Just watched Aeon Flux and liked it despite the bad reviews. Good art direction. And I found Charlize Theron pretty hot for once.
Memoirs of a Geisha. Super hot. Great flick.
Has anyone seen Advent Children yet? Gonna play it later or maybe tomorrow.

I watched parts of Advent Children I think in September. It's pretty good, haven't seen it in English though.
Oh, Scarlett Johansson was HOT in The Island.
Dude, Aeon Flux was a miserable excuse for a film.
For some reason watched Mission Impossible III.
Mindless action. Suggest wait for the DVD and watch with beer.
Caught Silent Hill the other week.
More horrific than I expected, as in gore, dead children and barbed wire thrust up some womans schnitzel.
Sadly, that and Sean Beans' American accent are its only saving qualities.
Memoirs of a Geisha is an insult to the book it was based off of.
I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the DaVinci Code.

Breaking my general rule of thumb, I'm going to respond to a thread that Backlash started.
Aeon Flux was pretty boring, aside from a few of the special effects.
Memoirs of a Geisha, I just kept looking at how fake her eyes looked the whole time. I guess I expected a little more out of it too. I would have much rather it be done in Japanese and subtitled or something, because the English-accented actors kind of ruined it for me. I hate listening to people with Asian accents speak English.
DaVinci Code, I'll probably go see, but I'm not like EAGERLY ANTICIPATING it or something.
The Island (Even though that movie is so last year) was a good movie.
I've said this before I'm sure, but the one movie I'm skeeting all in my pants about is X-Men 3. I so fucking cannot wait.

The only reason I'm not eagerly awaiting the DaVinci Code is because I think Tom Hanks looks rediculous as Langdon. That and I still think Angels and Demons was better.

The last movie I saw was "Thank You for Smoking."

Although liberally geared, its plot and characters were enough to make Michael Moore cry, I guess.

Last night I went to see An American Haunting, with my daughter and her friend. I really enoyed the movie, finally a scary movie without all the gore and gross. It was only rated PG-13, but it was good. Part of the plot however was lost to my daughter, and I'm greatful for that.

Saw Fun With Dick & Jane - boring movie.
Started Aeon Flux last night, couldn't stay awake. Finished it this morn.
Compared to D&J, AF was better.
Watched Soul Plane this morn because mom said it was too corny not to watch.
Robots - cute cute movie!
House of Flying Daggers - rather enjoyed this.
XXX : State of the Union - okay movie.
Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love - interesting, hated the ending only because I'm a hopeless romantic sap.
Man of the House - cutsie movie, gotta love Tommy Lee Jones
Brokeback Mountain - boring ass movie.
Hostel - fucked up movie, but liked it. Go figure
Can't wait to watch Silent Hill, M: I III, Scary Movie IV, Nanny McPhee... others I can't think of. Only when they come out on DVD though.

I had a discussion about Silent Hill with a friend today.
Friend: So Silent Hill with Rose (his girl) Saturday
Friend: Was kind of disappointing
Me: Did you actually watch the movie
Friend: I did want to go to legitimately see the movie
Friend: Making out was held off until the end
Me: You fucking idiot
Friend: At one point, this woman is graphically burning alive
Friend: And I look over at Rose and she says, "That is so sad."

16 Blocks was quite good, as was V for Vendetta (although there was a substantial amount of unrealized potential in the second).
Lethal Weapon II was on the TV today. *Classic*.
Hoping to see Lucky Number Slevin after finals (if it's still in theaters). MI:3 will probably be fun to watch, if nothing else.
Trees Lounge.
An underrated gem. Steve Buscemi just pwnes.
And DaVinci Code looks moderately good.
I borrowed the book but had to give it back a third of the way through since I was moving jobs.

Watched brokeback mountain this weekend.
Was nice of Heath to spit on his hand.
Also Anne Hathaway's tits, ftw. I'll look at Princess Diaries the same again.
Also watched Narnia, though I slept through the middleish part. Long movie, and a bit boring, but probably because I'd read the book and knew what would happen.

