per year if you live in California.

Lets see approx $15,000 a year for three years. You probably owe about $45,000 in back taxes right now.

I made lots of assumptions but that is pretty close.

The only good thing is that none of this gets reported to the IRS...but that doesn't mean your still not responsible to report it and to pay tax on it.

I don't particularly like how Tsin goes about his business, nor do I like the money-cheating ways.. so, I do everything in my power to avoid buying stuff from Tsin, and have deterred friends from doing so. While I don't think I'd tell the IRS unless he personally did something to piss me off, it would give me a good hour of laughs to find out he HAD been reported. Editted to add that I'd laugh to find out ANYONE had been reported for money farming off of a game and not taxing the money and getting turned in.

That pretty much negates any claim that the "arrogant jerk" behaviors are confined to your GS character.

Weezy on point. To respond...

Before I lay down my doubts let me say first that we only have your word on this. There is no way that we could check records for any of this stuff. No doubt the people who run GS can track silver transfers between characters/accounts and have the real numbers.

So there are a few things that leads me to believe otherwise, just based on common sense. Of course, these are just my opinions and those are just that, my opinions.

I’ve been on-line since... holy hell, '95. Been playing games since '97. I know the on-line community through trial and error for over 10 years. Over that time I’ve developed a “bullshit” filter. What I will say at this point is that people give out more bullshit than truth about themselves on-line. Even moreso than reality.

I’ve read the famous Ciston article in which he claims he made $100k in one year. And thats just it, he claims. There was no real fact checking on it. While at the time I was awed, like everyone else, I have now come to question that claim. I’ve even considered contacting Snopes about it. Bear with me, there is a reason for this.

If it were actually possible to clear $100k a year playing GS, why aren’t there more people doing it for a living? If we say .5% of the GS population of an estimate of 500 is savvy enough to clear that, then you could be right. But wouldn’t a mere .5% of people pumping that much silver into the game wreck the exchange rate? Imagine if it were 1%? Or 5%?

In another post you called yourself small-change or something to that effect compared to EQ. I believe that because of the player base of 550k as someone mentioned. .5% of that base must be clearing hundreds of thousands, if not close to a mil a year, by your standards.

Another reason why I doubt this is that if the people behind GS saw players making that much real life money that they could be getting, they would take steps to manage that. And my guess is, they are way ahead of the curve.

Hopefully Ganalon has more thoughts on this. He is the Economic Major.

Gan
08-18-2006, 12:07 AM
I'm guessing the exaggeration factor is about x10.

3 billion or 3,000 million is an awful lot of silvers to move in raw form, and would have definately been felt in the gaming community with regards to high end merchandise that still remains on the racks in playershops, that should have/would have been purchased.

I have to side with Backlash's skepticism on this point.

Sheesh I cant decide what to laugh at more in this thread.

From an inside point of view the Ciston article in the times is close enough to accurate to be correct in my book, and that was not his best year. Having helped sort and test many of the items he bought and sold for half a decade or so, its very easy to see him selling 10-15 billion silver in items and coins in that time. Having helped friends liquidate in the past Tsin's assertions of a billion in sales in 2 weeks or whatever are not unlikely, I brokered 12 grand in sales in a 2 day period last winter. If you are the only or one of the few sources of certain items you can easily make decent money in GS..

However what does all this have to do with people acting like children and voiding someones boxes?

How is it that you could graduate college in two relatively intensive majors while playing gemstone, smoking and getting drunk on a near constant basis?

Something just isn't adding up.

When I went to college, all those years ago.. they had things call scholarships, grants and other free tuition assistance. I didn't know very many people who paid the 'regular' price.. and if they did they were too dumb to be in college anyway.

Backlash you might wanna call a plumber, sounds like your bullshit filter got clogged.

Obviously some of you never got into the GS Sales. Since you haven't been in them, please refrain from stating opinions about it like you actually KNOW something.

Ardwen can correct me if I am wrong, but in Cistons case, I am pretty sure he didn't buy or own everything he sold. He just made comission on things.

