Researching pending/ongoing litigation

Was wondering if there's an easy way to research ongoing or pending business litigation against independant contractors.

I want to do this so I can research potential "issues" with contractors that I hire .

My only thought is hit up the Better Business Bureau.

And yes, I used Google's spell check to find the right spelling of Bureau.
