Has anyone done a test on flaring weapons to see what the percentage chance to flare is?

Also has anyone done a comparison of using damage weighted weapons versus flaring weapons to find out what does more damage per swing?

Also do flaring weapons roll to flare even if you do enough damage to kill something?

You swing a mithril hilted vultite falchion at a rabid guard dog!
AS: +121 vs DS: +2 with AvD: +36 + d100 roll: +10 = +165
... and hit for 31 points of damage!
Mighty blow cracks several ribs.

** Your hilted vultite falchion emits a searing bolt of lightning! **

... 15 points of damage!
Mild electric jolt sends the guard dog into spasms.
The guard dog is stunned!

AS: +121 vs DS: -2 with AvD: +36 + d100 roll: +31 = +190
... and hit for 44 points of damage!
Hard slash to belly severs a few nerve endings.

** Your hilted vultite falchion emits a searing bolt of lightning! **

... 25 points of damage!
Visible wisps of electricity shoot up left leg. Youch!
The guard dog rolls over and dies.
Roundtime: 6 sec.

I just thought that was a large amount of damage and the second flare may not have been needed.

Well, keep in mind there are different kinds of flares that flare with different frequency. The stormhammer has lightning flares that flared about 1/3 while a menyo mattock might shoot off a petrification flare once every 500 swings. Some weapons just flare more than others.

Weapons check to see if the monster dies before they flare. Feras is the only exception I know of.

I did research on *my* character's flaring weapon (a curved black falchion) and found the following:
Swings: 1268
Chance of flare: 23.11% +/- 2.8%
Damage per swing: 4.2

Therefore, my flaring weapon is slightly superior to a weapon with 7 points of damage weighting (decent weighting) in terms of damage alone, on average.

I know you know this Latrinsorm but it's probably good to explicity state that flaring weapons can also do critical strikes (some more than others, my vacuum flaring falc would blow off legs or just outright kill quite often) whereas damage weighting won't help with that.

Yeah I knew some flare more then others, I was just looking to see if anyone had done the research and I got my answer I was looking for.

I basically wanted to know if I should be picking 2 heavy damage weighted weapons to swing or if my flaring weapons did about as much damage.

It looks like 2 heavy damage weighted weapons will do well also.

Thanks for the information.

Did you by the way had a log parser to figure that out or did you just hand analyze your logs?

Hand analysis.
