My empath has no desire to go near a blade, so I'll leave it to the others :)

Hi...

Okay if you want to be a totally cool hunting empath, this is how you need to train. Obviously there are other options out there, this is just my preference. It works for me though.

You can IM me if you want more info any time. :)

I have absolutely no problem with fighting empaths. Heck, I train Nilandia to be a good fighter, even though she chooses not to. The problem I have is when people call us puffs. One of the few things that makes me turn homicidal.

Ahh, you're not gonna swing a 5 second claid with an empath at level 0. :)

I can't even do that with a giantman warrior, Kaah.

Why not? It's a lot easier to get an elf to swing a claid in 5 seconds than it is for a giant.

If you can get a level 0 elven empath to swing a 5 second claid then more power to you, Jonty. I'd like to meet them. :)

Thats pretty sweet. I can't explain why I'm thinking it was STR/DEX based for Claids. That particular empath wouldn't make a very good healer, though. Guess people can't have it all. :)

Jonty
02-11-2006, 09:30 AM
I don’t know what it would make a good of. I just threw the stats there to get it to swing fast. But I imagine with some stat tweaking and proper training, it’d have no problem healing. Not that you need to swing at claidh at 5 seconds right off the bat at level zero, anyway.

I have a giant THW using empathy, who can swing a claid in 6 seconds(if he was an elf he’d probably be doing 5). He heals just fine… could heal scars faster if he trained in Transformation, but I don’t really care about that.

Seems kinda like a waste to me for an Empath to be swinging a claid. They can only 1x in it and its not like an Empath can naturally cast something like Haste to make it worth their while. Better off to boost their defense with a shield and concentrate on spell-combat. At least thats my opinion. :)

I tried OHWs and shield when GS4 started. It sucked so much without ambush; I couldn't stand it.

Swing a lance, win awards!

Ebondale
02-11-2006, 08:27 PM
In GS3 my Empath was OHB//Shield (1x in each). Converting my character to GS4 she ended up with a runestaff which was the grand suckage. My DS dropped by about 130 in Stance D. Granted I had been used to using a Monir hafted golvern morning star and a laje banded tower shield, but that was still a hefty drop.

When FIXSKILLS comes around this time I'm probably going to go Brawling//Shield to get that DS back up. I think it was a bunch of crap that I was getting hit by snakes and whatnot while running from the Landing to Vaalor while buffed. O_o

More to the issue at hand: I really advise against using a claidhmore as an empath. Since you can only 1x in it and a claid naturally has a -10 to AS or -10 to AvD and it is (extremely) expensive to get a claidhmore of any decent enchantment you're going to be hurting.

AnticorRifling
02-11-2006, 08:38 PM
You don't need a high AS to kill with a claid. Just connect and let the weighted goodness do the rest. That being said my empath was brawl/shield and had zero issues.

Ebondale
02-11-2006, 09:02 PM
I'd think that 1xing THW and having low CMAN would make connecting with your target an issue. :)

I used to have issues with hitting equal level mobs when I used like a 6x morning star. It could only get worse when you're swinging a 0x claid with a -10 penalty from the weapon base.

AnticorRifling
02-11-2006, 09:04 PM
I disagree. Given that as a mage I was 1x CM and 1x weapon, same as an empath can. I had zero problems. Why couldn't the empath knock the creature over first with unbalance, boneshatter, etc. Just like swinging a weapon with a wizard it's about knocking them over then crushing their face.

Ebondale
02-11-2006, 09:12 PM
Unbalance helps a lot. Being able to 1x in claids won't give you an enormous DS, though. If you get unlucky and get resisted a lot when you're casting unbalance then you're gonna get hammered. :)

AnticorRifling
02-11-2006, 10:48 PM
Which is the fun of it. Nothing makes hunting more tedious/boring than knowing you're going to live/not get hurt every jaunt out into the wilde. I know alot of folks strive for it but I always just wanted survivability. If that meant dragging myself back to town with 1 leg, 3 fingers, and an eye missing great.

Ebondale
02-11-2006, 10:52 PM
Ah, but the beauty of being an empath. You wouldn't need to drag yourself back to town wounded at all. ;)

Here's my empath training to use 1110. Quite effective. 21 trains with signs, 211, 215, and 1109

You focus your thoughts while chanting the mystical phrase for Empathic Assault...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at a rotting woodsman.
You hurl a radiant ball of energy at a rotting woodsman!
AS: +228 vs DS: +69 with AvD: +55 + d100 roll: +21 = +235
... and hit for 145 points of damage!
The rotting woodsman is sliced open neatly by brilliant beam of plasma!
The rotting woodsman shudders slightly then ceases her so called life.
The rotting woodsman lacks the necessary manifest essence required to infuse an empathic presence.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

Okay I need a good training plan.
I would like to 1106 people to death if it’s doable but I don't know
I don’t mind using a shield and would like to Swing a weapon any opinions?

If I 2x harness when do you think I can 1106 as a main source or killing when hunting?

Czeska
03-07-2006, 12:09 PM
My personal opinions...

1. Why do you need a weapon if your 1106 is going to be that good.
2. Get manip. ranks.

Kaah
03-07-2006, 12:19 PM
Just as a secondary choice for hunting... I don’t need it and I don't mind healing... Is the rune staff route doable for empaths or should I do shield braw? And could I do shield braw now and use a weapon could I hunt that way for a while or what? Because I could just sit, and heal, but IM in VC and there are a lot of healers there. I like to hunt then go back and heal while I rest and I need some way to hunt atm. 1106 doesn't work to well at train 7.

Flurbins
03-07-2006, 04:23 PM
1106 works fine at around level 13-15, provided you are 2x HP, master of COL, and all you want to be able to do with your character is cast bone shatter. Otherwise you'll have to wait until around level 30 to use it for a full hunt if you do the normal empath training. And yeah, runestaff will take you to at least 70.

So, this is my empath so far, I've come 0-22 with it (not fixskilled) and it's worked decently even solo. Find a wizard to give you a bit of strength and guards, and you'll rock the face off everything. Keep in mind, I grew up in Ta'Vaalor, and then this empath moved across the lake to the Plains. The only time I have trouble is when I run out of mana, but I don't use it much at all. Some notes: my empath doesn't heal at all (though mechanically, he can), for RP reasons, and, for RP reasons, he's a human, so he's didn't swing that fast as a young man. I'll post some screen shots at the end.

Some people argue the use of CMAN as an empath, but I like it. You're only gonna ever master one or two skills ever, so choose wisely, cause they will be your success factor. Personally, I go with feint. Currently have 3 ranks. I keep spell aiming up so I can also use 111 (which is the only combat spell I ever use, so I forgot about all lores because I never use Bone Shatter or whatever). Keep in mind, though, I haven't used this empath since 2004, since I left for Africa, so the theory behind not using those spells may be a bit out of date by now.

Chieftains and shamans are like level, which means it takes me a few swings to get through them. Everything else in the plains I annhilate, in fact, I usually uphunt a bit more, however, the problem is I'm on dialup, from Africa, and you need a bit more luck and timing to uphunt like this.