I watched King Kong this weekend. Long long, boring, some cool parts like the dinosaurs. Story and acting was just dumb.
Just saw an article on BBC that says that some Vatican scholars are renouncing the Da Vinci Code.
A simple lesson in irony. People who believe in bullshit calling bullshit on a fictional (bullshit) movie.

There's already a Catholic book out in response to the DaVinci Code. Many cathoic churches here have denounced the movie already. My staunch catholic neighbors arent going to go see it...
My opinion is, if the catholic religion can not stand up to some of the questions the book points to (even in a fictitious manner) then something's amis.
I for one would love to have a peek inside the vatacan vaults to see what they have inside.

I've read the book Memoirs of a Geisha and watched the movie.. I really enjoyed both, a lot. I know some people won't agree with me, but it's one of the most true-to-the-story movies I've watched. It's in my list of top-ten movies, and the book is in my list of top books.
As for other movies.. I saw Narnia and hated it. Immensely. Boring, annoying. it was good however, for Alteration ideas.
As for the Da Vinci Code I'll see it when it comes out on Video. I liked the book but I'm not sure if it'd be good as a movie yet, so I'll not spend money on going to the theatre.
I think I was one of the two or three people that actually liked Ultraviolet. If you take it for what it is, eye candy and mindless Kill Bill-esque (Kill Bill was better... the first one anyway) action, it's actually fairly entertaining.
Narnia was okay. It drags on quite a bit, and there's nothing too great, but then I didn't expect it to be all that.
My cousin dragged me to the 4th Harry Potter movie awhile back, and while I know next to nothing about the book series or the other three movies, it was decently interesting and dark enough to not really be classified as a kids movie.
Umm.. Brokeback Mountain = :wtf:
Other than that, I haven't really seen any movies lately.

Narnia - Bought it cause my daughter loves it. I, too, thought parts of it dragged. But the scenery is so amazing I loved it anyhow. I also found Tumnis a little creepy.
Brokeback - I thought it was really well done, very moving. And the spitting thing caught me a bit off guard, too.
I'll go see Davinci code in the theatre, mostly cause I haven't been to the theatre in months. I gave in and loaned my dad my copy again, since I'm apparently never going to finish it.
Also looking forward to X3 and the next Pirates of the Carib. Johnny Depp :)

I really want to see Da Vinchi code... but right when I saw Tom Hanks as Robert I cringed. I wanted an unknown actor playing the parts of the book (as I feel every book should do, I shouldn't have to think of Tom Hanks (or any other actors) when I read Dan Brown books) Well... unfortunatly it's already getting bad reviews :( I won't be able to see it this weekend due to driving to Indiana for a wedding and back within 3 days ... anyway. read up.

Da Vinci Code sucked. I fell asleep during several parts, and unfortunately at the very end. So I missed like the last 5-10 minutes. This was right after the big news, but I heard i missed the little news about Tom Hank's character. But whatever, the whole movie I struggled to stay awake and pay attention to. The shocks and twists in DVC just weren't shocking or thrilling enough. It wasn't exciting. It wasn't poorly scripted, per say, and I didn't feel the need to laugh out loud when the big reveal came at the end (unlike the French), but I didn't leave the cinema with a big grin of satisfaction on my face either.
Just watched Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior. Groovy flick!
Also watched The Black Mask last night. Saw it when it came out in the theatre. It still holds up pretty well. Not a huge fan of Jet Li, but he does well in this and Hero.

Raw.
Emotional.
Anger.
Hats off to all the servicemen who risk their lives daily for a senseless and needless war.
Most recent purchases...
Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor). Eh, I suspect it was a great book, because the movie felt kind of empty. I liked it, possibly because it was about light vs. dark, and in russian. Worth the $20. Not a blockbuster. In fact, I’m going to look up the books after seeing this.
The Libertine. Weak. I usually like Jhonny Depp’s movies and period pieces but this was tired. Yeah, we get it, celebrate acting, writing and decadence. From Hell was far better.
The new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Would you show this movie to your children? Another Depp movie. Maybe I have a crush on him. Who knows? But, despite all that, awesome. Fucking awesome. Burton got it right on. I loved the original as a kid and who could possibly replace Gene Wilder or even do better? Burton, Depp, Elfman and Deep Roy. Grand slam.

