View Full Version : Roa'ters!

I just wanted to share that I hunted roa'ters for the very first time, just a few minutes ago, and it was awesome! Michi's only 20 trains, so she was hunting corpses and a few slithered in...

[Castle Varunar, Outer Ward]
Wooden stairs that must have once lead to the ramparts are now lying in ruins on the ground. Almost intact, perhaps removed by decision rather than assault or catastrophe, the stairs present an odd puzzle. You also see numerous rotted canvas and leather slings filled with fist sized rocks. You also see some orange leggings.
Obvious paths: east, west
>
You feel the ground shake violently and hear something move from deep underneath your feet.
>
You feel a rumble come from beneath your feet.
Dirt and rock explode from the ground beneath you as a roa'ter erupts from underground and crashes onto the surface!
Rocks and dirt pelt you as you are thrown into the air!
You make a stunning maneuver in the air avoiding the majority of the debris and landing on your feet!
>amb roa head
>
You swing an ancient sylvan-crafted waraxe at a roa'ter!
AS: +358 vs DS: +160 with AvD: +32 + d100 roll: +91 = +321
... and hit for 110 points of damage!
Gruesome, slashing blow to the side of the roa'ter's head!
Skull split open! Brain (and life) vanishes in a fine mist.
The roa'ter rolls over and dies.
The guiding force leaves you.
Roundtime: 6 sec.

It was exciting, but scary at the same time. My heart was racing... I've never hunted anything with her like that, so I think I was worried that she might actually die. Have you guys ever had any similar experiences hunting your characters? :)

I was hunting shades when Aone was a level 2 cleric, and a morph popped up out of the ground. It morphed into me, and I swung at it...my heart was pounding and I was all excited. Then it ran away and disappeared.

When I was hunting lesser ice giants or whatever they are, one popped up and turned into me... I thorned her good!

Congrats on the worm hunt, I've never dodged one but Anticor is a 300+ pound wizard heh.

Thanks! It was so fun, I think I want to go back in a few minutes. Michi weighs about 205 pounds, but she has mobility so it's all good.

Heh. One of my girls hated roa'ters so badly that she visibly paled whenever they were even mentioned. If she saw one, she simply froze in place and waited to die. She was fun to play, dammit.

Roa'ters are a thrill Michi, I used to love hunting the occasional one while hunting corpses.. its exciting (which corpses are NOT).

I remember doing the same thing once or twice, Daina. Usually when I hunted there, I had someone with me who was far more experienced than I was thankfully.

Is he heavily encumbered? Wizards should be fairly adapt at dodging them because of their normally high dexterity stat I would think.

I know my wizard was.

I don't get encumbered(takes like 4 boxes in my cloak to slow my swing down 1 second) but my Dex isn't super high either.

20 trains with 358 AS? What the heck are you? :D

No seriously, how did you get it that high? I'm definitely doing something wrong with my rogue then because she's 57 and it's about that much.

I was wondering the same thing. My warrior is doubled in two-handed & combat maneuvers and even with swords, smiting, & striking he swings in the 250's. Hell, Wezas is old and he only swings in the 390's.

You can clearly see she had a "guiding force" ...117. +75 AS

heh...glad to see I wasn't the only one who didn't see that.

But still, even with guiding force, at 20, 283 is massive. Have strength on or some other spell?

Had to have been a mix of strength and signs. I can't think of anything else.

at level 8 or 9, my giantman rogue swung 195 with 3x weapon, it's not hard to get a high AS, learn the formulas

Zanagodly

learn the formulas? Um maximizing AS is obvious. Be a giant, join col, put strength at 100, get AS spells, maximize your weapon and CM, and hunt in a group with a bard etc. Not really much to learn

Ooo fun stuff Michi! You and I should go hunting there. Stun goes there lots with me when I have to do critter reps on corpses and since I am finally good enough at dodging and learned not to hold 'anything' to avoid those burrowing worms, I am pretty good at it! Haven't died in a while now. And yeah, she has a wizard hubby, she has her signs, and she has her own spells. Not difficult to do at all especially with a blue crystal. I can get mine up to almost 500 with help and I'm only 32 trains.

8x waraxe, strength, signs, phoen's strength, the blue crystal and a pure potion.

...I think that's it. I wouldn't have been using the crystal or the pure potion if they were my age, but I was afraid I'd get killed.

Edited to add: She's a Half-Sylvan ranger, so not a giant warrior or anything. :)

Lvl 27, 0x two-hander, signs, bravery and blue crystal = 368 AS.

My Cleric at 17 swings at 231, with no voln signs. With an Eonake Waraxe, he's a pretty nice hunter. Plus he can Smite damn well, too.

Stunseed loves hunting Roa'ters and Corpses. Jolena and Stun go there for her reps, and Stun usually just takes aiming practice. Swinging at 325 normal, it's cake to hunt there.

Bring Michi next time, damnit! :P

The only time I have trouble is when she gets major feared. Yeesh. :o

Whenever Jolena misses her ambush or the sweep, I'm quick to Spike those Corpses. It's tough to decide what times are life-saving or not, since I don't even have 100 mana. And if she misses, I hit my shot about 90% of the time. In swarms, I'll just mstrike it up and let the limbs fly.
