I dont see a folder for helpful, strategic, or popular links for WoW so I'll start one up. (This would make a good sticky folder.)

Post your favorite links to WoW sites that can help noobs like me get a better grip on how to play.

Especially helpful are guides (profession, class, strategy). Build examples for classes. Instance guides and strategies. Macro and add-on sites where one can find the most l33t add-ons for daily use and raids.

Here's a few links I have:

http://www.worldofwar.net/cartography/index.php
http://mapwow.com/
http://www.goblinworkshop.com/Please feel free to constructively contribute so others on the PC can benefit from your knowledge!

Edited to add:

I'm especially interested in finding the best addon's for interface mods & layout.

For mods, curse-gaming.com is one of the best sites.

I prefer www.uiworldofwar.net for mods.

Also found this little program - its a stand alone with maps and quest/mob info that maps out the location of them. It's teh awesome.

This is a fairly comprehensive pet guide for hunters. http://www.goodintentionsguild.info/petinfo

One of the best sites to date, that and Nien's wow cartography program.

Thanks!

Something of use for those who are still noobs, here's an instance guide that pretty much describes jumping into an instance with a bunch of strangers. Excellent reference on what TO do and what NOT TO do.

Sorry for a late post, but I'm thinking about getting into WoW...kinda scared, being a n00b and all now. I'm wandering where there would be good sites for character builds. I'm looking into a Dwarf, probably hunter, maybe thief, maybe paladin. Not quite sure yet. Anywho any ideas or people able to point me in that such direction?

Except for paladin they're all pretty fun. I had a blast with a rogue and I'm having a good time as a warlock, really I've had fun with every class I've played. Except for paladins. WoW's good times if you play with people you know.

My older sister across the country plays WoW and so I figured I'd give it a chance so I could do something with her. What's wrong with the paladin's they seem like they'd be very beneficial to a party? I'm really really leaning towards a dwarven hunter however. Still looking for some comprehensive character build sites for said dwarven hunter so that I can see some different options. Eventually of course, I wanna be set up for massive PvP raiding, but I think it'd be best to start out PvE until I get to 60 or so. Then again I'm totally new to this, and I haven't even gone out and bought it yet, although I will be doing so shortly after the 28th (payday)!

Heh, there's not really any such thing as massive PvP raiding. There's basically three ways you can go as a character, and there are a few cookie cutter builds for each - PvP, PvE, and then a mixture of both. PvP is what you go if you're trying to get rank 14, PvE is what you do if you're trying to do the end game content, and the mixture of both is usually what you go for when you're levelling up or doing tier 0 instances.

You probably won't play your first character to 60, try a bunch of classes and find one that you like. Also, WoW doesn't really cater to the mutant, so you won't be a successful sword-using mage.

The main issue with paladins is how boring they can be in some (most) [all] people's opinion. You basically right-click once on the bad guy, maybe refresh a seal on yourself or throw one at the baddie. My first guy was a Paladin, got him up to 50. He's sat at 50 for over a year now, unplayed.

Rogues are a blast, and my hunter is pretty fun too. Right now I'm playing a priest which I didn't think I'd like (I hate playing casters) but as soon as I got to level 12, he pwned hard.

You can make up to 10 characters on a server, up to 50 characters total on your account. I suggest you try all of the classes you're interested in.

As for servers, if you want to start on PvE/RP server, we have a few people who play nightly on Argent Dawn (roleplaying server) if you don't like your sister's server.

Just started WOW myself (sold the GS accounts at last) and am having a blast playing a hunter. Got hold of the Titan UI but theres just one thing thats irritating about it. Got the add on bar at the bottom of the screen but when my pet bar is active it obscures the bottom line of the chat window , so im forever behind the conversation (nothing new there) but is there a way of fixing it ?

Cheers

Do yourself a big, huge favor.. use Blizzard's UI and get used to it.

Otherwise, enjoy spending an hour or two every patch fixing everything before you play.

I recently got into WoW myself for the first time playing a hunter as well, and I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of where I can read up on how to make long macros, kinda like scripts in GS with waits, matches etc. Or are macros like macros in GS where they're really meant as two or three quick actions linked together per macro.

Thanks.

Forget those strategy guides.

One thing to remember and I'll quote from Blizzard's website:

"DO NOT GROUP WITH DAR WHILST ATTEMPTING ANY INSTANCE UNLESS YOU WANT EVERY INCH OF PIXELATED FLESH RIPPED OFF OF YOUR TOON DUE TO EXCESSIVE SHAMAN AGGRO"

Here's a list of hunter macros that people have put up for grabs:

http://ui.worldofwar.net/listmacros.php?type=6

There are a slew of other macros on that site as well.

Right click the tab that says "General" when you mouse over the chat window.
Click on "unlock window."
Move window by clicking and dragging the tab.
Lock window in the same way as unlocking it.

Bad if you want to experience the game, good if you want to level up fast.

It sounds like you have an add on that automatically accepts invites for you.

You can either:

a) Find out which add on it is and turn that feature off.
or
b) Just continue accepting, then when the gold farmer does their stuff, right click on their name in the chat window and "report spam". This means that not only are they reported for spamming, but they are also added to your ignore list for the rest of your session in the game, along with any alts they make on their account.

Do you happen to have any WoW gold for sale yet? I sure could use some, and money means nothing to me.
