View Full Version : Four robbers, one ex-marine, guess who died?
ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- A former Marine cook used a pocketknife to fend off a group of would-be robbers, killing one and wounding another, police said.
Thomas Autry, who authorities said will not be charged, was walking home from his job waiting tables Monday night when four people got out of a car and chased him, Atlanta police detective Danny Stephens said. One attacker had a shotgun, and another had a pistol.

Fuck dude.
That's awesome.
Hero, no doubting. He's probably stopped a lot of people being robbed / killed by the victims and the charged.
Glad he had his knife with him. But I'm still completely against carrying them.
I used to carry a pocket knife but don't anymore, it's legal but cops hassle you about it if you get pulled over for a traffic violation and I think if you carry it basically eliminates any chance of getting off with just a warning.
I didn't ever plan to use it in self defense but it's just convienent with the plastic packaging a lot of things come in these days that's nigh-impossible to open.

Heh, in the UK you can be imprisoned for carrying a knife. They are currently in the process of upping the sentence to 5 years.

Wow, i better not go to the UK.
I always have at least the pocketknife my grandfather gave me.

Yeah I've been reading about some of the knife amnesty programs you brits have been having. A bit nutty from where I stand but it seems like you guys are more behind it. I just think there's a pretty direct correlation between the lack of carry laws over there and the increase in violent crime, but what do I know, I'm just a dumb yank.
And to think its normal to see someone walking around with a 4" folded buck knife in a case on their belt, in this part of the country.
I used to carry a small knife (1"blade - folded) for opening junk. I've got several types of knives in my collection including my favorite (spiderco) that has a pocket clip. I carry that when I'm jogging. My pistol does not come out of the house unless I'm travelling long distances or going hunting/range shooting.

I carry around a benchmade switchblade on my belt at almost all times. I love that knife like my first born and the govt would have to come pry it out of my dead hands.
I'm all for carrying weapons being outlawed. I can guarantee that any weapon I carried would just be turned against me anyhow, becouse I cirtainly am not trained in their use.
Get blades and other weapons off the streets. And even though it doesn't really stop theives fom carrying / using them, at least it's better than saying it's ok to have them.

Your pistol doesn't do you or any other helpless victim any good at home :) and chances are if you're travelling LONG distances you're breaking multiple federal and state laws by taking it with you.
To agree with you however when I used to go jogging bringing a pistol really wasn't practical and I'd carry my 4 inch pocket clipped in the wasteline.

Hehe and on the other end of the spectrum my concealed weapon permit is good for 5 years a time.
And THANK GOD that didn't happen in like California.. they would have tried to give him life in prison. Good for him at any rate.. the punks got what they had coming.

I don't understand why people are all over banning guns, much less pocket knives. A knife is a very commonly used daily tool. But just because some people use them for bad things, doesnt mean they are bad things. You could just as easily rob someone with a tire iron, hell, even your umbrela. They have a much longer reach. If you outlaw them, all you do is give the criminals an advantage, cause they always going to have a way to get them, and they don't give a damn if the item, be it a knife or a gun is outlawed. They are already trying to rob/maim/kill. Who cares about a illegal possesion charge?
/You might as well ban gyms, and working out to get a fit or muscular form. Hey! those guys can be dangerous!! Down with them. /sarcasm

No, this particular skill came from being bored as fuck on guard duty.
Hey you guys carry some nice knives, spiderco and benchmade both make good stuff, I have a Kershaw spring-assisted ("Speed-safe assist") knife that while not as nice as those other brands is a good knife on the lower end of the price spectrum and very easy to open which I like.

Oh, I also carry a CRKT Delihah's P.E.C.K. on my keychain, it weighs less than an ounce, really awesome tiny knife to have with you.

I seriously. LOVE. My benchmade. Its a fully spring loaded, 3 inch blade. I got it from SOC when I was overseas. free 500 buck knife ftw.

I don't carry any weapons or knives on me.. so far no problems.

I love my swiss army pocket knife.. I've had it since I was a 9 year old out playing in the woods. I don't go anywhere without it.. it's good for cutting packaging open and more than once I've had to use the corkscrew for opening bottles. I also own a few tomahawks, some throwing daggers, and a sword. AND I can use them, mwaha. But.. yeah. Still. That's awesome, I'm glad the Marine kicked some ass. Unfortunate that the girl did die, but.. meh, you play the game and you reap what you sow.

I am 100% certain that in many places in the U.S., all individuals involved in a conspiracy to commit X felony, in which a member(s) of any immediate party is/are wounded/killed/etc. as was the case in this particular type of altercation definitely deems a much, much more substantial punishment once the incarceration process takes place.

I agree on the benchmade, I have mine that I took with me and brought back from Iraq. Love it. I also have a Cold Steel SRK that I have had pretty much since I entered the Army. I love that knife, big enough to do some work with and small enough to be useful.
Go Marine...that guy kicks ass.