As far as the 3billion Ganalon mentioned, where did that come from? The value of the items? Tsin said he only had about 1.2b in coins. Most of the items he had for sale were partial trades or something of that sort. You notice he kept updating with more items? Also he deals in CASH. Some people most likely jumped on the rare items with a few bucks they just had lying around. As far as the player shops, most of that junk is overpriced. And half the overpriced stuff I see doesn't list what it actually is. So unless you been around long enough to just know what it is. Why would anyone go spend 50m+ on something with no stats or guarantee?

You have to have money to make money in most cases. Gemstone is one of those things. You either need to have invested alot of time or money in order to get anything out of it. And time equals money in more ways than one.

Many of you hardcore players have been in Gemstone for years upon years, paying subscription fees, and sometimes buying into merchants. If someone with the money and inclination wanted to, they could come into Gemstone, spend the same amount of money you have and come out with alot more to show for it. Then they could sell it, make profit, and do it all over again. Just because someone spends a thousand dollars on a character, doesnt always mean they just threw the money down the drain. There is always someone else who will buy the character, or you can always use the character to make coins in various ways. Same with items. There is almost always someone waiting to buy the item from you. Why? Because its rare or unique.

As far as the question of why other people havent gotten into the things like Ciston did, and Tsin is now doing. There ARE other people in it. But they either aren't operating in the open like those two did, or they aren't quite as big an operation.

It can be done, but you would have to be really picky about your investments, GS-wise.

Another alternative is to Assume Aspect yourself into Fred Sanford like Allen does. With every character that goes on sale, he is ready and willing to ignore your asking price and offer you fifty bucks.

Lying about an item's properties can quickly gain you the silvers you want, if you can Tsin your way through it.

Not that I'm defending Tsin but there are these things in college outside of tuition that you need to spend money on, they're called books and supplies. And without knowing his situation and because i'm too lazy to goto the UW site I don't know if that 30k included things like room and board. I'm not saying it costs you an extra 10k a year (50,000/5 years) but the point is just because it cost you $X/yr in tuition doesn't mean it costs you $X/yr to attend school.

You won't know when it's coming.. It might not be today or tomorrow or even this week.. It will come when you think I forgot and you are safe.

In addition, anyone I see helping Reltov or Jamus whether it's rescues or assisting him with bounty tasks such as supplying gems will no longer get any help from myself or my friends.

and

It's not worth the money.. If I don't make an example out of him other people will try and do it..

I'll repeat myself again.. anyone I see helping Reltov or Jamus with spells, rescues or even gems for bounty tasks will get any help again. Along with informing as many people as humanly possible not to help you or them ever again.

What would you all do without me?

Dear Tsin,

1. If you're going to make a comment like that, in game, learn to whisper OOC.

2. If you're going to make a comment like that, in game, stick around long enough for me to respond.

3. I've been skeptical of your claims, and have been bemused and yet disgusted with your arrogance on the boards; however, with all of your actions, I've been hardly vitriolic as compared to others who have participated in the threads about you.

4. If by bringing that comment to my attention, after your character helped my character while hunting, your sole intention was to make me think that losing your favor would have negative consequences in game... YOU'RE OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND.

5. My advice to you. Quit participating and responding to threads made about you on the PC. In fact, if you just cant stay away from selling your items here, then refrain from posting anything more than simple item descriptions and the word *bump, or sold.

6. I'll refrain from posting what I think about your maturity with this stunt. Its clear enough without having to dillute it with my commentary.

What do/did they do?

GS4-D
08-18-2006, 03:38 PM
This is what Thalior's Eye does, as per the current owner's information.

Opening the eye:

You concentrate on the emerald eye, forcing it to
open.

It stays open for about 15 seconds.

Then you stare at whatever...

If it fails:

You feel a sharp pain burning deep within your skull!
You feel a sudden dizziness and you fall to the
ground.
The air about you stops shimmering.
You feel the aura of confidence leave you.
Roundtime: 10 Sec.

This leaves you flat on your back, and removes every
spell from you, so it's not ideal for hunting.

If successful:

A kobold suddenly shudders!
... 5 points of damage!
Light shock to left arm. That stings!
... 50 points of damage!
Eye spins backward into skull. The kobold falls to
the ground dead.
The kobold crumples to a heap on the ground and dies.
Roundtime: 3 sec.

The Eye closes automatically:

You feel the emerald eye shut.

Taking the eye out:

You clench your teeth and rip the emerald eye from
your right eye socket.

