View Full Version : Higher level hunting?

Having played pures for my entire Gemstone III/IV 'career' for the last 10 years or so, I've recently started playing around with some square/semi characters which I seem to be having massive problems with.

I can kill, no worries, I can take hits, not a problem either. But as soon as any of them cast a spell, I'm stuffed. It usually just takes one or two spells and I'm gone. Uphunting is suicide, same level is risky, 10 levels lower and I'm safe, but who the hell wants to underhunt.

I know this is a pretty general question, but wtf? How does everyone survive once you start hitting upper level areas? I don't really see it as a training/profession issue as I seem to have this problem with all of the non-pures that I've played around with.

Spell tanking, going to higher AsG for the CvA, only take on solo mobs, feint, feint, feint, hiding/stalking, know when to run.

Was gonna say feint too. That's what all the squares use to stop vaesps and ithzir I've seen from casting.
Either that or shoot them in the eye very fast.

Its especially hard for squares to hunt OTF, especially without the aid of feint. As a rogue I would rely on hiding and picking off one at a time, but would get WTFPWNND if another caster walked in since spell tanking is NOT an option as a balanced non-casting rogue.

Its way easier to hunt a pure in those areas in my opinion.

Edited to add:
Cman feint is available for rogues. Going to make a small adjustment in my cman training now.

Stop thinking like a pure and standing in front of more than 1 or 2 creatures. Hell, I play a semi and I generally won't fight more than two creatures at a time, and I much prefer just one. To start off just fight one creature and like everyone said feint feint feint.

Yeah, I think that I just need to get out of the pure mindset, especially in places like OTF and Bowels where they swarm like noones business.

I really can't think of anything specific I'm doing wrong, except getting swarmed by them during RT.

Thanks for the advice.