I thought the new Charlie was atrocious. After the initial factory scene where the puppet thing gets set on fire, I can't remember cracking a smile in the entire movie. While I thought Depp's performance was subpar, he didn't really have anything to work with, so I don't hold it against him. Charlie's mom was sorta hot. I was talking with an extremely intelligent young woman about this before, and she said the point of the movie was to be vaguely creepy and dumb, so if that's the case then mission accomplished.
This isn't to say that the original Charlie was some sort of comic masterpiece, but at least there was something to it.
edit: The Island still rocks! :D

For fuck sake man, its V for Vendetta by Alan Moore. One of the most important graphic novels of our age.

What I meant was, of the series I mentioned and you know, two of them are headed by an almost all UK cast. That was my fucking point in the first place. Seeing as you are so vehemently proud of your side of the fucking pond I did not expect you to mouth off like an asshat.
StrayRogue
08-05-2006, 11:41 PM
First
"I guess your theory about how great UK actors is fucked"
is not written in any kind of language I understand.
Second: Rome wasn't a 100% HBO production.
Third: Deadwood features not an almost all UK cast. Not a half UK cast. Not a 1/4 UK cast. Instead it features ONE English actor of any reknown in any kind of serious or worthwhile part. I don't even know if ANY other Europeans even feature in the series.
Neither was it created or directed by anyone but an American. It's still fairly popular over here too. Rome, wasn't so well recieved.
KoH on the other hand, was directed by an Englishman, each of the main stars were from the UK or the EU, and is based on a European history.
While the comment saying that it was unsuccesful because it was a very European thing could be taken in jest (as it was meant - the film did poorly because it was a poor film), saying that Deadwood or Rome is anywhere near the level of "English" as KoH is just fucking retarded.
Why I even invited this conversation is beyond me. I attempted to agree with you. Seems thats not possible because you have your head up your ass.

StrayRogue
08-06-2006, 12:34 AM
Eh?
Are you totally fucking stupid? I mean...wow. You have completely lost the plot here.
Ignorant means unknowing of something. The only person who has posted anything that has been complete fiction here is you, making yourself the dumb, ignorant moron here.
Now I'm struggling to see the point you're trying to make with the blah blah American writers and producers (even though Rome was a part BBC production, which I'll let slip). Did I say that I was proud of the Englishmen in any of these series or KoH? No, you fucking cretin.
I said initially, that one of the reasons Kingdom of Heaven may have been unsuccessful in the US (because you, being the dumbass you are, didn't even bother to check if it was a success anywhere else BUT America) was because of it's European content and cast. You then tried to counter this by saying that two very European series which "aren't shown over here" (which they are) feature Brits heavily (which only one does). Now you're pulling out the "but we make them" which completely reinforces my point that European made stuff generally doesn't do as well in the US as it does in Europe (Doh), by saying that these two "almost all UK cast" productions are indeed American.
I could argue that the directors of Rome were mainly Brits or other Europeans (I think two or three of them were actually from America), but that would be helping your little argument.
So well fucking done. Have a medal. You've completely helped me make my point and made yourself look more of an idiot in the process.

I can tell you the whole plot of "Never Back Down" without ever having seen it:
1) New kid at rich, white school.
2) Invited to a party by a hottie
3) Rich white kids at school are so bored, and can't legally beat up black people who dare wander into their town, so they start a backyard fight club.
4) New kid gets ass kicked at this fight, and loses respect of hottie.
5) New kid trains hard to gain back this "street cred" he's lost.
6) New kid comes back a month later and kicks everyone's ass, earning the hottie's poonanie as his reward.

7) Rich white kids pout for awhile, then accept new kid as one of their own.

First the guy isn't' black. Half of 1, 3, half of 4, half of 5, half of 6, 7 are all wrong.
So all in all I'd say I was right. About 5 in Comparison.
Obviously you are an idiot.