You scream in pain!
You are stunned.
Roundtime: 20 sec.

Putting the eye in:

You insert a dark blue emerald eye into your empty
right eye socket.

It only works on the living, if you try and stare at
something undead it will calm them. You need to be
missing an eye to put it in, but you can heal the eye
once you're wearing it so it doesn't hinder your
hunting ability.

StrayRogue
08-18-2006, 03:40 PM
It also stuns the target, forces them into kneeling, and opens a bleeder.

bubbauno

Thalior's eye is a dark blue emerald eye you can wear.. when you stare at people/critters it sends these things like leeches into your body that immolate you.. It's not dodgeable that I know of. Which would most likely get nerfed if anyone other than Speaker owned it..

Red armor is 5x +40 damage padded full plate, currently owned by Blueland. Used to be worth 400m.. Now it's worth like 150 since damage market got killed.

Crystal ball used to be unlimited locate and teleport to anyone, anywhere.. I just sold it recently to Katara, and then it was nerfed to be 3x per day with 1x per day cross realms.

Merzbow
08-18-2006, 03:42 PM

StrayRogue

Level has no factor. It is random.

No, and no one particularly. It's a fond term used to refer to the PC posters as a whole.

I call a lot of folks 'kiddo', don't take offense.

There were a good 15-20 items that would have sold for 350+ million silvers, some still would others have been nerfed, not one item has been added to the game that would sell for anywhere near that.

The un-nerfed Seymour and Thalior's Staff were easily the most valued items.

Crystal Amulet in more then 500 mana out an umlimted number of times. Tedra was able to cast 0x to 10x in 3 days under the old system.

Unlimited imbeds of any spell from any cricle.

The Pallbearers would have been fairly valuable as well.

The hours($) you used to need to put in was crazy. I made hundreds of millions back in AOL days, but ultimately lost money when paying 6.95+ an hour. I vaguely remember stories of Thalior spending $15k-$20k just paying Simu for hours. So the value of his items are relative to the times.

That's pretty weak. And also another reason why buying high end items like that for insane amounts of silver/cash is retarded with the way GMs love to nerf anything that's remotely cool.

That Crystal Ball sounded insanely overpowered before it got nerfed... Jesus fuck.

I don't really think a locate/teleport item is overpowered, but I also think GS's travel system is incredibly beef wellington. So beef wellington that even Elton John, Freddy Mercury, and that guy from Fear Factor that spent his 50k on ass implants would say it's beef wellington. An item like Kree's blade would be considered overpowered.

And the ball was nerfed because people were using it to spy on GMs.

I'm not sure if I really buy that. That might be what the GMs told people, but that would have nothing to do with why the cross realm teleporting was nerfed as well. Not to mention it should be relatively easy for them to just make it so it either won't work in a GM's room, or simply make their characters immune to its effect, not much unlike the way Locate Person works. Simu just wanted a reason to nerf it so they made one up most likely, as is usually the case. I'm surprised they didn't just say "It was bugged and should never have worked cross realms or be able to locate someone. It's just a coincidence we did it after it was sold to someone else, honest!"

Do you really expect someone with the most fame, experience and close to the richest character in the game to be modest? I may roleplay being an arrogant jerk because of my status, but most of my friends know that it's all an act and i'm in fact a very generous person.

In my experience GMs usually only nerf the old powerful stuff once a new owner starts abusing the shit out of it. Enegue's and Kree's swords were mentioned. They were never nerfed because they had responsible owners. Thalior's old stuff wasn't nerfed when the original still owned them. Those immolation weapons were released in more modern times and were only nerfed after Nanna abused hers every which way possible during storylines and invasions.

If people would buy the old cool stuff and then have some common sense in how they use them, they would be able to keep most of them with their old properties intact. Not everything for sure, but most of it.

that's one of the problems with the high end stuff though. If you can afford some rediculously cool item that Simu will never make again, you have to look over your shoulder any time you use it, in case a GM happens to be watching and wants to snatch it up and nerf it.

There should be rediculously over powered items in a fantasy game. It's a fantasy game, not Sim Middle Earth. Huge new items would bring all sorts of excitement to GS, and give something for people to strive for.

