Can you keep track of the hundreds of verbs available to your character? Of course not! Your mind is taken up with far more important things, like what goes with bloodstains.

We suggest something puce.

So how much would you expect to pay for a quality list of verbs? 100,000 silvers? 50,000? How about NOTHING!

That's right, as part of your GemStone IV subscription we're giving you ABSOLUTELY FREE a list of all the verbs in the game! Except for a couple that we think would just clutter up the list. And some you can't access. And maybe a couple others where we just want to mess with you. LOOK's in there, though. And ATTACK. Definitely ATTACK.

And if you act now, we'll throw in an indication of which verbs work with VERB INFO and HELP at NO EXTRA CHARGE!

Actually, we'll throw that in whenever you act. It's no skin off our back. You know, digitally speaking.

So look at VERB LIST today, before it goes out of style! See what we did there, with the reference to style in the first paragraph? Pretty good, eh? Eh?

And it was in 1998. Do try to keep up.

I tried this out. After finding two verbs that weren't recognized by the game in verb list a alone, it sort of lost its luster. Ildran's still P I M P though.

I've used procrastinate for the longest time...

It shows you muttering something, then shrugging your shoulders. One of my standby verbs.

>proc
You realize there are some important matters you should tend to . . . later.

Redress, xghost and zone.

None of these verbs exist.

I am certain they do, but that coding has been touched up for some time as to no longer script:

>hello!
Please rephrase that command./I don't understand what you typed.

Vs. something like:

>redress
I don't understand what you typed./redress what?/blank

I guess if you're bored or weird enough, you can spend hours entering random strings of text until you find some dead or GM verbs that aren't 100% squelched to the general public.

I miss SHIFT...

Anyway, we all know the best damn verb is CHORTLE! :D

Whats that one verb that only the GM's can see when you do it?

Thats certainly possible with todays scripting code. One interesting thing I’ve noticed about GS is that single letters can activate commands, and single letters can be used to identify objects. Other games I’ve played don’t allow that, using two or three character minimums to avoid abuse. For example, I can walk into a room and type l a, l b, l c... on through the alphabet to discover any objects/exits in the room.

I've got a tap script that does that.

So for the *real gem* search. Write a short script for looking at the first 10 or so G's in the room, and see what you get.

A script that doubles, triples then quadruples the alphabet and all the combinations is necessary because you get into multiple objects in the same room including yourself, everything you are wearing, and everything in your open containers. In GS, that is.

Actually, I’m wrong. Because of GS’s use of ‘second’, ‘third’, ‘fourth’ etc... a script to check for all objects in each room would be quite easy. How far up the count does it go?

Oh duh, to try and find all the verbs you would have to have a script that finds all the four letter combinations of the alphabet, if not five or six which I’m pretty sure is near impossible.

A script could easily generate every combination of letters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 characters long.

It would just be 99% useless because far more nonexistent combinations exist.

God forbid Simutronics publish a book/guide with all the available commands in it.

Yet another marketing/revenue opportunity missed.

I absolutely remember reading this idea on the official boards as something seemingly viable around the time when GemStone.net had those cool gemstone images as hyperlink buttons.
