View Full Version : Women Presidents

I saw something the other-day, it may have been BBC, or one of our major networks...

Women leaders are being voted in all around the world. Not just this century either. Whats the big hang-up here in the supposedly most progressive country in the world?

A woman as president???

Are we STILL VICTORIAN?

I honestly don’t see why not. Obviously other countries agree. Whats your stance?

I'd fuck one. A woman would do a 30x better job than Al Gore ever could have.

If you or I were lucky enough to be an intern.

I wouldn't want the world being incinerated every menstrual cycle.

I would also vote in Angela Lansbury based on these very premises (Who, btw, was born as an old lady murder mystery sleuth.)

Like George Bush doesn't have menstrual cycles.

I'd like to take this time to nominate Satira.

And not just because I'd like to be her intern.

I'd vote for Oprah

Liberia has a female president now doesn't it? And Rwanda has a lot more female leaders, at first because of no choice due to most of the men being slaughtered left the ratio 7-1 and now they are there because the women are doing a good job.

At least a lot more women's rights are going into the law books over there. Rape is now a convictable crime.

I'd be happy if a woman finally ran for president but I would hope people still voted on issues rather than just because she is a woman. That women didn't vote for her and some men didn't vote against her due to gender.

I'm willing to bet we'll have a black president before we have a woman president.

I think if Powell were to run right now (had he not left his position, or even maybe still) he'd likely get the nomination and a decent shot at the presidency.

I can't think of any women (except for Hilary, which i assume is who this topic is meant to bring up) who would get any decent amount of votes in a primary.

My instinct is that the political advantage in a national election (some people would vote for a female candidate because of gender) would be offset by the disadvantage (some people would vote against based on gender). Unfortunately, you have to get through primaries in order to run in the general election and I think the politics surrounding the primary process favors men.

I would like to see both a woman president and a black president (even in the same person, Condi anyone?) because I'm certain that we can do better than the national candidates that we've seen over the last 20 years. So my theory is that increasing the pool from which we pick the candidates would increase the quality of our president. I don't think women have been excluded from the available pool in recent years, just that the primary process has so far favored white men.

There was a poll done a few months back by CBS I think that showed that a majority of people would vote for a qualified woman right now. I'll have to find the link to the story.

My mother stopped watching "Command In Chief" because someone from Fox News (might have been O'Reilly) said that Hilary Clinton was a writer/contributer and that she was pushing the show to help people prepare for her run in 2008.

Yes, my mother is retarded, but people actually think this way.

Yeah, I have to agree. I would definitely like to see a black man in office before a woman. So if it plays out like that, we probably have another 20-30 years to wait. I'm not so sure White America is ready to loose the foothold they have in this country, not quite yet anyway.

David Palmer for President in 2008!

Polling numbers are fishy:

"This poll was conducted among a nationwide random sample of 1,229 adults, interviewed by telephone January 20-25, 2006. The error due to sampling for results based on the entire sample could be plus or minus three percentage points."

They go on to split their demographics by age and gender. Unless you have 1,000 seniors to poll, 1,000 men, and 1,000 women, you really can't do that and have it be representational. Their first assertion holds true:

"Significant majorities of all demographic groups say they would vote for a qualified woman from their own party for president.

Today, 55 percent of those polled think America is ready for a woman president. This is up 7 percentage points from December 1999, and the highest number since CBS News started asking the question in 1996. Still, 38 percent say the country is not ready for a woman to lead the country. "

The rest of the study's conclusions, however, has been skewed by how they broke up their research.

edited to add: Likely, if a woman were elected, she'd be fairly old (comparitively), so I wouldn't worry so much about PMS. Now, hotflash mass extermination, that might be a problem, but Thatcher seemed to do OK not anihilating Britain from 1979-1990, so that eases my mind.

If I cared enough to vote I'd vote for who would do a better job.

I don't get why it matters if they have a penis or not or if their skin is a different color...because none of that tells you how they'll do their job.

Reminds me of a dumb twat who wasn't going to give someone a job because they relied on public transportation...

I agree with Alfster.

What I worry about is that the first woman to run may be elected simply because she IS a woman... and that woman might be HRC, who I cannot stand.

In June 2005, Carey announced her bid for Lieutenant Governor of California as an Independent in 2006. She also attended a GOP fund-raiser with the president of the company that produces her porn videos and announced that she is a Republican.

Also she can't run for president until 2016, when she's finally at least 35.

Some, including Rev. Donald Wildmon of the American Family Association, believe that her new political affiliation is an organized attempt to embarrass Republicans, by showing a porn actress in the same dining hall with President Bush and her affiliation with the Republican Party. This is only conjecture, however, and most agree that Carey is as eligible to run for public office as any other candidate.

:grins:

Though, clearly, Dick Cheney may disprove my theory. All those heart medications probably help though.

The genius is not that she has gained even an iota of political recognition.

The genius is that she has gained more publicity and a wider audience than she would have by any other means.

Aside from that. My vote isn't swayed by a skin color or genetalia ... however, I can't think of any qualified women.

Hillary .... can rot for many reasons.
Rice .... can rot for obvious reasons.

Those are your candidates from either party. Who else is going to run ... maybe McKinney for the dems? Ya right.
