Greetings,

As people may have noticed already, I haven't updated my site lately other than the merchant records. There is a reason for as much, unfortunately. I kept my website pages and the data I needed to incorporate into them on an external hard drive which went to crap on me a while ago. Unless it can be recovered, I've lost everything except for the stuff I was luckily keeping on the main hard drive at the time, which was all my information and logs for the town merchant records. I've been able to build up logs on my own of the merchants that happened since, but my saved posts for the rest of the site are gone.

I'm considering moving my files over to the Krakiipedia so other people can continue to update it when I'm unable. Until then, the non-merchant portions of the site may be static for a while.

Have you tried using the Wayback Machine to see if you can recover information that way? It may not be viable, but it's worth a shot.

External hard drives are a joke.

Edited to inquire as to how a web archive is at all useful in recovering data that was never on the web.

Gretchen,

I was able to view your website as it existed this time last year.

I wish people knew how to read/think.

I guess thats kind of like how I wish some people could make a point without always being meanspirited.

Reading the other three posts in a thread before replying must be too much to ask.

.. or even understanding the content of the first post.

Gee, I remember now why I don't bother to help people publically! It's so much more fun to be a snarky asshole and contribute nothing but vitriol to the conversation and spite to the world!

That aside, Nilandia, I perhaps misunderstood your original post. Obviously if the pages were completely new/different, they wouldn't be on the web yet. However, I thought they might be new versions of things you'd previously taken down/changed/etc. If so, apologies for making a suggestion that would bring about this nasty turn in the thread.

I apologize for not being able to contribute to someone making a statement and who cannot be helped.

Irritatingly, Bob does often contribute points of value, I just wish he could do it without feeling the need to mock others as often as he does.

I have Alex on my ignore list - for every 1 useful thing he might have to say he has 50 other smart ass comments that just make me wonder what is missing in his life that makes him such an asshole.

Perhaps Alex might actually make a useful donation to Kranar. I should go back and make an additional donation because the Ignore feature is a truly wonderful thing.

Darn, Nilandia! All that work! I'm really sorry, hon. :(

There's nothing that makes someone look stupider than announcing that they're ignoring someone. :(

Bob, feel free to tell us all about that in your own thread.

Lets stay on topic in this one. If you or anyone else has helpful suggestions for Nilandia please do chime in.

It's nice that I'm off-topic but she's not.

Here's a helpful suggestion: recover the data.

Heh. I'm technically illiterate, unfortunately. Therefore, what I'd do is take the drive to my local computer guru, tell him/her what happened, and beg on bended knee that they retrieve the data by whatever means possible...including voodoo. ;)

That's about what I'm looking at, HN. I've been told to run Disk Doctor on it, which I will attempt sometime soon.

As far as what was lost, I no longer have saved posts and data I was going to incorporate into the site, as well as the actual pages themselves. I can get the pages back by visiting them and viewing the source code, so that's not a problem. It's the actual data to update the pages with that's gone.

So, if anyone has any saved posts of note, announcements in particular, lemme know!

If you connect the hard drive as a slave in a working machine, there's a command you can use in CMD.exe that allows you to recover data from a corrupted hard drive.

There's not much else you can do unless you hire someone whose sole job is to recover lost data. That would be expensive.

I'll have a look at it. Thanks, Bob.
