Next weekend, I'm going with my family to Vegas for a week. I'm under 21 so I can't drink, but over 18 so I can (I think) gamble, assuming I can get into casinos. Where should I go/what should I do/other tourist questions?

You can't gamble at 18 in Vegas.

Yup, you are.

There actually might be a shitty place somewhere that you can gamble at 18. SpunGirl would probably know the deal, she works in Vegas I think.

There is a ton to do in Vegas, outside of gambling.

And despite what everyone says, it's actually very easy to gamble when you're under 21. I did it when I was 18 and I never had a problem. Plus I look VERY young. Keep in mind these casino's are taking you're money so they're going to let you give it to them unless you give them a reason not to. There are certain casinos you should avoid of course, but in general as long as you're smart about it you'll be fine.

As for what else you can do, there are a TON of clubs, many of which are 18+. There are shows, themed restraunts, and each casino is an attraction in of itself. I've been quite a few times so I can offer a good list of things to do. By no means do I claim to be an expert on the city, but rather a frequent visitor.

If they check ID.

Far as I’m concerned, if you can join the service and go die for your country, you should have all the other amenities available.

This'd be appreciated. I'm not sure how much time I'll have away from the rest of the family, but I assume I'll be able to go off by myself pretty much whenever I want.

For some reason I always thought Artha was over 21. Interesting.

Yes, that is a compliment.

That's my sentiment exactly. I got married in Vegas when I was 20 and couldn't buy a drink to celebrate.

Actually, the legal drinking age was originally set at 21 back in the 1930's when Roosevelt, yes, a democrat, was president. During the Vietnam war, several states lowered it from anywhere between 18-20. Due to teens crossing state lines, among other problems, in 1984 it was set back to 21. There are still exceptions to this today.

Guess who doesn't have all the facts.

Try changing it to "If you DO join the service because you're willing to go die for your country and not ride some fucking coat tails then you should have all the other amenities."

and I might agree with you. What's that you say? You want me to put forth some effort in order to get something back?! Crazy talk, I demand I get all the spoils with none of the effort.

TEH AWESOME DEMOCRATS????????

Almost every post of yours has to do with politics. The thread is about Vegas and whether or not he can gamble at 18, and you turn it into a partisan argument over the legal drinking age.

You are the one to bring up politics in this thread. I was just espousing my own personal beliefs.

Good luck Artha. What ever you do, it stays there.

Actually, the purchasing alcohol age was set to 21 in 1984, not the drinking age. There are no exceptions to this.

lol semantics.

Please, get back on topic. Artha asked for suggestions as to what he might do while in Las Vegas with his family.

if you've got any cash laying around. hook yourself up with a massage at one of teh hotel spas. Most places you get use of the spa for the day, and the massage is kick ass.

Also, there are tons of sweet restaurants in Vegas. you can pick out some good ones in advance and check those out. bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck, Emeril, etc. if you like the popular stuff. plenty of better ones out there.

Here's a nice little guide.

Be sure and ask for a 'happy ending'.

Ya, get a cab/bus ride outside of Vegas and find a hooker ranch. I'm sure they have some kind of 3-some special.

Please don't take the retarded advice of attempting to gamble underage. If you get caught, the GCB will be called. If the agent who responds is in a bad mood, you will be arrested. Even if you're not, the casino may decide to kick you (and your family) out of the hotel (if you do this in a casino where you're registered guests). Not exactly a stellar trip to Vegas.

On the upside, there are lots of boobs shows you only have to be 18 to go see. There are rides on top of the Stratosphere. Just sitting there watching people can be extremely entertaining. On the other hand, it's fucking hot here and you won't want to walk around a ton. So bring a book and sit in the swimming pool, then walk around at night after the sun goes down.
Try to avoid the undocumented workers passing out pr0n flyers.