I didn't say he was black. I just said he went to a rich white school. Unless you think new = black.
Idiot.

I liked it too. Novel's better... but they always are.
I enjoyed the Bank Job. End could've punched a bit harder... but they were trying for the patina of historicalness.

You are obviously an idiot.
6) New kid comes back a month later and kicks everyone's ass, earning the hottie's poonanie as his reward.
....
7) Rich white kids pout for awhile, then accept new kid as one of their own.

So wtf does that mean then? It clearly looks like you are assuming he is black.

I meant that they can't beat up random black dudes who wander into their town, so they take their aggression out in a backyard fight club which never gets too nasty.
Appleseed Ex Machina. Hot. Fucking hot. John Woo production CGI anime. Blows the other CGI movies away. (FFX and Beowolf)
The plot and voice acting were both stupid in Appleseed. I'm not an anime person in general though so maybe it's good for the genre? Anyway, the look of the movie is incredible. The advancements in rendering technology for games and movies is really on the next level especially if this movie only cost around the $10m mark although I can't imagine how inflated that would be if it was made in hollywood instead of japan.

For this recent DVD release of Ex Machina? I admit I am somewhat easily entertained. Yes, the rendering of this was phenomenal, the “Woo”esque action sequences very well choreographed... its was no Miyazaki movie in terms of story or character development. The chars are preestablished and yeah, kinda shallow.
I’m not a HUGE anime fan. I just picked this up because it looked good and I remember the Appleseed concept being cool.

Yea except the whole drones fighting in swarms vs humans in exo suits was like the matrix all over again.

For my own vindication, the summary for Summit Pictures, who released the film:
Synopsis:

Set against the action-packed world of Mixed Martial Arts, Never Back Down is the story of Jake Tyler, a tough kid who leads with his fists, and, often, with his heart. Jake Tyler, played by Sean Faris, is the new kid in town with a troubled past. He has recently moved to Orlando, Florida with his family who has relocated to support his younger brother’s shot at a professional tennis career. Jake was a star athlete on the football team at home, but in this new city he is an outsider with a reputation for being a quick tempered brawler. Making an attempt to fit in, at the invitation of a flirtatious classmate, Baja (Amber Heard) Jake goes to a party where he is unwittingly pulled into a fight with a bully named Ryan McDonald (Cam Gigandet). While he is defeated and humiliated in the fight, a classmate introduces himself to Jake and tells him about the sport known as Mixed Marshall Arts (MMA). He sees a star in Jake and asks that he meet with his mentor, Jean Roqua, played by Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, In America). It is immediately apparent to Jake that MMA is not street fighting, but rather an art form he wants to master. Roqua will take Jake under his wing, but it is up to Jake to find the patience, discipline, willingness and reason within him to succeed. For Jake, there is much more at stake than mere victory. His decision will not just settle a score; it will define who he is. --© Summit Entertainment [Less]
Hmmmm, seems like I nailed 1-6, but the synopsis doesn't say if I got #7!
P.S. It got 25% on Rotton Tomatoes, you're an idiot for liking this movie.

I liked the movie. Your comparison is still off. I saw the movie I know what it is about. The hottie never loses respect for him. So right there throws off your 4/6 which is what I said. Then while there may be a backyard fight club the movie doesn't even touch on it. The backyard fight club is shown in the movie for all of 10 seconds, then it goes off to the main point of the story. They also don't have that backyard fight club so they can kick the shit out of randoms who wander into the town... Then the last part they don't become friends but the guy doesn't even have a grudge on him so your ending is off.
Like I said you haven't even seen a movie and you are making comments about it like you have seen it. You are the idiot for picking a fight over something you haven't even watched and what you have read on the internet.
So yes, you are the idiot for fighting over a movie you clearly haven't seen and then trying to tell me I am wrong.

Karate Kid has nothing on Never Back Down. I'd give it a 5 in comparison.
No, just no.
This is like saying The Godfather has nothing on 10th and Wolf.
You'd have been better off submitting a blank post, it would have been more meaningful.
