1120 Sympathy [Sympathy]

Duration: Immediate

Type : Attack

Empaths are the masters of emotion. This mastery is not only limited to their own feelings, but can extend to others too. With the utmost dedication, a skilled Empath is able to project their thoughts outward causing those present to be overwhelmed with sympathy. Creatures that are under these effects will fight each other instead of the Empath or their group. Players will not involuntarily attack each other, like creatures, but they will not be able to perform hostile actions toward the Empath or their group.

The base limit of targets is six. Training in Mental Mana Control and Spiritual Mana Control increases the number of possible targets at the rate of ((MMC + SMC) / 10).

The Undead do not possess the feelings to invoke sympathy, but with advanced training in Mental Lore, Telepathy, an Empath is able to resurface old memories to stimulate sympathy. A minimum of Mental Lore, Telepathy ranks equal to half the undead creature's level are required to have any chance to affect an undead creature. If the Empath's Mental Lore, Telepathy ranks are equal or greater than the undead creature's level, success will be automatic, subject to the normal warding roll.

Ninety percent of the game is half mental.

I just played around with it in rats a bit, and it looks pretty neat. Small duration time though. Just to show what it looks like:

You focus your thoughts while chanting the mystical phrase for Sympathy...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at a giant rat.
Closing your eyes and expanding your mind outward, you attempt to instill a sense of sympathy into those within the area...
CS: +215 - TD: +3 + CvA: +25 + d100: +84 == +321
Warding failed!
A giant rat's eyes begin to glow violet.
CS: +215 - TD: +3 + CvA: +25 + d100: +18 == +255
Warding failed!
A giant rat's eyes begin to glow violet.
You open your eyes, feeling less focused.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
>
A giant rat tries to bite a giant rat!
AS: +34 vs DS: -6 with AvD: +39 + d100 roll: +76 = +155
... and hits for 29 points of damage!
Bones in left arm crack.
The giant rat collapses to the ground, emits a final squeal, and dies.
The eyes of a rat momentarily return to normal before going lifeless.
>
A giant rat's eyes cease to glow.

I am curious if because of your spell, if critter A kills critter B, do you get exp because of it.

Also, on the officals, it is considered an attack spell, and there are charges that will be brought against you, if you cast it in town.

It says casting it at players will only provide a calming effect towards the empath and the empath's group.

The question is, if you cast it at a critter (which wanders in to town), will the critter instead attack other players (like a reverse Song of Rage, or something), or only other critters? If the former, then your question about charges is valid.

Sorc/empath team - re-animate a war griffin, bring it into town, Sympathize it, mass havock.

Oh, if only they'd let me be a GM - that would be like, #2 on my list of things to do, second only to making a uber-blade-of-ultimate-doom which kills anyone who touches it, and putting it in a kobold box.
