OK, I am having alot of trouble finding certain things in the game. I propose we start this thread off to help each other in finding the exact rooms to forage in, or the best places to find gems or creatures.

So to start out, would anyone care to tell me which room in Melgorehn's Valley will have yellow water lily's? Or would be willing to procure some for me?

Thanks

Asha

And anyone know which room in OTF has Ivy?

Nilandia

Don't have information on the lily, unfortunately.

Forage Syntax: ivy
Other Names: --
Category: Vines and Parasitics
Primarily Found: Wehnimer's Landing, Solhaven, Elven Nations
Also Found: Ta'Illistim
Climate: Temperate
Terrain: Grassland, Hilly, Mountainous

As a guess, there's a river on the northeast side of the lesser burrow orc area. I'd imagine water lilies would be found there as opposed to on the arid plains.

yeah i tried each room until I got the Your not even sure it can be found here. Then moved to another room, I tried all the ones on the far east side to no avail. After 40 minutes I got tired.

Thanks Nilandia. The UFS doesn't work for me even when downloaded straight into the wizards script folder.

Post the exact messaging you got? If it tells you that you're not even sure where it may be found, then you're using the wrong syntax. If you get the message that it can't be found in that climate/terrain, you're using the right syntax, but the wrong room.

You forage around but find nothing of interest.
Roundtime: 6 sec.
Roundtime changed to 2 seconds.
>forage lily

d100(Open): 94
As you carefully forage around you can find no hint of what you are looking for. You are not even sure it could be found here.
Roundtime: 6 sec.
Roundtime changed to 2 seconds.
>stand

Also, the [Melgorehn's Crossing, Riverbank] through the trail, lists as part of the landing.

UGH - your syntax got me thinking so I tried water lily. It worked.
Such a stupid difference. You would think lily itself would work. Anyway I found them at the waterfall if anyone needs to know. Different colors etc..

>forage for yellow water lily
d100(Open): 181
You forage briefly and manage to find a yellow water lily!
Roundtime: 6 sec.
Roundtime changed to 2 seconds.

Yeah, for whatever reason it never works with just the noun. If I forage for "moss", I won't find "basal moss". I have to forage for basal moss specifically.

yea, for things that have a color and a two word name you need to forage for all three things... Water lilies for example come in about 4-5 different colors.

Big pain in the balls... If yer not getting the terrain or climate message when ya fail, chances are yer not typing it in right.

There's a map with all the climates and terrains out there. Where the fuck is it, I was just looking at it this afternoon when I was pondering my zMapper dreams.

None of my chars save for the cleric have ever been saturated EVAR. Making coin, and just leveled.

I think I just peed a little.

Okay, Rambling Meadows in Ta'Vaalor, foraging for trollfear mushrooms. Syntax being used is 'forage for trollfear mushroom'. Nada. Been going room by room, with usually the routine 'You forage around but find nothing of interest' message. I don't suppose anyone could steer me to what PART of Rambling Meadows this freakin' mushroom hangs out in?

BTW, have had to kill the fearsome grizzly bobcat, and help a lost child, both of which were pretty easy..having fun, and yes, saturated is an entirely new feeling. :tumble:

Any OTFers make a list of where certain herbs/flower/etc can be foraged in OTF?

You need to continue foraging until you get a thorough messaging stating whether or not you have the right climate or terrain. The syntax you are using is fine, but if you are stopping at 'You forage around but find nothing of interest' then you are not foraging long enough.

For those of you looking for monkeyflower in Old Ta'F, it can be found in the location right in front of the cottage in the west woods, and the four in the back garden as well.

Anjelica root grows in the 3 or 4 rooms right outside the cottage door in OTF, as well.

Its going well so far, except for the request for my purely casting self to kill a couple dozen constructs. Traded that in and got the amazing opportunity to collect 6 umber sards. Might I mention that in many years of playing I have yet to ever find an umber sard?

I ponder if that Taskmaster has a bit of a sadistic side.

I'm going to start a list of where herbs are found in OTF for fun. So far I have found these:

Calamia fruit and sovyn clove can be found in the small area west of the first crossroad. (From the portal - ne, ne,ne,n,n,n,n,w,nw,nw)

Honeysuckle vine can be found in Ta'Faendryl North.

