View Full Version : Ambushing

I took Ent out hunting last night, and was quickly having a difficult time. When did the ambushing change, that you can't crit critters head/neck area? I was on the mountain around Mule (greater ice giants? can't remember the critter names).
I used to be able to aim for the eye, and kill critters instantly. But now all I can reach on some critters is as high as their chest, making it near impossible to crit kill. :(
If ambushing made that drastic of a change, I may have to retrain her to rely less on ambushing (especially from hiding).

When you consider critters now you get a height. Based on whatever race you are, their height, if they are bi-pedal, and your weapon size (maybe other factors) certain areas are out of reach. If you knock them down you can then reach their heads (and when you consider when they're laying down they are shorter).

Oh no, they changed things to how they used to be. The horror, the horror.
Seriously, how hard is it to sweep or leg something, then kill it?

You hunt a certain way for so long, you get blindsided when it's changed and you know nothing about the changes.
I'm either gonna have to rethink my hunting technique and see how I can use it now, or use fixskills to train a different way.
And yes, sweeping is an option. But some critters can't be swept, some don't have legs to knock them down, etc.

Most of those creatures can be ambushed from standing.
Considering this was the way the system used to work, it's not too drastic of a change.

All the BS'ing aside...if you're smaller than the creature you're hunting, you simply can't hit the head in the first shot. Take a leg, then proceed to take the neck or head. Rogue'ing at it's best.

When they rolled this change back out they gave some benefits to shorter characters... something like 10ds or something? ... granted part of the change also meant if you were shorter you were more likely to get WTFPWNed in the head, but hey... you got 10 ds!

About as hard as preventive oral hygiene.

I'm 99% certain that in no other time in the history of GS were roa'ters too small to ambush as a giant.

Just because certain critters weren't updated doesn't mean that size never was a factor in ambushing.

Did these changes affect Non-BCS creatures?

Sure, size was a factor, and it was always a factor. This isn't "the way it used to be" at all.

They give me some injections to numb the gum so they can remove it. It doesn't work as the infection is so deep.
Your infected Jawline says otherwise.

Wait till everything you try to hunt is too small to ambush. Can't do anything about that.

I hunt cyclops with my rogue. I used to just kill with eye shots but now I have to leg them to bring them to the ground.
You'll adjust.
