Okay so as usual, I'm having problems with something technical.

My laptop has randomly stopped running on AC power when I have my own power adapter thingie plugged into it. When the battery is in it just runs automatically from that, when I remove the battery it turns off but makes this odd quiet ticking sound.

I tried using my sisters power supply unit which works fine when the battery is out, however when I put the battery in the power switches to that, even though the AC adapter was working. When I then remove the battery it doesn't recognise the AC power at all and turns off.

I don't get it! Anyone have any ideas?

Have you checked your power management settings to make sure the laptop defaults to AC if available?

I don't have much experience with laptops, but I have heard there can be problems with old batteries. Hopefully someone here can help you out.

Well my laptop is only a few months old. Also... Never heard of power management settings, il take a look.

Sounds like your AC Adapter is not drawing enough wattage to power it properly but it is doing it enough to recharge the battery slowly.

Well, I figured out why my sisters PSU wouldn't charge the battery... It has half the output amp things that my original one has. Also... I messed with the wires a bit and my one started working again! Yay! Luckily my uncle has some spare ones if it stops working again.

Oh and yes, I should have bought a PC not a laptop, I know!

Look on ebay(assuming it has a uk version) for a replacement for the day the whole playing with the wires thing no longer works.

Out of curiosity, what brand of laptop are you using Miss X?
