So if you ever wondered what you get when you find a real gem...

I was thinking it's kind of cool

The certificate is sorely lacking, it feels too cheesy/3 seconds in word. The gem is kind of cool, bigger than I thought they'd give you, but I think it needs a case or something that's uniquely gemstone/simu...

I just remember when they came out and I thought they were really cool, now it just seems extremely cheesy. Eh, maybe I'm bitter.

Giving away real gems isn't something they HAVE to do.

I think it's cool they do it at all.

I agree, it is neat that they actually do it, I think I just got a little hung up on the certificate... honestly I would have liked it better not included at all, I mean even Bob's super mathlete whatever certificate had his name written on it at least.

Seriously, it's not like it even takes much work to get one. For typing 'look <place>' and 'get <gem>' that's a pretty good ROI.

Something for nothing is a good rate of return I guess. But the gems are worth just about nothing. You could prolly buy that same gem for 50 cents to a dollar on ebay.

Considering the going rate for "Time invested to aquire this object" that people sell GS stuff on ebay for, and the amount of time you'd have to spend "searching" for a real gem to find one, I'd call it pretty poor ROI wise. No it's not an ROI thing, it's just a random "hey, here's something to perk up your day" which I admit it would make me feel special for a little while... And the occasional time where you look up and see it (I imagine I'd keep mine somewhere near my computer... maybe mod a key on my keyboard to be gem inset :-P ) give you a warm fuzzy.

I'd stick it in the key that had my '\xattack critter\r' macro in it.

It actually took me about 5 seconds to find this gem. I saw the post about real gems being placed, so I used my gold ring to go back to town. The first room I entered (where my ring was set to), I checked the fireplace and wham, a real gem.

I then went to the wayside inn, checked the fireplace, and there was a second real gem. Very little time invested, although I'm sure some do look around quite a bit.

I'm still not sure what I'll do with it. It is cut in a fashion that makes me think of a ring setting.

It does take very little effort to get them and I do agree it would be cool if the case that they gave you had something unique to Simu. Right now, it's just a little plastic case with the gem sitting on some cushy stuffing.

And I think all 5 of my REAL GEM certificates are now in a file folder somewhere, the same place I'll stick the certificate I'll get for the gem I just found in plat.

Is that from the recent output of them?

I didn't get mine yet :(

I got a peridot too. Good lord, I hope it's not pear-cut. Second worst cut ever.

My friend got her emerald the other day. Its a 2.5 carat emerald. Not too shabby.

Got my beautiful emerald cut 1.04 ct peridot in the mail today.

Here's a picture of my slightly crumpled certificate, please forgive me for leaving out the cracked top of my gem container.

http://ibzc.com/misc/gs4/real.jpg (about 1mb, couldn't be bothered resizing it).

>tilt peridot
You tilt your 1.04ct emerald cut peridot side to side, making the light play off it.

>throw peridot
You throw away your 1.04ct emerald cut peridot.
