I guess topic is self explanatory. I'm sure there are lots of these posts around, but I lack the patience at this hour of night to go digging.

I'm trying to think of the last time I was in game... my most recent log is from the Bregandian Invasion which I *think* might be 1999 or maybe 2000. I left about 3-4 weeks after that.

The most obvious change seems to be GS3 has become GS4. I'd guess that's a whole different can of worms. I'd appreciate it if anyone could point me to a website that lists some of the major mind-boggling changes between GS3 and GS4, or briefly detail some of the biggest ones.

Thanks for your time =)

Seriously tho if you do come back you should try plat. It took about 4 years but they finally hit their target of 30 people signed up.

I know you know how you know how it feels.. but what is a nap from the lands? Is that forum roleplay for taking a five year respite?

The biggest change, is that it's a completely different game. Forget everything you used to know, and start over brand new.

Yes completely different game. SO MUCH better these days.

Yes. Why did I leave? Shrugs, what does it matter it was 5 years ago. Did I plan on returning ever? No. Things had changed quite a bit during those 5 years. I personally think the lands have gained more depth then they were in the GS3 days. Then again I am a Sorcerer so I am biased

To relearn most of the new changes I found the above websites that folks have posted extremely helpful, including this one.

Peace

Thanks for all the information everyone. I've been back for a couple days now.. and I must say, I can hardly recognize anything.

I haven't however been able to find anything concerning DS mechanics. My DS is WAY WAY down, as in, I can barely manage to get my guarded DS fully self spelled above the AS of monsters my level. Whereas I used to be around 400-425 in guarded self-spelled, now I'm around 300. I even got killed on the way from Icemule to Landing, when there used to be nothing there that could even touch me.

This is with a 6x shield, 5x weapon and 5x brigandine armor, fully singled in edged, shield, armor and CM. With all CoL signs up, and airwall. I'm not even sure how to go about hunting with this much of a drastic change.

I'm a 26 cleric btw.

There's this groovy new thing called dodge and even groovier thing called runestaves. Alternately you could become a paladin.

DS's got reduced from the stupidly unbalanced numbers they used to be. AS's were balanced out to reflect this as well. You're probably fighting against mobs that got upped in the change. Some monsters gained levels, some lost levels.

Is it even worth coming back to? Most people I talk to say its not. Plus starting from scratch sucks.

The creatures on the Glacier get up to the upper 30s now, fyi. I'm assuming a flare from a frost giant Cone of Cold killed you, as I don't recall them getting over 300 AS. I suppose you could also have gotten pulped with a frost giant AS-flared battle-axe, pures are pretty susceptible to that kind of thing.

Anyway, 300 will certainly cover you versus mid-20s stuff.

edit: Is it even worth coming back to?
Yes.

No, it isn't IMHO.

It's not going anyway. Once you're at the cap, you're at the cap. There's no reason to play, no goal, no point.

If I were to even get elrodin back Id only be something between 45-50, I dont remember where I left but I know I was in that area. So there would be plenty for me to still try and accomplish. Im just not sure I can go back to pve full time. I have really enjoyed the pvp of mmorpgs.

It's still fun. I opened up an account a few days ago and have been puddlefucking around... I don't accept change too quickly though, so there's a ton of new options to mess around with.

PvP/PvE are both vastly more fun in WoW, for one game.

True, but it really all depends on what he expects to get out of the lands.

I didnt take to WoW. DAoC was the best PvP around so thats where I stayed.

Peam, Im kind of the same way. I hate change. What are the other options though? I pretty much havent looked into details of the game since... I dont even know when, I know I left before paladins came out though.

Well, there's the five new races. You could always start one of those. Before my last break, I had taken a half-krolvin rogue up to about 25 and was having a blast with him.

This go I'm playing a burghal gnome rogue (Yes, I have a thing for rogues.) and the past few interactions with him have been awesome.

Maybe I make the mistake of looking at things from an RP standpoint, rather then a mechanics standpoint, but either way, there's a whole world of stuff out there I haven't scratched on... including an thorough exploration of EN and everything in between. The five new races could keep me busy for quite a while.

On top of all that, my 'graphics are for the unimaginitive' stance holds firm root, thus my loyalty to the game.

This deserves repeating. If you are expecting to get your entertainment out of mechanics, GS isn't the place to be. There are some majorly F'd up systems in GS, and change is often slow in coming.

The RP is worth it, however, if you are willing to work for it.

If you were any profession besides warrior, you got a couple of substantial freebies. If you were a sorcerer, prep 702 followed by cast everything no longer is a viable hunting method.

The Bregandians also laid waste to Elanthia and we all involuntarily worship Spidereyes the Arachnite.

There was an invasion of bugs, then humans, then plants: Spidereyes the Arachnite smote them down like the Aeia-worshipping bitches they were.

The best thing about all these invasions, is that in I think the banaltra one, everyone started overanalyzing this one room's description because they saw "canine skull" and all the normal town NPCs were pulled. These people had the misconception that the shaggy mutt had been turned into moo shoo. These people were dumb and bad and Spidereyes the Arachnite smote them down equally. It was the bomb.

To get spell-ups in Wehnimer's where you normally would, type "S" followed by the art of begging.

They recently introduced these green and blue scarab traps, they're O.K., but not the best.

After much waited anticipation, the WAIT verb finally was revamped to include a round time.

You can CHORTLE. I suggest you do so.

After much waited anticipation, the RAGE quest of being able to play many-a-critter of Kulthea... never happened.

You can still dupe certain sets of halfling chain mail.

Suvar killed Drizzsdt, Malok and Blades. Repeatedly. They cried and went demonic to the sulking-baby demons of Spidereyes the Arachnite (who replaced Luukos.)

Hope that helps,

Sincerely,

Stanley Burrell.

As a female voice in the sea of people discussing PvP, PvE, DS, AS, XXX and all the other mechanical crap in GS..

There is nothing.. and I mean NOTHING.. like Gemstone in way of actually roleplaying. No graphical game ever compares. And nothing can compare to the extreme amount of item customization in Gemstone even if it is *just* text.

It's a small community, and that means that while the Snerts suck worse than Snerts in any other game and the assholes are more annoying than in any other game.. the same goes the other way around, as cheesy at that sounds. The bonds/friendships you form through the roleplay and character development in this game is exceptional. The cool part is that THAT, can't be programmed. It's entirely player driven.. and that's to me why Gemstone will always be worth playing even if Simutronics is a company full of idiots, even if the subscription does cost way too much, even if the rules don't make sense and even if there are people who annoy you.

Through December 2002, I don't think Suvar ever killed Malok even 1 time.

Suvar was only level 213. Malok was 262.

Suvar had a CS of around 1030.

For Malok (or Malokii for that matter) to get killed was a fairly rare occurence - period.

If you are referencing from December 2002 - present, I have no idea regarding that. :)