Methais
08-22-2006, 12:11 AM
But then everyone that doesn't have one of the huge new items would cry about it and then the GMs would nerf them into uselessness. The problem is that GS has too many unique high end items. High end stuff should be hard to get, but still available to anyone who wants to put forth the effort to attain it. Unique items really have no place in MMOs these days.

Mostly cause I'm never rich so can't imagine spending everything I have on one item. I think the most I ever had at one time was eight mill, can't get much with that. but Fremie's had it for about or 6 years now, and told me personally I'd have to pry it from his cold, dead fingers. I'm still waiting for him to keel over.

He bought it for a steal from under me too...a bunch of these crazily scripted Arkati symbols were released, I know at least of a Luukos one.

I dont remember what it was called but Boomsplat won a set of damage padded scale armor, then had merchant work done to boost the padding up, then won merchant work to had it changed to full plate. So he ended up with a set of very heavily damage padded plate. QQ. Im pretty sure he even had it lightened to the limit. This was probably about 2-3 years ago at one of the festivals. Was the first time they did the armor conversions.

Any self mana AS boosters. I didn't need DS, I just needed more melee AS. Sorrow would have been big pimping if it worked, any 10x weighted 2h/polearm would have been money to me as well. Maybe some better armor, 4x VHCP LBP is good but there is always a sweeter set out there.

I think you're getting the symbols mixed up. The one Fremie has is like my Zelia one. It was released during the 2000 Foehn's Promise. They have like a CRAPLOAD of scripts on them.

The ones from the Monthly Raffles don't have a huge amount of scripts like that one does. There are each unique and have different sayings for each Arkati when you RAISE it. Really awesome item.

yeah that familiar ring is really nice. Too bad I don't have any wizards.

I believe 1 humanoid shape was released for each armor class (I vaguly remember the full plate one going for 160 million at the auction) If I remember correctly they were 5x, padded, weighed less than 2lbs, and obsured your entire inventory so you could only see the shape when you looked at the person. Nifty items.

I always wanted Dart's crystal ball. Especially after he used it to save my ass during one of the House Arcane hunts up in pinefar. How much is it worth now that it's nerfed so badly?

Of course, I always wanted a locate item and there's only three that I know of.. a scroll that lets you invoke it 3x/day, dart's ball, and Kali's hand mirror (which also did the same thing dart's ball did I believe). Of course now that I play a paladin, I'll be able to locate oh.. probably 6 months from now if I don't quit GS again lol.

As for the ball, did Dart create that himself when he was a GM? Or did he have it before he was a GM? I remember reading all sorts of rumors about him abusing GM powers for this and that, but I don't remember what exactly he supposedly did, or if any of them were true.

So very true my friend.

People with high-end (unique) items will perpetually say that it adds character to the game, and people who don't have them will perpetually think its unfair.

Personally, I started playing just after the conversion off AOL, though I've taken years at a time off. So if I had actually put the time into the game for all those years and still didn't have anything, I would be pretty pissed off too.

In my opinion, people paying the same money and putting in the same time should get just as much reward. Just imagine how many people have quit the game because of the time they put in with no reward.

Yes roleplay is the main objective, but that only gets you so far. I can only sit there and watch other people play around with insane items so long before lust takes over.

Though Dart did abuse his powers (As did other GMs at that time) He won the ball during one of the hot summer nights auctions I believe. (Most likely before he became a GM)

Of course, it's within GMs rules for them to create items for their own characters, as long as they don't sell/lend them out and such.

There's still some GM favoritism and such that goes on today, but it's not at all like it used to be.

the Thingul diamond would be another nice item to have (did that ever get returned to the owner?) and those laen keys are nice (who has the other one besides Ardwen?)

Right.

So you're average Joe, level 40 lets say. You would really love one of those elemental bows. So the best players can make upwards of 150k an hour, so lets say average Joe makes 75k an hour. Elemental bows, or anything you would call high-end, would go for what now, 150m? Simple math... thats 2000 hours of gameplay. You think thats even remotely doable? I'd say no.

StrayRogue
08-25-2006, 02:29 PM
So? Why should everything be gained easily? The best players get to be the best players by investing more time (or money) and hence see better gains than average Joe. The entire point of these items is that average Joe doesn't have them. Hence why they are special, unique, cool.

Secondly, what stops a level 40 (or level 1) character from merchanting their way to 150 mil?
