Killer Kitten

About this time last year my mother went through a bout with colon cancer. She had surgery and a bit of a hospital stay, and the doctors were sure that they had gotten it all. Given that she was 79 and the surgery was so clean they opted not to put her through chemo.
Naturally it came back, and this time it wasn't so clean and easy. This past six weeks has been a nightmare of surgery, hospital stays, coaxing her to eat, persuading her to want to live, discussions of chemotherapy, crying jags, etc. Ironic that I'm the daughter most of this falls to since I'm the one that was thrown out and disowned back when I was a teenager.
Still, times of crisis are when we put the little things aside and deal with the big things. In this case the little things are any things that are not life threatening and the big things are anything that might cause death. Vastly simplifies shit.
Anyway, we're finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. She's starting to act more like her old self again, asking me questions like "Why the hell are you here and where is your sister?" so I know she must be on the mend.
Mostly I'm just really tired, and thought I'd share a picture I took of her the other night. She's holding my cousin's kitten. Hopefully this won't be her last family gathering.
