View Full Version : Loss of Nodes

I have noticed that the only places people gather nowadays in the Landing are the Park, TSC, Voln, and private tables. Whatever happened to the good ol' days with the Treehouse, the steps at HS, the dueling dinghy? I mean, I understand the reasoning behind it, that people were fighting there, and GS isn't a PvP game, but who cares? It makes it more condusive to roleplaying, and that is, from what I understand, the #1 reason GS is around (more or less). I mean, if its SUCH a big deal to people that people duel in certain spots, maybe you shouldn't go there? I equate it to rich white old couples taking a nice stroll in Harlem, or in Compton at night. You KNOW some serious shiz might go down, so why not just avoid it? I wish they'd bring these places back as nodes, so I'd have a place to hang out, socialize a little, instead of the ol grind of ring out, hunt, ring in, rest, repeat

Dueling is in no way conducive to roleplay. Example: The Boulder.

I used to love that one safe room in the Abandoned Inn. Good 'ol days.

I never understood why exactly dueling was not part of roleplay. Perhaps you can break it down for us.

dueling wasn't my point, my point is that these places are gone for whatever reason, and thats just one less place to socialize. its hard to socialize where people are getting mass spells, or getting healed or raised.

The dinghy became part of the constable's jurisdiction years ago. As the dinghy was primarily a dueling spot, this quickly led to the end of the dinghy.
There's nothing that says you can't hang out at HS or in the Treehouse. As the player of a healing empath, I'd prefer it if you didn't socialize in TSC as it gets pretty busy in there as is. The Park is a fine place to socialize.

.....Three words! Cul-de-sac!...wait...one word....Regardless, my point stands!
There are less players now. The PTB wants to encourage roleplay and communication, not just hunt node hunt so that would be my guess.

Dueling as in, "Bet I can get my AS higher than yours!" and "Bring it tough guy, bet I can kill you with one swing!" kind of dueling? I've very rarely seen anything that came close to roleplaying.

I met some of my long term friends in out of the way hunting areas that were secluded. ie. The Abandoned Inn workshop, The safe spot out in Frosties, The ledge out in pookas and miners. For many many levels I had little to no "bonding" with others because these "safe havens" were eradicated in favor of huge gathering areas like the park. My enjoyment of the game has been much greater in the past year since my cleric has been in the rift. I have gotten to know tons of people, who otherwise would still be strangers. I would like to see the return of outer gathering areas, simply for this reason. Some people will powerhunt and rest regardless of what you do. I wish this topic would get some attention.

I really enjoy the ledge... good range of levels, everyone's helpful. It's kinda old school from what I remember.

So you're saying people who pay $15-$49 just to power hunt/rest and not socialize with 90% of the twats in game is a topic that needs attention?
To many Damn Towns in Gemstone, got towns looking like ghost towns at night, shit ask me, knock it back to Icemule, Teras, Landing and put the BOOT back, RR, that would bring alotta folks back to areas, as long as they bring the critter huntin areas with them!
