The Rapture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapture) as defined by Wikipedia.org (http://en.wikipedia.org).

Ok, someone in another thread made mention of this, in candor or not, and it piqued my curiosity. I did a little research on top of what I already know and it is an intriguing subject for discussion.

In brief, it is an event where those who are truly meant for heaven will be whisked away to heaven before the end of times on Earth. The idea is derived from the New Testament of the Bible in the 1800s through inference as there is no explicit description of such an event.

Belief, and action on belief, is however indeed powerful.

This is not a thread to belittle anyone’s beliefs. It is to thoroughly discourse the concept.

You should try reading the "Left Behind" series. It's a fictional series based on the rapture. I'm not anything remotely close to Christian and found them really enjoyable, even though the author did tend to preach in the book at times, I just would skip the paragraphs.

You'll find this mildly educational. It also gives a little background on the concept and theory of "the rapture".

I really liked the "Left Behind" series too.

The rapture is an interesting concept. Wouldn't it be odd to be stuck here after that..I don't wanna!

hehe.

Certain things will shepard in the rising of the political Anti-christ. When *he* comes about, that's when God is said to gather his flock to him and cause the rapturing of the faithful to happen.

Read Daniel 11:40 and you'll see that when the "King of the North" attacks Israel with his allies, you'll see one of the events that shepard in the tribulation period. The Left Behind series attributes this King as being Russia. Whether or not this is the truth is unknown, but it bears looking into.

The Christian resolution to find the world ugly and bad has made the world ugly and bad.

Only if you're one of those types who subject others to your mis-guided beliefs or think yourself better than others because of it.
