New Domain Name

The Players Corner, upon moving to a new server, will also require a new domain name as the name gsplayers.com is no longer available to us.

I hope to have links still available from gsplayers.com to the new domain name that we'll use in the future.

Based on the choices and some of my own, we'll be up and running on a new server, with a new and far superior forum software, and a new domain name by Thursday.

Thank you all for your patience in this matter and quite frankly, for putting up with some very frustrating and annoying issues these past months. It's been appreciated.

Dang, I was trying so hard to pick something.

Some things that are of interest, people here seem attached to the name containing a reference to Gemstone. Is this a very important aspect of the name? I'm not objecting to it at all, and some of the nice names include it. I was just thinking... should we find a name that is more generic and representative of us as a community of online players, or do many of you still feel that Gemstone is an important part of the name since ultimately it's what connects us all together?

I think GemStone should be in the name, either the full title or "GS." I know not all of us play anymore, but with few exceptions, it's why we originally found our way to the PC in some incarnation.

Gemstone is less the focus of the boards for an increasing number of people. It's gaming more than GS that's the common element. I don't think GS needs to be part of the name.

I believe it should keep Gemstone. People tend to come here for Gemstone information and it's still what brought us here in the first place.

Making it a generic gaming community will bring in people from all types of games. Even though we'll welcome them *coughs*, it just wouldn't be the same as it is now.

A problem with using "PC" in the name: People looking for forums about personal computers will come, and people looking for sites about "politically correct" issues will come. You'll end up with a mess of people taking up bandwidth who were looking for something completely unrelated to this forum.

gsplayers.net is available, it's similar enough to gsplayers.com that people who don't bookmark it won't have any trouble remembering it.

Jazuela has a point worthy of consideration. PC, by itself, might not be the best idea.

I do like the .net idea. GSPlayersCorner.net, or just PlayersCorner.net both sound good. For me, the inclusion of some reference to GemStone in the title pays homage to that bit of magic that ties us all together. :)
