I'm not quite sure where to post this but I was wondering if anyone knew why this blazestar is so odd.

For starters when you look at it the show is...

Peering closely at the azure blazestar you notice black clouds swirling within the gem's walls.

A normal blazestar looks like this...

Even in its uncut state, the blazestar shines with a fire fit to rival and defeat even the most precious diamond. Rather than responding properly to the ambient light, the magical brilliance in the viridian jewel's heart scintillates with a heartbeat rhythm of its own, flaring and failing roughly once every two minutes. Each time the jewel's fire blazes high, dozens of tiny green flecks spring into existence in the center of the stone and work their way slowly outward until they glimmer into nonexistence. Then, they are reborn at the blazestar's center with the next fiery pulse.

But the other odd thing about it is when I had a bard look at it they found it wasn't further purifiable and then when they sung to it they found that when seeking its purpose you get this message...

From the pitch of the vibration you determine that the purpose of the blazestar is as a decorative one, perhaps. You are not sure exactly.

I'm not sure I catch your meaning

I thought your deal with the blazestars might be the notion that the "fire" burning within them might resemble the reddish blaze of a typical flame.

I was sort of getting the mental image of a more, "I just lit a non-recyclable heap of plastic on fire and am trying not to breathe in too many of the fumes" lime flame, rather.

Bah - I thought your beef was with the show/description.

And what have ye.

Try and sell it at the gemshop. I think it is a random alter/boxfind.

Has it been used as a chism gem?

Have it appraised at the gemshop and see if he'll offer you coin for it or if he says its a magical item.

>app blaze
You ask the gemcutter to appraise an azure blazestar.
The gemcutter says, "That's not quite my field, Iaz. I only deal in gems and jewelry."

And although the term chism gem seems to be familiar I can't seem to recall exactly what that is. But the gem is straight off of a creature, or out of a box..can't remember which.

Chrism gems are made by clerics with their 325 spell.

Are orb/rechargable gems sellable at the gemshop (and would they have a different type of description from normal gems)?

Ahh, that's right. Obviously slipped my mind.

They identify exactly the same as a normal gem, the only way to tell the difference is to have a bard sing to them.

[Normal]
You tap a shard of rainbow quartz, which is in your right hand.

From stem to stern, this triangular shard of quartz displays every color of the rainbow along its rough length. The surfaces are unpolished, but the changes of hue that proceed in wide, striped bands along its length that have a certain appeal despite the damaged state of the broken crystal.

You ask the gem dealer to appraise a shard of rainbow quartz.
The gem dealer takes the rainbow quartz and inspects it carefully before saying, "I'll give you 1237 for it if you want to sell."

[Rechargeable/Orb]

The only difference is when you loresing to it:

From the pitch of the vibration you determine that the purpose of the quartz is as a gem of some kind. As you sing, the quartz seems to resonate with your voice, and you feel it trying to draw power from you. It pulses strongly with the rhythm of your words.

The underlined part of the message shows it as an orb gem, the bold part of the message means it's a mage rechargeable.

If it can't be sold at the gemshop, I'd imagine it's a random alter some bored GM put into the treasure hopper.

Also, did you come across it being a critter drop... Or somewhere else?

Like I said earlier, I can't remember if it was dropped directly by a creature or whether it was in a box.

How well trained was the bard? I'd get it lore-sung again for starters.

:D

I had a pearl once that the gemshop wouldn't buy. It turned out to be a mage rechargable bravery item.

Bard was in his 70's i believe, so I'm fairly certain that the singing wasn't the problem.
