Quick THW question:

Which would I be best off with? An axe, maul or battlesword? The axe would fit him best but the hunting ability counts more.

They have all the same stats and stuff, so it doesn't matter in that respect.

An axe hits very well against the lower armor groups, but is slow (base 8).

A maul hits better than any THW against plate, and is only base 7. Use a maul against plate. There can be no (rational) argument here.

I have no idea what a battlesword is. If it's a greatsword, it hits best against soft leather and is as slow as an axe. Against the light stuff you're probably best off with a claidhmore though, the weighting is best there.

Thanks for the help, I'll use the maul on heavier armors, otherwise the claymore.

Also, take into consideration that bigger weapons (larger base RTs) are harder to aim. If you just want to stand toe to toe...just go with a battleaxe or claid. I'd go with the claid. If you hide and ambush, I'd go with something smaller...maul, mattock, bastard sword...personally, I use a katana, and it is nice.

If you are ambushing from hiding use a maul or mattock, no question. Unfortunately I have a really nice axe and bastard sword and both do slash crits which annoys me to no end. Crush crits are the way to go for ambushing (which I assume you might do since you are a ranger).

For ambushing I would use an enchanted katana if you can get your hands on one (fast, easy to aim), a battle axe or a mattock (aiming for the head, it shouldn't take a second shot).

Either, but for a ranger you would most likely be ambushing from hiding.
