Hey, what's currently thought to be acceptable in tipping empaths and rogues? It used to be 10%...is it still that? What about for empaths?
Also, I keep getting boxes with scarab traps...is it enough for a tip for them to have the scarab?

The way I always tipped empaths was based upon the amount of mana it would take to heal the wounds. (I tip a lot).
Blood itself would be 100 coins.
A limb minor would be 200 coins.
300 coins for a nerve minor.
400 coins for a minor head or neck.
(You get the idea).
Lets say I had a broken arm, a neck minor, and bloodloss. I'd tip like 900. *shrug*
Once I get a couple of majors things get pricey. :)

Scarabs are usually worth around 3 to 6k, so unless you've got one spoiled locksmith, they tend to be content with those.

Locksmiths get to keep scarabs. But when I'm picking with my rogue I leave it up to the person to decide if she gets it as a tip.
Empaths on the other hand... I won't tip if I feel like I was mauled without any kind of interaction or being aknowledged.

1000 for ANY wounds, no matter how piddly or large, or a mundane gem.
5000 for a raise.
The highest amount from my boxes or a scarab.

When/If I use rogues or empaths, I tip 100 silver per wound/box from train 0 to train 5, 250 per trains 6 to 10, 500 per trains 11 to 20, and 1000 per trains 21+.
IF there is in fact a scarab, that then becomes a part of the tip, and I figure the tip at 3K. So, it could be the whole tip, or only part.
Finis
I do 500 per minor wound, 1000 per bleeder.
Boxes I try to give at least 1000 per.

Dont tip, save your shillings for another day. Just get another account with a locksmith/empath on it.

Why not just use your empath and rogue at a table so you save money? Do I have to think of everything?
Since I have a capped healer and a lvl 80 rogue I rarely have the need to use other's services. However...
My philosophy has always been somewhat as Drew said for healers. 500 for any grouping of minors unless I'm covered in them. 1000 for major bleeders unless I'm covered with them. Larger amounts of wounds calls for larger payment.
Raises by clerics often illicit 5k or an orb worthy gem for chisms (emerald, diamond).
On boxes...
My rogue keeps scarabs as part of the trap he's disarmed and does not consider them a tip. Occasionally someone will say that the kept bug was the tip, those people usually do not get my services again when I'm offering (which is rare nowadays).
Back in the day when I used to tip others for picking my box, the picker got 1/3 of the coin value.

I never really hunted much, so boxes were kind of a guessing game. If I pulled out two sapphires and a ruby, I usually gave one of the nice gems to the picker.
I try to tip empaths generously, especially the young ones. Once that you can tell are new to the game I usually try to give them a unique (not necessarily overly-valuable) gem from one of the other towns.
As an empath, if you didn't at least thank me you were stolen from, repeatedly. If I save you from death and you're a great lord and you give me 200 silvers, you're getting stolen from.

I used to leave the scarab up to the owner of the box but now I have started announcing I keep them.
I am almost done lock mastery and its been such a bitch I am keeping all the damn trap commponents as well as scarabs as part of them.

5000 for a raise.I guess I can finally agree with StrayRogue on something. Also I throw in another 5k for an especially good rescue. People who walk in with a concussion and rank 3 torso wounds, tip 23 silvers, then say "Sorry that's all I have" when the bank is a whole ROOM away are huge d-bags.
Why not just use your empath and rogue at a table so you save money?Unless you spend over a mil on tips a month, you'd actually be losing money from account fees, wouldn't you?.
illicit Elicit. >_<
My rogue keeps scarabs as part of the trap he's disarmed and does not consider them a tip.Scarabs are definitely part of the worth of the box the client obtained, why wouldn't they be part of the tip?
For locksmithing, I tip 1k a box for starters. If the box is one of those 4k and a diamond boxes, I'll bring it up a bit, obviously. If the locksmith offers me the scarab, I count that as ~0 silvers towards the total tip. If he or she doesn't, I count it as 2k.
Scarabs are definitely part of the worth of the box the client obtained, why wouldn't they be part of the tip?
Scarabs are unique to the ability to disarm them manually (without magic), for without that they would only exist as a hazard inherent to the properties of the trap.
Its a monopoly that is unique to the skill. As soon as the town locksmith starts giving the scarabs back to the customers who pay for their boxes to be opened, I'll start giving them back to those who pay for my skillz. (intentionally mispelled for Latrinsorm in case someone else is dying to demonstrate their affinity for correct spelling this early in the A.M.)

intentionally mispelled for Latrinsorm You misspell elicit ALL THE TIME (ok twice).
Scarabs are unique to the ability to disarm them manually That's true, but they're still part of the worth of the box. By keeping a scarab, you've already made 1k (give or take).
At which point I usually refer those that complain to the town locksmith where he will charge you double what you're willing to tip (for the same box) and keep the scarab to boot.
Its not like there's not alternatives out there.
Conversely, there are a few people out there who do not desire my lock picking services because I do keep the scarab, and they choose to stand in someone else's line for picking. Which is perfectly fine by me, since I pick publically out of boredom rather than for a living.
Oh, and the scarabs I disarm are usually in the 4k range due to the high skill/ranks in disarming Ganny has.

Of course there is more than one locksmith in town usually. Locksmiths who take scarabs as a matter of course will find me taking my business elsewhere. And I actually always give the scarabs to the locksmith. But it's just that, I'm giving it, it's not their box, I deserve all of it's contents to do what I will with.

I tip 1k a box, keep scarabs as well, and about 1-10k per wounds/raise...

All this debate, and the waiting time, amoung other reasons are why I utilize my own empaths, locksmiths, and when available, clerics.
You just can't please all of the people all of the time.
Finis
Most of the older Empaths I go to do not accept tips. So I always tip the young ones with my more precious stones... sapphires, moonstones, rubies...
For smiths I use the town NPC mostly, which actually doesn't turn out too bad cost wise. But again, I tip with scarabs and whatever precious stone I have.
And the lesser races get a few coins.

This is the world's tiniest violin playing for all the empaths.
