View Full Version : Okay, Viral problems inside the PC...technicians come in flocks plz...
Ya, so i think one of the guys i work with got this suck ass virus, and its really pissing me off, what it seems to do is, when i run an anti-virus program, like Norton or McAfee, it will just close the program, so as soon as i click the tray icon for McAfee, the window that popus up, just closes, and with Norton installed, it just doesnt let norton load, it also doesnt let ZoneAlarm Pro load....and i believe it attacks some sort of memory resource file because out of nowhere the computer will hit big patches of lag.....can i get ah solution plz?

Try starting in Safe Mode, disabling system restore, and then running Norton or McAfee..
How to disable system restore?

get someone who knows what they are doing to go into your system registry and delete hkeys in the localmachine that are not needed
a lot of the new malicious programs write there so most virus scans do not even notice them
an example would be the norio.trojan

There is an online virus scan available at this location:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
Maybe that will help? Sorry you are having such a problem, hon.

*Edited to add that this scan is FREE!*

If you can't fix it, and it's endangering your job, you might want to consider backing up your important stuff and reformating.
I cant reformat...i've got stuff on here that i need to have on here to do some projects im working on, and i cant get the CD's with the programs on them again right now...its not endangering my job, i just CANT reformat...

I would read here to see how to safely turn off system restore and scan in safe mode
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.norio.html
I would also go here and post my question

That is horrible. Have you tried using one of the free on-line scanners to see if you can locate the virus? If you can just find the bastard, you can get rid of the damned thing. :(

If you think its the blaster(it doesnt sound like it to me though) you can always download both the fix and the patch using another computer and save it onto a disk and then start the infected computer without connecting to the net and then first run the fix(symantec has one) and after install the patch.
I was able to successfully use that for my cousins comp but it really doesn't soundlike what you are describing is the blaster alone.
Heck, you could be truly blessed and have multiple problems. When my father called a tech to fix his office computer (he also was unable to get norton or mcafee to install or run) they found like 5 different viruses on there :)
Doesnt symantec also have an online check they can run?
Good luck and keep us posted.

www.pcpitstop.com is a great resource also. They have full tests, antivirus checks and spyware tests. Check it out if you can.
