So starting a new rogue, and I'm trying to figure out how to use the TP & stat maximizer. I feel as if everyone is all for maximizing TP's, but I don't see how it can be fun when you end up putting 20 in str and con, and having 20 less AS for 60 levels. does it really matter that much?

also, do I really need to learn 403 and 404? I feel as if i'll save a lot more TP's if i just buy 403 and 404 imbeds/scrolls and use those on myself. Will I keep the same benefit if i'm a rogue?

I set stats for max TP's because I wanted more skillz for my level. Some folks go for a balance or even max stats. Which in the very long run you'll be able to make up for TP's with post cap exp gain and training. I just dont know if I'll keep playing Ganalon heavily post cap.

You dont have to learn 403/404 to be a rogue. You can get by picking like level boxes with 2x training and some lore enhancement from magical items. Just remember the bonus for non self cast lore is 50%. Self cast lore is 100%.

It all basically depends on how you wish to play the rogue.

I play my rogue to be an effective hunter and a superb picker. I can do that because I've chosen an efficient training plan and have had the extra TP's to acquire the skill ranks.

Some people play a pure hunting rogue with no picking, all combat skills. They're quite fearsome out in the field, but are quite useless while resting unless they're into pocket lightening or working on artesian skills.

Others play a magical rogue with learned spells in both 100 and 400 circle, which can boost AS insanely high.

Thats the cool thing about being a rogue. Its a versitile profession so you can go either way.

Depends.

When I rolled Edaarin in III, I placed LOG/INT insanely high because I wanted to maximize exp gain, at the cost of STR. When we moved to GSIV, he dropped to like level 61, and I never imagined I'd cap so I placed my stats for reasonable growth. In retrospect I really wish I had placed STR, AGI and DEX a little lower.

Starting:

Strength (STR): 70
Constitution (CON): 70
Dexterity (DEX): 80
Agility (AGI): 70
Discipline (DIS): 73
Aura (AUR): 82
Logic (LOG): 73
Intuition (INT): 65
Wisdom (WIS): 57
Influence (INF): 20

When I cap:

Strength (STR): 100
Constitution (CON): 100
Dexterity (DEX): 100
Agility (AGI): 100
Discipline (DIS): 100
Aura (AUR): 100
Logic (LOG): 100
Intuition (INT): 100
Wisdom (WIS): 74
Influence (INF): 64

That WIS really hurts, it's basically 13 TD that I'm missing out on. Might not sound like a lot, but it can mean the difference between a missed and a hit weapon fire.

Edaarin (at level 98), your current skill bonuses and ranks (including all modifiers) are:
Skill Name | Current Current
| Bonus Ranks
Armor Use..........................| 180 80
Shield Use.........................| 200 100
Combat Maneuvers...................| 299 199
Edged Weapons......................| 300 200
Ambush.............................| 300 200
Physical Fitness...................| 200 100
Dodging............................| 300 200
Arcane Symbols.....................| 105 25
Harness Power......................| 25 5
Disarming Traps....................| 352 252
Picking Locks......................| 375 275
Stalking and Hiding................| 300 200
Perception.........................| 300 200
Climbing...........................| 105 25
Swimming...........................| 105 25

Spell Lists
Minor Elemental....................| 4
Training Points: 7 Phy 15 Mnt

Basically has the highest AS a Human rogue can self-generate, and while not necessary it makes things a lot easier. It comes at the cost of spells and tertiary abilities. Can pick and disarm pretty much everything that comes out, although I need to still pick up another 23 ranks so that I can more reliably get the -480 traps. You can get by with 2x and no lore until around level 30 at least.

IIRC stone gargoyles had locks in the mid 500s, and that might be the turning point for lore. I know Stronghold boxes (mystics and shaman) usually peak out at around -730ish.

Don't rely on scrolls. They're not as effective as self-cast lores, and you don't want to become dependent on other people to find them/sell them/infuse them. With the amount of AS you need to invest to get a higher % of the bonus you would get self cast from spells, you may as well take a few hits somewhere else and get 403/404.

The last alternative is extremely time consuming, and not one I would follow personally. There's a capped rogue that's mastered all the guild skills including LM that has a shit ton of disarm skill, but dropped all his picking in the interest of popping and wedging all his boxes. There's always that route.

This where I started.....

Strength (STR): 68
Constitution (CON): 70
Dexterity (DEX): 60
Agility (AGI): 60
Discipline (DIS): 78
Aura (AUR): 83
Logic (LOG): 73
Intuition (INT): 61
Wisdom (WIS): 82
Influence (INF): 25

And this is what they look like at 93....placed for stat growth

Race: Half-Elf Profession: Rogue (shown as: Scoundrel)
Gender: Male Age: 87 Expr: 6903769 Level: 93
Normal (Bonus) ... Enhanced (Bonus)
Strength (STR): 100 (25) ... 100 (25)
Constitution (CON): 96 (23) ... 96 (23)
Dexterity (DEX): 98 (29) ... 98 (29)
Agility (AGI): 100 (35) ... 100 (35)
Discipline (DIS): 99 (19) ... 99 (19)
Aura (AUR): 100 (25) ... 100 (25)
Logic (LOG): 98 (24) ... 98 (24)
Intuition (INT): 97 (23) ... 97 (23)
Wisdom (WIS): 93 (21) ... 93 (21)
Influence (INF): 68 (14) ... 68 (14)

Well, I suppose there's always RP, or grabbing a room at Silvergate.

Teehee. I spend my time when I'm not hunting either RPing with Stun and friends or doing guild. Or working on ALAE stuff. Or stocking the shops..or doing things with Elanthian Elegance.

you definitely don't need to place them that low anyway if you want to maximize TP's. since you'll be converting so many mental points to physical, each physical point is effectively equal to 2 mental points, so you can place your physical stats highly. here's a quick run of from http://home.mchsi.com/~cphillips73/StatCruncher/StatCruncher.html for a half-elf rogue, maximized for the most PTPs:

CO 88
DE 79
DI 88
LO 21
IN 20
ST 85
AG 80
IF 69
WI 39
AU 91

now, you probably don't want IN and LO stats so low, so you can adjust accordingly, but don't think that placing physical stats highly is categorically bad for your character. what i do is use the stat maximizer to show what the placement should be to make the highest stats at level 100, then reduce some of the mental so they are 70-80 at cap, and use those stats as minimums on the TP maximizer. this provides a balance, I think.

hope that all made sense.
