I have recently been asked to be on the Board of Directors for a Non-profit organisation. The organisation is refiling their taxes for the past three years at the request of Revenue Canada after an audit. (Rev Can = IRS) Their prior accountant wasn't very good. The President of the Non-Profit assures me that everything is fine and that they have insurance for their board. Does anyone here sit on any boards? Any idea what liabilities I am opening myself up to? I will of course speak to a lawyer before I accept or decline but I wanted to know if anyone here had any personal experience.
