I'm looking to attend a conference in New York by the end of March.

Trouble is, I have never been.

Looking at arriving on the 24th, coming back on the 26th.

So, with that in mind,

The location is going to be on E. 59th Street between Park and Lexington Ave.

I have no idea where that is.

I want to find a hotel that is close enough to the location (as well as under 175$/night without being completely shitty). I also want to be in a good spot to make the early morning departure on Sunday (arrive/depart @ Laguardia).

Any help is appreciated, please.

Looks like I'll be staying in the theatre district. Anyone able to give me an idea what that's like?

59th between Park and Lex is very ritzy, so I doubt you'll be able to find a cheap hotel near there.

But, it sounds like you found one in the theater district. That's a good place, as you'll be right near Times Square and all the fun that comes with it. Generally pretty safe, too, as there's a very high police presence there cause of all the tourists.

Traffic there is a bitch and a half, though, so if you're leaving for somewhere, leave early. A 5 minute drive can easily turn into a 45 minute drive if you go through there at rush hour. Take the subway if you can. I know there's a major subway hub on 59th and Lex, but I can't recall which lines stop there.

As for restaraunts, it's been about four years since I lived in NYC, and Times Square is like a revolving door of businesses. New ones open and old ones go out of business so often that it's rarely ever the same.

I didn't ask about restaurants, but it's kinda funny, cause that's a usual question people ask when travelling somewhere.

I'll go explore for myself. Looks like I'll have most of Friday, Saturday evening to hang out. I'm meeting some business contacts there, so I bet they'll be able to show me around a bit, or make some cool reccomendations.
