Hey for those of us who don't read fantasy or Sci-Fi books, and rather than stomping on their thread, I figured it'd be easier to start a new thread where we can discuss book recommendations.

That and I'm bored and looking for some new books to pick up.

I read the kite runner, it was pretty good even though it was predictable after a certain point.

Is empire falls the novel the HBO series was based on?

Yep. I never saw the series, but my mom claimed she liked the book much much better.

Actually, I have liked all three of the Richard Russo books I have read. They arent life changing, but they are entertaining, and easy to read.

Edited to add: I Know This Much Is True is probably my all time favorite. Dont get put off by the fact that his other book (Shes come undone) is a so-called chick-book.

Oh! The Poisonwood Bible. It has been forever since Ive read it. I was a little disappointed in the ending, but for the most part, it was very good.

Read Richard Bach. Some of his books:

Jonathan Livingstone Seagull
The Bridge Across Forever

Also, if this is your speed, the Destroyer books by Sapir and Murphy. Cause Remo Williams is fun and Chiun would kick Chuck Norris' ass.

Angels & Demons

The DaVinci Code

Both superb books with quick turns and suspense from the first page by Dan Brown.

I liked angels and demons more than i liked the davinci code but thats because I've been everywhere in angels and demons before i read the book so it was much more vivid. I also liked deception point by Dan Brown while I pretty much hated Digital Fortress. The only thing is once you read all 4 you kinda realize they're all pretty much exactly the same atleast in formula.

I've been reading a series of books on the first North Americans. The books are written by a married couple who are archaeologists. The first book is People of the Wolf by W. Michael Gear and Kathleen O'Neal Gear. There are, currently, 13 books in the series and another is on the way.

I'm starting the fourth in the series and am enjoying them very much. :)

Talk Dirty to Me by Sallie Tisdale

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's a personal and thought-provoking exploration about the subject of sexuality. It's a short book and well worth the read.

I'll second that reccommendation(I liked A&D best), and add my own..

1. Kite Runner (non-fiction)
2. State of Fear (http://www.crichton-official.com/fear/index.html)
