I've been searching the internet everywhere for some consistent answer to a question that has been plaguing me for awhile:
Why was it cancelled?!??!
Some sites say it was too racist, others say it had nothing to do with that and it was just a ratings thing... anyone have any info on this?

It was pulled?! *cries*
I've heard it was a mixture of the two. The second/third season was pretty racey, and I don't think the ratings were exceptional.
Luckily, we have the two DVD box sets. There's also been rumors of a new animated show by McFarlane. I personally wouldn't be surprised to see a network renew Family Guy, if possible. It's been getting a lot of exposure lately.

My guess would be ratings. Honestly, I had never watched it until it came on Adult Swim.. and now I watch it religiously because its so damn good!

That's Fox's fault then, Family Guy is honest to God a better cartoon than the Simpsons and everyone I know who has given Family Guy a chance has admitted that it's far superior.
I am a bit ticked if it was pulled due to ratings.

What happend.. is everyone loved the show, but fox kept switching the goddamn times on everyone. Pretty much every week it was changed so noone knew when it was supposed to be on to watch it. Anyway, the family guy movie should be coming out by summer I believe and some other network is trying to buy the show (But I doubt it'll have the same writers *shrug*). Anyways, since family guy switched to just one time slot showing re-runs, ratings went through the roof.

You just like it because of all the racial jokes!
That's why I liked it.

It was canned because of several episodes being a bit too risque. I've got a nude outtake that was too much, plus I've also seen the banned Jew episode. I love the damn show!
However, rejoice, a DVD edition of the new series is being released, just not on TV (though I bet you top $ it will hit it big on sindication, just like Star Trek about 30 years ago).

Sometimes i feel like im in the twilight zone of things people find funny. Conan and the family guy i just dont find them that funny. Im not a humorless guy either i swear. I get told i dont take things seriously enough all the time. Admittedly ive never actually seen a full episode of the family guy so maybe i just didnt give it a chance.

Obviously someone who A, hasn't watched Family Guy, B, too sensible or middleclass to understand it, or C, hasn't seen the last four seasons of Simpsons.

And this is coming from a Brit!
Shame on you US "non Family Guy folk", you had your chance to understand.
Move to Canada...
(Editted to say: Okay that was a bit over the top, maybe I've had a few too many. Please watch the show and encourage new shows in the future. I really hate to agree with Stay, please don't make me do it in more often than necessary...)

Don't feel badly, Tendarian... Khaitiff swears I am a freak because I don't find Monty Python to be funny. I'm sure I'm gonna catch a lot of flack for saying that here, but... I guess it's just TOO silly for my taste. I don't much care for the Leslie Neilsen flicks either. Once in a while I'll get in a rare goofy mood and they'll give me the giggles, but for 90% of the time, not my cup of tea.
Now, give me ironic comedies like Snatch any old day! :D
Monty Python is not funny. I think it's something people are conditioned to say is funny. I liked it when I was like 12, and seeing it now that I'm older, it's just terrible stuff.
British humor is awful. Maybe it's the lack of Vitamin D from no sunlight. I really don't know.
There was just an article about the british show that was being done on NBC with American actors having terrible ratings because nobody likes it. Again, being out of the country, I haven't seen it.
My job exposes me to British humor, and it is truly painful. They use strange words like "lollies" for candy. Say "Uni" unstead of University or College. The girls are usually pasty white and fat. Even if they are skinny, they are fat. They have no muscle tone or anything. It's disgusting. I bring this up because most of the time ugly girls will have a good sense of humor, or be nice to redeem the fact that they are ugly, but since they are Brits, they are ugly AND have a bad sense of humor.
Ali G sucks too.
He's a "batty boy" if I've ever seen one.
i dont care for monty python .. but im ashamed to admit it i found ali g amusing .. but on topic i have every episode of family guy on my comp and routinly watch them whenever im in the mood i can never get enough

What British comedy have you seen? Alot of American responses tend to be what I've read here, Monty Python (way dated), Ali G etc. Now we are "subjected" to a lot of American comedy. I can safely say we are a hell of a lot more satirical, risque and sarcastic. Yes, we do lack the "in your face, slap stick comedy that even a blind dog would be able to see coming".

Oh, and just to clarify, I love Cheers, Fraiser, and the first few series of Friends. Most modern American comedy...Scrubs wtf is that???

Obviously someone who is too dimwitted to understand the sophisticated brand of humor that is the Simpsons.

British and French comedy are so God awful. The only funny British comedy is Ali G and that's because he's Americanized. But truly British comedy, ack!

LOL, he's taking the piss out of the Americans. He's had his day though. I guess we are too sophisticated for the Americans. Ah well, hear me gasp in shock again.
Trigger Happy TV rules.
The British version of Jackass...well, lets just say we can show me and worse stuff on our TVs without fear of an axe murderer attack, and this stuff is HEAVY. Knocks the socks of Jackass.
Red Dwarf/Bottom/Black Adder; old but good.
Spaced - Best comedy ever made. Not for Americans, as the jokes are SUBTLE.

Yeah, Mr. Bean is so sophisticated.

Mr. Bean is so early 90's. Atleast it isn't Poo jokes and the constant "OMG they killed Kenny". Really satire there.

It was cool for awhile, however, furries running around cities gets old really quick, as does some guy yelling into a gigantic cell phone.

It just sounds stupid when you talk about British comedies being all so sophisticated, and then you use examples like Jackass and Trigger Happy TV.
Don't try and make it seem like your comedy is this fully intellectual experience that only intelligent people like yourself could truly appreciate... and then brag about how your version of Jackass is way funnier and vulgar than ours.
No one's buying it.

Nah, you see our comedy goes across the spectrum, and generally, and I know this as our TV is saturated with American BS, generally pulls it off 9/10 times better.

The reason British T.V. is saturized with American comedy is because American comedy is what's making the British laugh.
The reason why American T.V. isn't saturized by British comedy is because whenever a network tries to introduce it, they find themselves scrapping for cash.
The British, and hell... everyone around the world loves American T.V., music, movies, and culture. If it makes you feel better you can pat yourself on the back and say "We're so much more sophisticated than those lousy Americans" but the bottom line is that you, and your country deep inside, love American comedy way more than you like your own.

Music?? HAHAHAH how absolutely fuck all you know of our culture Kranar. As for Film, the reason is saturated by the Americans has NOTHING to do with quality or entertainment. It has everything to do with production and funding. Quite frankly few people can afford to make massive $100 million films over here, while in America, they throw money away to produce shit. Most of it is filtered out as it goes out from American, but we most often get dross, just like your music and comedy.
As for TV, most of it is English. American comedies that are on terestrial TV are Fraiser, Sex in the City, Friends and little else.
