What do you think. Is $1800 too much for a television set? Or should I splurge and play Guitar Hero in true style.

Be smart. Invest the money.

I suddenly have extreme buyer's remorse for the $1500 I spent on Spring Break.

How long does it take for the price drops in TVs? I noticed the plasmas are getting cheaper.

Cheaper and FAST currently. Something like 3 new plasma manufacturing plants are gearing up world wide I read in the business section.

Personally it's just a fucking tv so I'd pass bro. Invest the money imo is your best option always! I ALWAYS feel the most buyers remorse after buying tvs.

I vote no, in favor of investment. You make good money now, and I'm sure you can't conceive of any situation where you'd make less or be jobless, but you never know. Plus, if you invest wisely it only means you'll have more later on AND the TVs will be cheaper. It's win-win!

Please note that it must not be so "exceptionally comfortable" as you wanted input on a cheap $1800 purchase.

However "exceptionally comfortable" obviously differs from one person to the next.. I'm sure Ted Kaczynski was "exceptionally comfortable" without a tv.

Better things to spend $1800 on other than a tv.

Exceptionally comfortable meaning I'm making more than the 99th percentile of people my age, have no debt, currently employed with a very significant amount of job security, and if I ever do get laid off for god knows what reason, I could easily go to any other firm and make even more than I am now.

Don't buy a badass TV till 2009. Spend it elsewhere.

If you're going to buy a tv, you should buy a much nicer one than that.

I'd assert that for most guys, a nice TV is an investment. The difference in quality between your run-of-the-mill Korean made POS and a crystal clear LCD can make watching that much better.

Do you want a new television? Can you afford a new television without sacrificing something you want more than a new television, or sacrificing something you really need? If the answer to those two questions is "Yes", buy a new television.

Logic is such a simple thing.

To me the logical choice is to not waste money on a tv. $1800 added to the retirement fund is MAD CASH in 20 years. But soulpie is obviously richer than the average 24 year old college grad so if you got the money DO IT MAN! (the conservative cheap ass in me says don't)

That being said at 24 I was making 55k and wasted money on all kinds of stuff. (that now at 29 I wish I didn't) I wasn't trying to rain on your tv purchase I was trying to convey some old age into the equation. I bought a very expensive tv about 4 1/2 years ago and man did I regret after I realized television sucks.

Let your inner nerd go:

TV Cost = 1800 = y
TV Hours Used per week = x
TV Lifespan (almost 99% likely longer but just to be simple) = 1 year

[(x/y) * 1 = How much you're going to spend per week to use said TV.

[(1800/20) / 1 = $90 a week.

Some people can't afford that in a car payment. Also keep in mind that plasma repair is still relatively new and not cheap, which may decrease the amount of time you have the TV compared to a regular tube. But it's ultimately up to you, if it is worth to you in your mind then buy it.

Money is good for two things: getting stuff and getting more money.

Btw, I voted no. Even $20 a week is way too much for a television in my mind, but I'm not a big TV watcher/console gamer.

Stay away from Plasmas. Even the gaming magazines I read now are saying to stay away from them. Too expensive and too much maintenance.

That's a nice TV, SP. Sony definitely a reputable brand. When I was researching Mitsu had some higher quality TV's but you'd be paying a bit more for them.

Also I see that it comes with a free 15" LCD TV & Free shipping. Still I'd shop around for that same model to see what other stores might have it cheaper or with better freebies.

As for the built-in HD Tuner - a bit overrated here in NoVa. You'll likely always be hooked up to a Cable or Satelite box that use their own tuner for HD stations. So unless you're worried about moving to the boonies or the rare instance that the cable is out, I wouldn't care too much.

Built-in hd tuner overrated period now days in the time of digital cable. Most digital cable boxes are HD receivers now.

Based on what I read, my opinion is too little reward when you already have a television that's four years old. It really is up to you though -- your money etc. I'd put it into options.
