So I just got back into the game after taking a year and a half or 2 years off and I have alot of questions. I started with a little dwarven rogue just because I had always wanted to play one when I still played but was too involved with my ranger and sorc already. Plus I never got around to playing a dwarf.

Is TWC still viable for rogues?

If I use TWC should I bother with hiding and ambushing?

Is it possible to get a balanced training plan to be able to use TWC and still pick boxes(maybe 2x in picking)?

Id ask about CMAN's but I dont even know where to begin....

Still level 3 to join a society?

Still level 15 to join a guild?

Im pretty sure I screwed up his starting stats so any info on this will help for when I reroll him. Im not even going to try and max TP's yet...

I am not interested in going sword/board again, I like playing training paths that arent used as much or are under rated. Anyway, I guess thats a decent start. Im sure Ill have more to ask in a bit.

edit: thinking back on it I cant remember if it was 3 or 5 to join a society and if it was 15 or 20 to join a guild....

Welcome back!

Is TWC still viable for rogues?

Yep, sure is.

If I use TWC should I bother with hiding and ambushing?

If you go hiding/ambushing, I don't think you'll be able to do the 2x'ing in picking...don't quote me on that though, I don't know for sure.

Is it possible to get a balanced training plan to be able to use TWC and still pick boxes(maybe 2x in picking)?

Should be able to, if you don't do the hide/ambush thing. (Again, I haven't trained a TWC/Hider/Picker, so I don't know for sure.)

Id ask about CMAN's but I dont even know where to begin....

Single in them, if possible.

Still level 3 to join a society?
Still level 15 to join a guild?

Yep.

Hmm, heres what I am doing so far. Im pretty sure I found a way to screw it up so its gotta be better if someone looks at it that knows more than me(read: everyone here). I started training for picking and disarming but decided that its not even worth it until later anyway so I started off focusing on combat skills.

Now, I'm doubled in CMAN for the AS, as well as the uber rogue cmans.
Tripled in hidng, because I'm going for the vitals and need to not be seen. Combat only skills!

You leap from hiding to attack!
You swing a long white ora dagger at a lesser burrow orc!
AS: +127 vs DS: +54 with AvD: +22 + d100 roll: +44 = +139
... and hit for 28 points of damage!
Beautiful shot pierces skull! Amazing the burrow orc wasn't killed outright!
The burrow orc is stunned!

** Your long white ora dagger releases a blast of vibrating energy! **

... 20 points of damage!
Good blow to back!
You swing a scorched drakar dagger at a lesser burrow orc!
AS: +122 vs DS: +29 with AvD: +22 + d100 roll: +43 = +158
... and hit for 29 points of damage!
Attack punctures the eye and connects with something really vital!
The lights in a lesser burrow orc's eyes dim and finally go out.
Roundtime: 4 sec.

You leap from hiding to attack!
You swing a long white ora dagger at a greater burrow orc!
AS: +127 vs DS: +53 with AvD: +20 + d100 roll: +29 = +123
... and hit for 5 points of damage!
Flashy swing!
Too bad it only bopped the burrow orc's nose.
You swing a scorched drakar dagger at a greater burrow orc!
AS: +122 vs DS: +53 with AvD: +20 + d100 roll: +66 = +155
... and hit for 41 points of damage!
Gruesome slash opens the burrow orc's forehead!
Grey matter spills forth!
A greater burrow orc growls one last time and dies.
Roundtime: 4 sec.

I started out sword/board because at lower levels, don't have enough ambush to make the damage on the daggers worth it. Now that I can consistangly hit the head, I switched to the daggers. What I don't crit, the flares usually stun for. It's quite fun!

What does the dex and con stats do? I think the biggest problem I had is I used the concept of the stat from DAoC instead of GS. Probably should have thought about that earlier...

Only thing I want to ask is, are you planning on COL or Voln? If you're doing COL, you probably want a higher Aura stat (for spirit).

Off topic again: Hell no. Geico is way too expensive. It'll save you money if you're 65, though.

On topic finally: No idea.

I was getting ready to just reroll because I knew I screwed up. As I got to the inn and checked in I saw that they had stat reallocations. Do these go away after time once I use one or are they there until I use them all?

And I appreciate all the help so far, it helps ease the pain of relearning the game.

Very nice. I think those who have come back and are bringing pre-GSIV characters into the GSIV world get a 30-day reallocation period (both stats and skills). Don't know this for sure, but I do know that everyone who was post-30 days who had remaining stat allocations left had them taken away a few months ago. So, I'd use 'em up, if I were you.

(And maybe it's not the pre-GSIV characters reallocating into post-GSIV characters...maybe it's if you're account wasn't active when the allocations got taken away, you still have them to use for a certain period of time. Still advise using them asap, just in case the system takes 'em away from ya.)

That would be great but I no longer have my old characters. Im trying to locate Elrodin but its only a stray hope to get him back at this point. So I am just on a new account with a new character. It wouldnt have been bad rerolling since I am only 5 but if the stat reallocations go away over time after you use one then I will probably just reroll him anyway so I can use them at later levels.

Alright, whats the best combo of weapons to use as a TWC rogue? Started with a falchion and a scimitar and it was like 11 sec rt. Switched to dagger and falchion and its down to 6. I know alot of people use daggers(going for crits im guessing) but is it worth it?

A snowy cockatrice searches around nervously.

Your AGI and DEX stats suck, so you're getting a higher RT. Try using short swords, scimitars, longswords and daggers. Alternatively look on the GS4 website for a list of all the weapons speeds.

First thing I see is the scimitar/falchion combo....falchions are usually heavier then scimitars, so try switching them around (swinging the falchion first, scimitar second). Also, your ambushing will add a second onto the swinging RT. Make sure you're trained for your armor and aren't too encumbered (rt will go up with encumberance and with armor that you aren't trained for...8 ranks of armor use for doubles, 30 for brig, 80 for metal breastplate, etc.).

GuildRat
04-17-2006, 06:15 PM
Ditto....if you're TWC'ing it....go with a fast blade in each hand. Also, give it time and trainings to work off the RT. The more you train the faster your swing is gonna be.

Get 509 and learn CMs fast so you can get to surge of strenght. That'll help offset some of the RT also.

Mgoddess, weapon weight doesn't effect rt. It is base speed and weapon base you need to look out for.

Jolena

I believe all new characters have 30 days to migrate skills instantly (like constant fixskills for a month) and to reallocate stats. After that thirty days, it is gone, as far as I know. So..when you log in next, Elrodin, look at the messaging you receive about your stats and reallocation. There should be a date given to you upon logging in that says its your deadline. Also, we have a fixskills coming up next month for everyone.

Huh... alrighty, that makes sense. Does weapon weight affect mstriking rt, or is that also weapon base & speed?

GuildRat

weapon base and speed assuming the weapon isn't heavy enough to encumber you...dex bonus and armor training are calculated in too.