Basal moss can be found in the east woods.

Pink begonia and large sunflowers are found in the cottage garden, niche. Over by the west wood area.

It's been posted on the officials, but I'll add it here. EK, the author of the UFS, responded to the posting of the UFS:

"AHAHAHAHA, I told you all, FORAGING PWNS! SMBBD!

The UFS' most current version is located at:
http://gs.coyotek.com/ufs/

It'll be up there for a good long while in case anyone wants to mirror it. It is the last updated version, which might or might not be the same that was linked earlier.

If anyone wants all of my foraging data (SENSE logs of about 99% of the game, worksheets of a lot of the plants' climate/terrain setting for various regions in the game), I can send it to you. Lemme know at ek@coyotek.com, or AIM at 'nitewyvern'."

The current incarnation of the UFS is v1.15, where the one mirrored on my Geocities page is v1.14. v1.15 only comes in a Wizard format (which may be updated to SF if I get time) but includes the following new information.

v1.15 - Added magical woods to the Trees section. Added magical woods entries with provided web information and relative enchant data. Added confirmed climate/terrain/region listings for plants found in Icemule, Pinefar, Solhaven, Ta'Illistim, and Teras. Added some 620 plant information. Added additional information about day/night availability for some plants. Added additional minor information about moonflowers.

Crimson dragonstalk, also in that same cottage area.

For those who're going by SENSE locations in the UFS, the location outside the cottage, and the back yard of the cottage, are Temperate Grassland. The West woods in general are Temperate Deciduous.

If you are hunting and come across a GRIZZLED creature, and it's not for your task.. please don't kill it. That's happened to me twice now.. and after killing a bunch of the creatures to draw out the special one, it fucking sucks to get 6 points for a task because someone didn't leave the GRIZZLED one alone.

TheEschaton
08-12-2006, 05:12 PM
But you still get the experience (which is why I'm doing it). Still took me to saturated....but then again, I was almost numbed from hunting all the creatures anyways.

I got wtfpwned by a grizzled seer on one of my tasks earlier today. Geezum crow, the thing annhilated me.

Question: For heirloom quests, what's the deal? Was told an Ithizir seer had the thing, been killing seers (and only seers) for the past 20 minutes, nada.

Will it be in a box from a seer?

Do I need to kneel and search for better results?

-TheE-

Kitsun
08-13-2006, 12:53 AM
It should be on a seer that you kill and loot. Some of the darn things take way too long to pop out.

If I can't get an heirloom in one hunt, I just turn it in for another damn quest. I generally prefer the kill quests.

TheEschaton
08-13-2006, 01:11 AM
Been hunting war griffins for about half an hour, not one of them has had the heirloom.

Musta killed about 25 of them suckers.

-TheE-

Kitsun
08-13-2006, 01:15 AM
There's two kinds of heirloom fetching quests.

If they're sentient and smart enough to enjoy shiny objects then the creature should be carrying it around.

If they're animalistic then the item is somewhere in the hunting ground, you have to kneel and SEARCH for it. So the item you seek won't be found on a griffin.

Jolena
08-13-2006, 01:19 AM
If you type bounty it will tell you if you need to LOOT or SEARCH for it as well.

TheEschaton
08-13-2006, 01:30 AM
You've got to be kidding, right? You want me to KNEEL in Old Ta'F and search for a flippin' thing?

But then I don't have to kill the griffins?

-TheE-

Jolena
08-13-2006, 01:47 AM
Not only do you have to kneel, if you are assigned to SEARCH, but you have to do it without anything in your hands at all. Have fun with that one.

Edited to add that if you have a SEARCH task you do not have to kill creatures.

Obvious paths: north, south, northwest

You scan your surroundings, considering the various flora and fauna found here (and noting those which are absent). The indications of the temperate climate and the hilly terrain are clearly evident to your seasoned eye. You don't see any other paths leading away from the area.

Quite a few people are asking me how much it costs to charge up your enhancive once you have added the bonus.

It costs 16500 points to charge a +10 bonus enhancive once.. That's 82500 points to charge a single max enhancive slot up to full 5 charges.. Additional slots will most likely cost the same which would be 247500 for all three ability slots to be charged to full once unlocked... I hope they last a while for that many points!
