So I been on this anime kick the last couple weeks, but I really hate watching a lame series. I just finished Full Metal Panic and .Hack(just fired up part 1 of the PS2 games as well). Was just wanting to know some good *new* titles out there. I haven't really watched much since I was about 18-20, so I'm kinda out of the loop. My father, oddly enough, watches anime as well, and has quite the collection.

I will say I tried watching a few titles that were suggested and I was not impressed. Titles such as GTO, Those Who Hunt Elves, Devil Hunter Yohko, and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head. I really don't like ones that are targeted for a younger crowd, but I don't like hentai. The two i listed above that I just finished I really liked.

Anyways, any suggestions would be nice!

If you liked .hack//sign, I would recommend .hack//dusk, though the animation style is different and more "chibi"-like. Get Backers is good as well, though it can get a little slapstick at times. Same thing goes for Chobits, if you haven't seen it. My favorite series is probably Elfen Lied. It starts off a bit... overly violent... but otherwise I think it's great. Love Hina is good too, but may be hard to find.

Pretty much the only thing I watch right now with regard to anime is Bleach. I don't feel like getting into Naruto funny enough, it's too much to catch up on.

I recently watched 2 episodes of something called Fate/Stay night. It's ok so far. But nothing really to make me eager to watch more right away.

It's not that new, but you can't go wrong with Naruto. And if you haven't seen the series yet, get Kenshin. Preferably subtitled.

The battles are nice but the episodes are short. When it goes into the next episode, half the time is used up to show what happened in the previous episode, which is annoying. I like how they take their time in getting his skills to come out instead of destroying everything at will like Bastard.

Yea I've seen Chobits(not a fan), naruto(not a fan, much like Kefka said, too short, I feel like I watching an anime version of the wheel of time series), have seen Trigun, Bandit King Jing, and Arc the Lad...

Cowboy Bebop is definitely of the more realistic and "with the times" genre, as it boasts the rarity of containing like 3 or 4 black people in its almost-not-racist animation.

You most certainly should check out Dragon Ball/" " Z (not GT) for the sake of pissing a majority of people off. I also find that when you aren't pissing people off by quoting Mr. Popo in Starbucks, or arguing what colour Gokou's eyes are at SSJ3 while waiting for the bus with some hobo, that it (DB/DBZ) is surprisingly old school and extremely unmatched in many-a-ways.

Also, buy Ninja Gaiden (for the Xbox) as it is totally awesome and I think counts as at least being a Japanime since it has some Team Ninja CGI in it and also uses words like "Ninpo" and "Inazuna." (Which are pretty cool f-ing words, btw.)

Akira, Wings of Honneamise, Vampire Hunter D, Fist of the North Star, Urotsukidoji. Most of the Miyazaki films are also crucial viewing as well.

Those are probably the best films. As for series, I always liked the following:

Guyver, Nadesico, Cowboy Bepob, Trigun, Lain, Samurai X/Rurouni Kenshin, Armitage, Dominion Tank Police, Evangelion, TENCHI, Ghost in the Shell.

Just curious what you meant by "pissing a majority of people off". Do people not like DBZ and DBGT? I'm a fan, but unfortunately Cartoon Network isn't broadcasting it again in my area.

Trigun, Evangelion, and Cowboy Bebop are always solid bets.
I haven't seen Wolf's Rain mentioned yet.

All three Dragon Ball series and Naruto are for kids. One Piece is embarassingly mutilated on CN, one can only hope that it's better in the real version.

Dragon Ball, DBZ (no one cares about GT) are mutilated on CN because CN = CN.

Adult Swim couldn't handle some of the material regularly butchered out. There is one particular bathtub scene that I do wish would have a permanent censorship applied to it, though.

The only ones I've really liked are Trigun and DBZ.
