Can someone throw out your basic, cookie-cutter training plan for an archer who just happens to be a ranger? Any asides are appreciated also.

2x ranged
2x ambush
1x physical
2x stalking
2x perception

then go for your wanted armor/spells etc

And strength affects your RT, Dex affects your AS - just in case .. :P

As an aside, anyhow know the formula for how much perception and ambush add to your attack? Are they both skill/4?

2x ambush is far from normal. Most rangers do 1x ambush 2x perception.

What about Dodging and Combat Maneuvers?

If it were me, I'd try more of the following.

2x ranged
1x ambush
1x PF
2x stalk/hide
2x perception
1x armor ( personal preference to 70 ranks for augmented chain )
1x spell
1x Harness
1x survival
1x SMC/MIU/AS ( goal at 75 to have 25 ranks in each )
.75x dodge
.5 climb/swim ( goal set for 25 ranks )

CM is iffy. Personally, I'd get 30 ranks to get 4 ranks in shadowmastery.

Precisely the sort of information I was hoping for. Thanks for weighing in.

You're lucky. Normally I'd laugh at even talking about archery and ranger in the same sentence without the work fuck in it.

Also, don't fret if you can't fit it all in immediately, with proper stat growth you'll be able to even it in ( fucking ) lores.

Can tell what I think of them, too. :)

Why hate them?
I think they rock.

I simply think they are NOT worth the TP's to a Ranger besides post cap. This is a biased opinion, because I don't use any spells besides 608 much, and am a strong advocate for more physical builds.

Depends on if you wanna go sniping or open archery..

My ranger does open archery, and has the basic skills:

2x Ranged
2x Perception
1x Armor (up to 30 for brig, might get into chain at some point in time)
1x PF (goal is either complete 1x or stopping at 30)
1x Dodge
1x First Aid
1x Survival
1x Harness Power (to level, not level +1)
1x Spells (currently a bit over, due to wanting to get to 103 asap)
1x Spirit Lore (goal of 55 Summoning, 35 Blessing by cap)
.5x Climbing/Swimming (goal of 35 at cap)
.5x Arcane Symbols & MIU (goal of 40 ranks by cap)
.25x Spirit Mana Share

CMans: Either 45 or 90 at cap, MFire and possibly sweep
Trading: Need to pick up a bit due to crappy influence bonus (until I get a stat reallocation potion from the bounty system)
Possibly a bit of MoC, for the FoF factor (due to being an open archer)

Again, this is just how my ranger goes....probably nothing cookie-cutter about it. :)

It is my opinion (regardless of profession) that lores should definitely wait till at least mid level to cap (66ish), as the benefit from them is minimal at best till you can afford to really pump them up. I have seen way too many folks try and do their lores at lower levels ... and for what benefit if any?

Just my opinion.

I have to disagree with you there. Lores come in handy for either imbuing rods or casting resist nature on armor, depending on which you train in. I know I can't provide as much resistance on armor as Regyy, not having as many lore ranks as he does, but what I am able to put on has kept me alive more than once. I do 1X in lores without ever having problems with not having enough points to follow my training path.
